National Cultural Heritage: Mao Dun’s Former Residence in Wuzhen.

Mao Dun's former residence is located at No. 17 Guanqian Street, Wuzhen, Tongxiang City, Zhejiang Province. Mao Dun was born here in July of the 22nd year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1896). Mao Dun's former residence is divided into two parts, front and back, with a total area of ​​549.17 square meters. Qiandai is an old-style building with four bays facing north and south. It was bought by Mao Dun's great-grandfather in two installments when he was doing business in Hankou. It has a total of 16 rooms upstairs and downstairs, with a small patio in the middle and a construction area of ​​444.25 square meters. Houdai consists of three bungalows with a construction area of ​​104.92 square meters. In the early 1930s, Mao Dun personally designed the sketch and used the royalties from his Midnight novel to rebuild it into a study with a slight Japanese style. On January 13, 1988, Mao Dun's former residence was announced as the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
