After the ascension of the Sixth Dalai Lama, the three great monasteries in Lhasa sought to recognize the reincarnated child (who would later become the Seventh Dalai Lama) through divination. However, this child was persecuted by the Mongolian and Shuote Tibetan King Lhazang Khan, so the child was escorted by monks to Songzanlin Monastery for refuge. The child offered milk to the water source and prayed for the water to turn into 'milk sweat' to nourish all beings, and thus the water became known as 'Milk River'. Later, the child was supported by Ta'er Monastery in Qinghai and eventually received recognition and support from Emperor Kangxi, who also conferred the title 'Hongfa Juezhong'. Therefore, the Seventh Dalai Lama continued to support the expansion of Songzanlin Monastery thereafter.
