Built between 1794 and 1796 under King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty, it was designed to honor his father and to establish Suwon as a strategic and economic hub. The fortress showcases advanced military architecture and engineering techniques of its time, including the use of the ‘Geojunggi’ crane system developed by Jeong Yak-Yong.
