It only takes 40 to 50 minutes to get there from Osaka or Kyoto, making it an easy and fulfilling day trip. Morning: Meet the deer in Nara Park Walking out of the temple is Nara Park, where more than a thousand tame sika deer roam freely in the park. As long as you bring deer senbei, they will come to "pay their respects" and exchange for biscuits. It's super healing! Noon: Lunch and leisure time at Nara Town Old Street Then we headed to the quaint Naramachi, an old street full of Edo style, with many cafes, grocery stores and Japanese confectionery shops converted from machiya. I enjoyed a local Nara set meal in a nostalgic townhouse. It was simple and delicious. Afternoon: Feel the spiritual atmosphere at shrines and temples Arrive at Todaiji Temple, the landmark of Nara. This world heritage site has the world's largest wooden building and huge gods and Buddhas, which are solemn and shocking. In the afternoon, you can take a walk to Kasuga Taisha Shrine, where you can walk among the stone lanterns and mossy old trees. The atmosphere is quiet and sacred. Kofuku-ji Temple is a great place to admire the five-story pagoda and the national treasure Buddha statue, and history fans definitely cannot miss it. Evening: Shopping near the station and tasting Nara-exclusive desserts Before returning, don’t forget to stroll through the shopping streets around Nara Station, pick up some cute deer souvenirs or try the Big Buddha pudding to put a perfect end to this walk in the ancient capital.
