[1-2] Paris is located in the center of the Paris Basin in the north of France, across the banks of the Seine. The coordinates of the city center are 48°52 north latitude and 2°25 east longitude. In the broad sense of Paris, there are small Paris and big Paris. Little Paris refers to the Paris city within the Greater Ring Road, with an area of 105.4 square kilometers and a population of more than 2 million. The Greater Paris includes the upper Seine, Valle de Mar, Seine-Saint-Denis, Evelyn around the city. The provinces, Val d'Oise, Seine-et-Marne and the seven provinces of Essonne form the Paris region, which in ancient times has been called "ile-de-france". With an area of 12,000 square kilometers, it has a population of about 11 million in 2016, accounting for almost one-fifth of the national population.
