The clever transformation of the wonder of Kyoto by the Sea (Small Sky Bridge).

In addition to the magnificent naturally formed sandbar scenery, Amanohashidate in the north of Kyoto also has an interesting engineering wonder that I particularly noticed this time - the "Small Sky Bridge". This small but magical bridge is located at the southern end of Amanohashidate, spanning the artificial canal connecting Miyazu Bay and Aso Sea. It looks ordinary on the outside, but it has hidden mechanisms. In order to allow ships to enter and exit the inland sea smoothly, this artificial waterway was dug, and the small overpass is a smart design for the coexistence of the bridge and the port. Its most distinctive feature is its “horizontal rotation”: whenever a ship approaches, the bridge deck will open horizontally as a whole to allow the ship to pass, and then slowly rotate back to its original position. Standing on the bridge and watching this scene with my own eyes, it was like a show in the bay, and I was amazed!
