Bixi Ancient Town

Bixi ➡️ A remote ancient town on the Southern Yunnan Tea Horse Road, hidden deep in the Ailao Mountains, on the essential route from Kunming to Xishuangbanna, without the hustle and bustle, I always make a point to visit when driving by. The deep courtyards of the caravan families, the street market's everyday life, and a bowl of tofu pudding is so comforting. Although the ancient town is small, it retains many old Ming and Qing dynasty residences. The Kui Xing Pavilion with its flying eaves and corners, the wind chimes that move people, the city tower, the God of Wealth Temple, and the Yu family's old house are all worth a visit. As an important post on the Tea Horse Road, Bixi was once a gathering place for merchants, and the valley produced many talents, including the prominent Yu, He, and Huang families. Among them, the three Yu brothers were influential in the first half of the 20th century. From organizing and participating in the Double Ninth Uprising to being a founding figure of the Protect the Country Movement, holding the position of Minister of Finance, founding the Fudian Bank to the 'Great Double Ninth' cigarettes, singer Yu Chengqing is also a fourth-generation descendant of the Bixi Yu family.
