Ping Yao Gu Cheng aka Ping Yao Ancient City. This ancient city is located in Ping Yao City, Shanxi province. I guess many people herd about this place, about this very famous city and germ of Shanxi Province (not Shaanxi). This is the one of the most well preserved ancient cities in China. Thriving through the centuries in the ancient time, it has survived twenty's century and appears in its unique and charming style in front of our eyes.
I would like to emphasize this is real city, all buildings are really ancient, not the new made after 2000 year. Really, unique place. The city is presented by its ancient streets and everywhere small museum are ready to accept guests. Every building is a museum, ancient hall or rich family yard. There are a lot of special artifacts. Totally, the visiting requires two days to visit every small place. Ticket gives the access to every location. Each place in this city deserved separate introduction.

Pingyao is one of the old ancient city in China which is still very original and it is also one of the UNESCO world heritage site. This ancient city is surrounded by its outstanding city walls which were used by the guards to protect the city from enemies in the past. If you come here, try to find hotel inside the ancient town as it is a really nice area. You can also find many traditional restaurants and shops inside :) #HalloTrip

Yungang Grottoes Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Datong in the Winter.
We stayed in Datong for 1 full day during January 2023. The temperature ranged between-10 and -20 so was pretty chilly and you need lots of layers. There are two main activities/ attractions in Datong, the Yungang Grottoes and The Hanging Temple. the Yungang Grottoes are close to the city about a 20min taxi from the centre and definitely worth a visit. The Hanging Temple is further away and requires a 1hr to 1hr and half taxi. Which our hotel helped organise. but this is definitely worth doing the Temple is just magical.#2023travelwish #datong
Yungang Grottoes
It’s a Buddhist cave-carving complex. All the statues are carved in caves or small grottoes. They are dated 5th and 6th centuries. It’s a UNESCO heritage and it’s amazingly beautiful! Statues really impress. Some of them are big like skyscrapers, some statues are very small, but cover the whole wall in the cave.
The complex is big, you can walk around. There is a part with caves, but the other part of mountains is surrounded by beautiful natural landscape. You can walk in the park, or alone the river.
You will spend at around 4 hours there, so food 🥢🥡 options are available on the territory.
#bucketlistreboot
We visited these caves as well as the Longmen caves. Both are remarkable although Longmen has a greater “wow” factor. Keep in mind if you do go to Datong that it is a coal city and the air is often polluted. #wintergetaway

Yungang grottoes is located near the city of Datong. It is a very common place for tourists who come to visit Datong, as it is easy to reach. Public bus will take around 40 minutes so it is quite convenient. Inside, you will see really massive statues from the history which are just beautiful. There is also a museum inside. #HalloTrip

Mount Wutai Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
When you step into Wutai Mountain, your feelings will be greatly improved. You feel refreshed, cool and cool, itchy your heart, the air is clear, your eyes are cool, the sky is so blue. The blue is thorough and thorough, and it is dotted with the white and white clouds. The heart is bursting with tears. Unconsciously, the tears soaked in the eyes, and the inexplicable excitement is beyond words. Inside and outside the temple, cigarettes are lingering, and there is a mysterious and solemn atmosphere everywhere. A group of people came and went again with piety and confusion. Throughout the Wutai Mountains, the rafts, the gullies, the valleys and rivers, the forests and the mountains, the basins and the mountains are interlaced, the temples and temples are intertwined with each other, the scenery is picturesque, the peculiar peaks and cliffs, the sturdy and ancient pines and cypresses, and the overflowing Yunshan foggy sea. The magnificent temple towers and the larchs strolling through the mountains are built into a splendid world, forming a beautiful place with bright colors, suitable for people to browse and summer.

