Liyang | A Secluded Island Retreat at Tianmu Lake

Known as the "Pearl of Jiangnan" and "Green Wonderland" in Changzhou, Tianmu Lake at the foothills of Tianmu Mountain has long been a renowned water recreation destination in the Yangtze River Delta. Last week, I chose to unwind at the exclusive island retreat of WEI Tianmu Lake, immersing myself in relaxation by this vast lakeside. The tree-lined avenue leading to the hotel instantly isolates guests from outside noise, marking the beginning of the "secluded" experience. The entrance features a minimalist white wall and podocarpus trees as natural screens, while the lobby's floor-to-ceiling windows frame a landscape pool with glass boats that seamlessly connects to Tianmu Lake. The symmetrical layout of sofas and furnishings in the lobby lounge complements this breathtaking view. The outdoor infinity pool faces the lake, with bridges and pavilions extending over the water, serving both as docks and perfect panoramic viewing platforms. A stroll around the island reveals a courtyard where flowing water empties into a well, creating picturesque scenery. The hotel restaurant maintains consistent quality, with private dining rooms offering lake views that harmoniously blend with the greenery outside. After meals, guests can engage in handicrafts or scripture copying in the adjacent Zen room, enjoy tea or chess in the lobby, watch movies in the starlit cinema, or work out in the gym illuminated by natural water reflections. Lakeside activities are plentiful too - guests can cycle around the lake using hotel bicycles, visit the nearby Bao'en Zen Temple, or chase sunsets along Tianmu Lake's shores. I stayed in a Lake View room featuring adjustable lighting modes and complimentary first-round minibar. The bathroom area boasts double vanities, a Dyson hairdryer, rain shower with premium amenities, and a smart toilet in a separated wet/dry area. The king bed offers pillow options (soft/firm) with decorative cushions, and the TV supports screen mirroring. Evening highlights included enjoying lake breezes on the balcony or soaking in the tub with endless lake vistas - both perfect ways to conclude the day. Until next time.
