Exploring the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (Region) The medieval bridge spanning the Matarraña River separates the historic center of Valderrobres from its newer section. Construction began in the late 14th century at the request of Zaragoza Archbishop García Fernández de Heredia to King Juan I of Aragon. The bridge features three arches with wedge-shaped cutwaters designed to protect it from powerful floods and debris in the river. Around the 16th century, the town hall was built at one end, connecting to the Spanish Square and serving as the starting point for the climb to the castle. At the end of the bridge, next to the town hall, stands the gate dedicated to Saint Roch, the patron saint of Valderrobres.
