Ethnic Minority Village - Huanggang Dong Village

The specialty of Dong Village, the paddy field fish, is unique. During the spring rice planting season, fish are released into the fields. The fish eat the pests in the rice, and are also fattened up, truly admirable for the wisdom of the working people. However, these paddy field fish can only be eaten during the autumn harvest season. There are also local restaurants in the village for dining at ordinary times. Sour soup beef, free-range chicken hotpot, stir-fried dishes, barbecue, and noodles are all readily available. 🏠 For accommodation, there are not many inns, but there are homestays and hotels. I stayed at the same place in 2019 and this time, because there was no other choice. When there are many tourists, even finding a place to stay can be a problem. This is also a downside of being unspoiled, as commercial facilities are not well-developed. There is no need for any admission ticket here. Parking is also completely free. There is an observation deck on the mountain where you can see the whole view of Dong Village. It's not high, but the scenery is very nice and definitely worth a climb. Go up from the first drum tower next to the road on the east side, and along the way, you will see many small holes blocked by wooden boards in the ground. Those are used by villagers to store sweet potatoes.
