Sendai Castle ruins🏯 and the statue of Date Masamune on horseback

Sendai Castle was built by the first feudal lord of Sendai, Date Masamune, and is said to have been completed in 1602. The castle is a natural fortress surrounded by cliffs of the Hirose River and the Tatsunokuchi Valley to the east and south, and steep mountains to the west, and the stone walls were mainly built around the main enclosure. When the castle was first built, the main enclosure and the area now called Higashimaru (Sannomaru) were developed. Later, when the second feudal lord, Tadamune, built Ninomaru, it became the center of feudal government!!
