Suzhou No. 53 Garden: Yan Family Garden During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Yan Family Garden was originally the residence of Shen Deqian, the compiler of Ancient Poetry Sources. It was purchased by the poet Qian Duanxi in the eighth year of the reign of Emperor Daoguang (1828). Qian stacked stones to dig ponds, built pavilions and towers, and was very popular for writing poems and poems at that time. Gong Zizhen said of this garden: The structure is extremely natural, the meaning is not created by human will, and the rocks are like beauties... In the 28th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, Yan Guoxin, the richest man in Mudu, bought it and renovated it, then renamed it Xian Garden, commonly known as Yan's Garden. The halls of Xian Garden are grand, exquisite and dignified. The garden architecture is exquisite, lively, colorful, with pavilions, towers, corridors and terraces arranged in an orderly manner and full of variety.