Jinci Museum Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
🇨🇳 • 《晋祠公园》(周)
This park and its buildings
🇨🇳 • 《晋祠公园》(周)
This park and its buildings is the “Museum of Chinese Constructions” throughout history, from 周 to 清. A Sublime place.
Come to Taiyuan, you can't help but come to Jinci. Jinci is located in the southwest of Taiyuan. It is a big park with beautiful scenery, pavilions and towers. The core area of Jinci is the Jinci Museum. There are three national treasures in the garden of this core area: the Madonna, the Temple, and the Cross Bridge. The temple is a combination of pavilions and temples. It is very unique and has been preserved for thousands of years. You will travel there for this purpose. There is also the oldest Zhou Bai, Tang Yan, who seems to tell the story of time. There is also the music of the Yuan Dynasty, which is vivid and vivid, and also provides a reference for studying the music regulation at that time. This time, I was visiting Jinci in the rain, but it has a charm compared to the rainy days.
The grand hall is home to eight dragons! Even the Forbidden City wouldn't dare to be so bold
It is often said that Shanxi has many ancient buildings, and to see the cultural relics on the ground, one must visit Shanxi, but it is rare to see such a collection of heavyweight ancient buildings all in one place.
Jinci in Taiyuan is one such rare site that concentrates a large number of buildings from various periods. With a high density of ancient buildings, numerous in quantity, high in quality, and diverse in form, it allows you to fully appreciate Chinese ancient architecture in one go, which is truly satisfying.
Moreover, the Jinci scenic area not only has ancient buildings but also various ancient and famous trees, as well as stone carvings, brick carvings, wood carvings, colored sculptures, and murals.
Jinci is particularly suitable for those who are interested in the history and culture of Shanxi but are short on time. If you only have one day to stay in Taiyuan, you can visit the Shanxi Museum in the morning and take a trip to Jinci in the afternoon.
Jinci is the earliest existing royal sacrificial garden in China, the ancestral temple of the state of Jin. The layout of Jinci was influenced by Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. After the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Buddhist temples began to enter Jinci, and Taoist halls were also built by the temple, reaching their peak during the Ming and Qing dynasties, forming a pattern where Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism coexisted in one temple.
The Holy Mother Hall is the main hall of the entire temple, where the wife of King Wu of Zhou during the Western Zhou dynasty, the mother of King Cheng of Zhou and Duke Tang of Shu, and the daughter of Jiang Ziya, Yi Jiang, is worshipped. The grand hall was built in the ninth year of the Taiping Xingguo era of the Northern Song dynasty.
The wooden dragon carvings are the earliest existing coiled dragon columns in China, carved in the second year of Yuan You of the Song dynasty (1087). The eight dragons each embrace a large column, with fierce eyes and claws, and their bodies seem to emerge from the clouds, exuding a sense of vitality.
Taiyuan's traffic lights have their own bicycle symbols
Taiyuan actually has special bicycle traffic lights, and as someone from the south, this is the first time I've seen them.
It's easier to get around than I thought.
🍽 Dining Recommendations:
Laojunying Snack Street: All snacks, the guokui is good, and the mung bean cake is also good, not too sweet.
Xinghuatang: The yellow rice jelly is absolutely amazing, the best in the show; there's something like Buddha Jumps Over the Wall that's also good, I forgot the exact name; Slightly Plum can be ordered, there are several fillings, just choose one you like. There's a stage in the middle of the hall, and you can also see opera performances.
Bingzhou Dapaidang: Taiyuan is also known as Bingzhou, so Bingzhou Dapaidang is Taiyuan Dapaidang. You must try the rock and roll oat noodles, the sweet and sour meatballs are also worth ordering, and I think the chicken shredded cold noodles are better than the stall's Liukou noodles.
Lao Liu Steamed Dumplings·Halal Restaurant: You have to go in the morning, they're gone by noon, you should eat the Jiao Quan, which seems to be also called Ma Ye, it's basically flour mixed with brown sugar and then fried in hot oil. Recommended.
Xiao Wang Breakfast: It seems to be opposite the Normal University, a place to eat Taiyuan breakfast, still have to eat Ma Ye.
Old Taiyuan Restaurant: If you have enough time, you can go there, there are a lot of people, just look and order.
Jin cuisine is mainly too large in portion, if there are many people, you can order a lot.
✅ Must Experience:
Shanxi Museum Shanxi Bronze Museum Jinci Park Jin Merchant Museum
Especially the first two, you can also collect stamps, very proud.
Outside Jinci, a whole street is full of food, 15 yuan a cup of pomegranate juice is okay.
🚉 Travel Tips:
Taiyuan is the same, just scan the code. Buy a bicycle card, and you can ride at will.

