|Explore ancient architecture and history. Hancheng City God Temple (also known as Huang Temple) is located in the northeast corner of Jincheng. The temple is named after the east-west alley in front of it. The temple is located at the north side of the east end of the alley, originally next to the ancient city wall, and now next to Donghuan Road. According to the elders of Hancheng, the City God Temple in Hancheng is divided into two parts, north and south. The two City Gods are Zhang Shipei and Zhang Tingshu, who were both ministers of the north and south. Zhang Shipei was the Minister of the Ministry of Revenue in Nanjing during the Ming Dynasty, and Zhang Tingshu was the Minister of Justice during the Qing Dynasty. They were loyal to the emperor and loved the people, and they were honored as City Gods after their death, reflecting the respect of the people of Hancheng for their local sages. Hancheng City God Temple is a magnificent ancient architectural complex. The existing buildings are well laid out, with a deep development, well-arranged, and moderately staggered. The glazed tiles are covered, the ridge tiles are exquisite, and the gold and jade are brilliant and dazzling. The City God Temple is a collection of the best of Hancheng's Yuan Dynasty architectural decorations, with high ornamental value. The roof ridge decorations are colorful, gorgeous, and magnificent, with a variety of shapes. Some of the roof decorations are unique, with additional decorations of fairy pavilions, birds and beasts, figures and knights, dragons and phoenixes, and flowers, which are exquisite works of ancient architecture, adding an attractive charm to the buildings.
