Shinagawa, Tokyo. Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido Highway: Shinagawa-shuku. Stroll along Shinagawa Bridge, which separates Kita-Shinagawa-shuku and Minami-Shinagawa-shuku.

Meguro River flows through Shinagawa-juku, the first post station on the Tokaido Fifty-three Stations. The bridge (Meguro River) that separates the north side (Kitashinagawa-juku) and the south side (Minamishinagawa-juku) of Shinagawa-juku used to be Shinagawa Bridge. The name of the bridge is different from what it is today, and it was once called Sakai-bashi, Yukiai-bashi, or Naka-bashi. The bridge's material has changed from a wooden bridge to a stone bridge to a concrete bridge, and now to a steel bridge, according to a sign on Shinagawa Bridge entitled "The Past and Present." The current residential road is of ordinary construction, but the sidewalk has a stone road and rest facilities that recall the past. It was marked "Shinagawa-ku Waterside Senbonzakura," so I'm sure the beautiful cherry blossoms will be in full bloom along Meguro River in the spring cherry blossom season! It's a place I'd like to explore again in the spring.
