Most Unique museum in the world

I was a bit hesitant initially, given the tours weren't cheap, the whole balloon thing in the morning was a dud and the museum required 20 euros towards entry. I mean it's not much but what if it sucked. On the contrary, this turned out to be the most interesting thing to do in the very touristy Goreme. By the ways, there is an extra 6 euro fee for the old church. Even as an idea it is so unique, already the fact that there have been people living underground and in the caves for centuries and centuries. Then you get to be in a museum where you explore these churches inside the caves, arts and paints in the rock. A lot of the art or say paintings too were broken and some were destroyed when the great Ottoman empire took over. What would have also been nicer is to have more written descriptions by the things on display. Be prepared for some climbing and stairs. From the parking lot to here was a climb and then inside there are certain areas with steep stairs. Quite informative and very interesting. Carry something to drink. There is a cafe, just in case you are not carrying water or need a snack. Other than that, I didn't see a toilet. #myhiddengems #goreme #museums #100waysoftravel #turkey #summerdestinations #europe

That looks very interesting! Thanks for sharing! I’m actually making a trip to Cappadocia this November, was wondering how many days did you spent there? Also, did you stay in Goreme as well, or would you suggest any of the near by town? Keen to hear about any travel tips you have for Turkey as it will be my first time visiting! Looking forward to!

Göreme Open Air Museum

One of the world's most beautiful towns, Turkey's Göreme town. Göreme is located in eastern Turkey, the westernmost point of the Asian continent, with unique landforms in the Cappadocia region, specifically in the province of Nevşehir in central Anatolia. Around the 14th century BC, the Hittite people lived here by carving caves, and the Hittite kingdom was once the most powerful country in western Asia. Göreme is a small town running north and south. It takes only half an hour to walk back and forth in the bustling area at the center of the town. Various small shops are scattered along the road, selling everything from cushion covers, felt hats, old doorbells, fridge magnets, postcards, to spinning begging bowls of monks. Whatever souvenir you want, you can find it here. The volcanic ash in Greyme has been weathered and eroded by rainwater for millions of years, forming countless strange rock formations that resemble both needle mushrooms and skinny chimneys, known as "fairy chimneys". In these seemingly barren cliffs, there are countless rock-cut churches, cave dwellings, and underground city ruins hidden. /Göreme's open-air museum is located in a valley, condensed with the characteristics and scenery of Cappadocia. It was once a gathering place for Christians after the 9th century. Many Christians took refuge in these caves, leaving murals on the walls and decorating the caves into churches. The walls of the caves still retain the images of characters from the Bible to this day, faintly discernible. /Attention! Introduce the super popular internet-famous carpet store, also the largest one in the town. It's very close to "Meihua Chinese Restaurant". From afar, you can see all kinds of beautiful carpets hanging at their door. It's even more amazing inside the store.

#bucketlistreboot Gorome Open Air Museum This Unesco World Heritage site is an essential stop on in Cappadocia. This is a monastic settlement that housed some 20 monks and sisters rock-cut churches, chapels and monasteries. The paintings on the walls have partially destroyed due to time . Hence we can only imagine how grand it was previously . So I can only refer to the pamphlet or read from the website on what supposed to be on the wall. The Karanlik Church, which has the best preserved , will be the most important part of your visit to the Goreme Open Air Museum. A separate ticket is required for entrance to the Dark Church.
