Nankou Village in Meizhou, Guangdong, is home to the splendid Huan Yun Building

The Huan Yun Building was founded in 1927, funded by overseas Chinese from the Hakka community. It is a Western European Baroque-style building modeled after a certain dance hall in Singapore. However, due to the outbreak of the war of aggression by Japan, remittances from overseas Chinese were cut off, and imported materials could not be transported, leading to the suspension of the building's construction. The Huan Yun Building features a basic layout of a hall with lateral houses and a Western-style facade. The interior has more halls and fewer rooms, with relatively large spaces such as atriums, courtyards, and halls; the roof is flat; the facade and exterior walls are embellished with Western architectural elements like verandas, gatehouses, arches, and columns. Overall, the Huan Yun Building showcases a rich variety of spatial changes and decorative language, fully reflecting the collision, exchange, and integration of Chinese and Western architectural cultures. It can be said that the new materials, technologies, and styles introduced by the overseas Chinese played a significant role in the design and construction of the Huan Yun Building.
