8000 Terracotta Warriors buried in Tomb

8000 life-size soldiers were buried in the tomb of Qing Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. Today, I visited the famous Terracotta Army, also considered as one of the greatest archeological discoveries in the world. When the army was discovered by a local farmer in 1974, most of the clay figurines were in pieces. It has taken archeologists decades of work to piece together what once would have been models of Qing Shi Huang's best soldiers. Still, the portion containing the emperors remains have not yet been unexcavated. It was mind blowing to see such a grand scale of funerary art. Although there were thousands of figurines, each warrior had unique characteristics-facial features, hairstyle, clothing, and pose. To this day, The Terracotta Army remains an incredibly fascinating window into ancient life in China.
