Xiao Huang Building

The iconic building of Huang Alley is the Xiao Huang Building. It is said that the old house where Huang Pu studied when he was young is near Xiao Huang Building. Lin Zexu's elder brother, Liang Zhangju, who served as the governor of Jiangsu, carried out a comprehensive renovation of Huang Pu's old house during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, and built the West Flower Hall Xiao Huang Building, as well as the matching garden house Dongyuan on the east side of the old house. The flower hall is a two-story building, three rooms wide and five pillars deep, with a through-bucket wooden frame, a double-slope roof, pink walls and black tiles, upturned eaves, dragons and phoenixes painted on the beams, and the doors and windows are made of nanmu, and the workmanship is exquisite and the carving is exquisite.