Mount Yunqiu Scenic Area Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Mount Yun
Mount Yun Scenic Area is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, boasting abundant natural resources, cultural landscapes, and heritage. It is a rare comprehensive tourist area in southern Shanxi that combines sightseeing, leisure and entertainment, health and wellness retreats, folk experience, and cultural exchange. Real experience: Mount Yun has too many man-made attractions, and it's not advisable for the elderly and children to climb the mountain. The temple on the mountain is not as good as playing at the foot of the mountain. The cave dwelling courtyard accommodations in the scenic area are quite nice, with cozy rooms. The Eight Treasures Restaurant offers tasty dishes at reasonable prices. Initially, I thought the food inside the scenic area would be expensive, so I had lunch at a farmhouse outside, which was not only disappointing in taste but also more expensive. Dinner at the Eight Treasures Restaurant was delightful and reasonably priced. The ticket for the Millennium Ice Cave is expensive, but it's indeed worth a visit. The scenic area's highlight is its excellent service. Special commendation goes to a staff member who seemed to be in charge of the scenic shuttle bus. The shuttle service starts at 8 am, but since we arrived early, the driver started the bus just for the two of us and took us to the cable car station. Sometimes, enjoying a trip is not just about what you see; good service can also make you happy. In conclusion, Mount Yun is worth a visit.
The upcoming Yunqiu Mountain will be the ceiling of domestic travel
Not only does it boast lush greenery and tranquil, quaint villages, but it also features a 'hanging Taoist temple' that has withstood 700 years, truly a fairyland within a fairyland!
💡 Yunqiu Mountain Scenic Area, formerly known as Kunlun Mountain, is the birthplace of Chinese agricultural civilization and the Twenty-Four Solar Terms. It is a sacred place where Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism converge, and is as renowned as Wudang Mountain, often referred to as 'Northern Yunqiu, Southern Wudang.' The area is complete with majestic mountains, perilous peaks, cascading waterfalls, unique rocks, clear springs, ravines, and streams. The scenery is beautiful, the atmosphere is grand, and the Taoist culture is profound, earning it the reputation of 'the most beautiful peak of Gushan' and 'the premier attraction of the Fen River'.
💡 Recommended attractions:
Ta'erpo Ancient Village: Over 2500 years of history, a living fossil of residential architecture.
Ice Cave Cluster: One of the three great ice cave wonders of the world, a dreamy fairyland.
Fairy Valley: Dense vegetation, streams and waterfalls, a fairy-tale wonderland.
Holy Mother Valley/Hulu Pond: Legends of the Eight Immortals, mysterious and unpredictable.
Jade Emperor Summit: Climb high for a distant view, breathtaking scenery.
Yulian Cave: A Taoist temple on the cliff, a natural marvel.
🍜 Food recommendations: Sauce beef, sliced beef noodles, stuffed intestine powder, oil tea, Xiangning oil cake, etc.
🏠 Accommodation recommendation: Kangjiaping Ancient Village Homestay, full of fairy charm.
🚗 Transportation guide: Fly/train to Linfen, then take a bus/taxi to the scenic area; if driving, navigate to Yunqiu Mountain Scenic Area.
👉 Key point: Yunqiu Mountain is not only a visual feast but also a spiritual purification. A 5A-level scenic spot, it integrates natural beauty, cultural heritage, folk customs, and the charm of ancient villages. Save it now and plan your trip!
Set off with mom! Seize the day and head for the mountains and seas
💗Mother's Day is coming up, are you still worried about what gift to give? Why not take your mom on an impromptu trip!
Destination recommendation: Yunqiu Mountain Scenic Area, Xiangning County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province
🚗 It's accessible by self-driving from the surrounding areas of Taiyuan, Linfen, and Yuncheng. For high-speed rail 🚄, get off at Houma West Station and then take a taxi.
🎉Recommended reasons:
✅ The scenery of Yunqiu Mountain is beautiful in early summer, with clear mountains and waters, and a view at every step
✅ It meets mom's desire to take photos of flowers, with wisteria waterfalls at the tourist center and ice cave clusters, the flower bridge and trees in Shenxianyu, every place is super photogenic!
✅ The front mountain route is easy and not tiring, and one day is just enough for a visit
👣Route planning:
Zhonghe Square--Take the shuttle bus directly to Shenxianyu Transfer Station in the direction of the front mountain--Shenxianyu--Thousand-year-old ancient village Ta'erpo--After visiting the ancient village, it is recommended to take a one-way electric cart to the ice cave cluster (ticket price is only $5 per person)--Yunqiu Mountain Ice Cave Cluster--After visiting the ice cave cluster, return the same way.
Warm tips:
✅ Be sure to protect yourself from the sun, as the UV rays on the mountain are quite strong, it's best to bring a hat and 🕶️ sunglasses, not only for sun protection but also as photo props
✅ Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as there are quite a few steps in Shenxianyu.
✅ It is recommended to wear light-colored clothes, which are more photogenic😍
A day trip to Yunqiu Mountain in Linfen, my legs are sore
I hit the highway at 9 p.m. on April 30th, drove for four hours to reach the resort hotel at the foot of Yunqiu Mountain, and started climbing the mountain around 10 a.m. the next morning! As usual, we checked in outside the scenic area, a 5A-level tourist attraction, with an ancient costume parade right at the entrance, and there are performance activities in the big square at night. Not far away, you can take a cable car up the mountain. There are two sightseeing routes, from the front mountain to the back mountain. We chose to go from the back mountain to the front mountain. There are also two cable car lines; we took the shorter one. We climbed to the Ancestor's Peak first, then to the Jade Emperor's Peak. As the saying goes, it's easy to go up the mountain but hard to come down. My legs, calves, and knees hurt and trembled on the way down! My child really had a tough time, taking 24,000 steps in total but persevered throughout the journey. The perennial ice cave was also nice, enjoying the coolness in the early summer. We didn't want to cross the glass walkway, but it was a shortcut. Otherwise, we would have to walk an additional 162 kilometers, and we were too tired to go any further! The Ta'er ancient village at the bottom was really nice; my child liked it a lot. There was wine brewing, wedding folk performances, tofu grinding, and chili sauce making. It was a perfect day!
