Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor

The Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor is the tomb of Xuanyuan Yellow Emperor, recorded in the 'Historical Records' as the tomb of the Yellow Emperor, located in Qiaoshan, north of Huangling County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. The Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor, also known as 'Qiaoling', is the place where emperors and celebrities of all dynasties worshipped the Yellow Emperor. The earliest recorded worship of the Yellow Emperor took place in the third year of Duke Ling of Qin (422 BC), when Duke Ling of Qin 'made Wuyang Shangzhi, dedicated to the worship of the Yellow Emperor'. Since Emperor Wu of Han personally led an army of 180,000 to worship the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor in the first year of Yuanfeng (110 BC), Qiaoshan has always been the place where national grand ceremonies were held by dynasties, preserving various cultural relics from the Han Dynasty to the present. The 'Cypress Planted by the Yellow Emperor' in front of the tomb is over 5,000 years old and is said to have been planted by the Yellow Emperor himself. It is the oldest cypress in the world. In March 1961, the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor was announced by the State Council as the first batch of key national cultural relics protection units, coded as 'Ancient Tombs No. 1'. In 2006, the Qingming Public Worship Ceremony of Xuanyuan Yellow Emperor (Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor Ceremony) was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list. In August 2014, the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor was included in the application for World Cultural Heritage projects.
