Going back in time- Gulangyu Island

Gulangyu is a small island next to Xiamen. It takes a short ferry ride to get there. The island is small, and the roads are very narrow, therefor there are no cars on the island. One has to explore the island on foot. It has such a rich history and is also recognised as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The island used to be home to many foreign diplomats, and the architecture on the island has a strong European influence. Most of the historic building have been transformed into hotels or museums. The trees on the island are also quite fascinating. There are lots of great Chinese restaurants to eat at, but also Western take out restaurants like MacDonalds. It is easy to find valuable souvenirs, with shops around every scenic corner.
