The Suspended Great Wall in Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province

The Suspended Great Wall is located within the territory of Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province. It is about 11 kilometers away from Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province, and about 7 kilometers away from Jiayuguan Pass. Because it is built on a ridge of about 45 degrees, it is named for its appearance like hanging in the air. The Suspended Great Wall is the northward extension of Jiayuguan Pass and an important part of the ancient military defense system of Jiayuguan. It was built in the 18th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1539), and it was built with local gravel and loess. Only 750 meters are left. After being repaired in 1987, it consists of a path, a crenel wall, and a pier. A pier was added at the beginning and end, with a total of three piers. The Suspended Great Wall is the last Great Wall when the Great Wall of thousands of miles is injected into Jiayuguan, and it is known as the end of the Great Wall of thousands of miles. The military defense system area of the Suspended Great Wall includes the Suspended Great Wall, the water gate, and the exhibition of ancient weapons. The leisure resort area is the greening area on the north side of the Great Wall and the small square at the entrance of the scenic spot, which provides leisure services such as barbecue, tea drinking, chess and card entertainment, and the sale of tourist souvenirs. The management area mainly refers to the tourist service facilities on the south side of the Great Wall, including the management center, public toilets, squares, parking lots, etc. Climbing up to the highest beacon tower, looking around, the desolation of the desert outside the pass is all in sight, with only a few patches of oasis embellishing it, showing that there is still life here struggling with the harsh natural environment.
