Guandu Ancient Town in Kunming, Yunnan

Guandu Ancient Town is located in the southeast of Kunming city, on the north shore of Dianchi Lake and downstream of Baoxiang River. It was a major commercial town in the Dianchi Lake area in history, and it is a national AAAA tourist attraction and a famous scenic town with unique landscapes nationwide. It has a history of over a thousand years and is one of the birthplaces of ancient Dian culture. It is also a famous ancient ferry and Buddhist holy land in central Yunnan. Within an area of less than 1.5 square kilometers, there are many landscapes such as 'Five Mountains', 'Six Temples', 'Seven Pavilions', 'Eight Temples', and hundreds of well-preserved 'One Seal Style' residences. It was known as 'Little Yunnan' in ancient times. The main gate (large archway) of Guandu Ancient Town is located 8 kilometers southeast of Kunming, on the north shore of Dianchi Lake and downstream of Baoxiang River, covering an area of 17 square kilometers. Guandu Ancient Town has many cultural relics and rich human landscapes. Within an area of less than 1.5 square kilometers, there are many landscapes from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Guandu Ancient Town is famous for its profound historical culture. Although some historical and cultural relics have been damaged, important historical and cultural heritage has been preserved. The courtyard walls made of snail shells and rammed with sticky clay still stand in the wind and rain. The hundred-year-old earth houses are still preserved, which is rare. As an ancient town with a long history, Guandu was a famous ancient ferry in central Yunnan and one of the famous ancient towns in Kunming. During the Tang and Song dynasties, it was a large market on the east bank of Dianchi Lake. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was set up as a county with Kunming, and in the Ming and Qing dynasties, it became a town with developed commerce and handicrafts. In the past, Guandu was crowded with merchants, with high towers shining, and there were 'Five Mountains', 'Six Temples', 'Seven Pavilions', 'Eight Temples' and many cultural landscapes, and many cultural architectural sites are still preserved. The ancient town of Guandu, with a long history, is located in the southeastern suburbs of Kunming and is one of the famous historical and cultural ancient towns in the Kunming area. Guandu, originally named 'Wodong', was a fishing village on the shore of Dianchi Lake where snail shells piled up like mountains.
