Autumn Road Trip in Hulunbuir | Journey to the Mangui Forest, a gentle retreat hidden in the Greater Khingan Mountains

🚗 Autumn in Hulunbuir holds the most healing scenery in the north. Driving north deep into the heart of the Greater Khingan Mountains to the quiet, healing town of Mangui, you can leave behind the crowded tourist spots and immerse yourself in the late autumn forest. With vast mountains and clear skies, every mile of the journey is worth it. 🌲 Step into Yikesama National Forest Park and instantly fall into a golden autumn forest. Layers of birch and larch trees cover the mountains in shades of yellow and green. As the autumn breeze blows, leaves rustle to the ground. The forest air is fresh and crisp, the streams are clear and gentle, and everywhere you look is pristine natural beauty. Stroll along the forest paths, where every snapshot becomes a clean, healing autumn masterpiece, allowing you to enjoy the unique tranquility and vastness of the Greater Khingan Mountains. 🍂 After exploring the forest, climb to the top of Ningcui Mountain Park for a panoramic view of Mangui. The late autumn forest has shed its green, now painted in gentle, gilded gold. The endless forest embraces the entire town, with scattered houses and vast wilderness, offering an incredibly expansive view. With a cool evening breeze and quiet mountain scenery, standing at the summit watching the autumn light and shadows sweep across the peaks heals all the fatigue from the road trip. 🏨 On a long road trip, a stable place to stay is paramount. Staying at the Mangui Yikesama Hotel this time was a true gem for our Hulunbuir northern route road trip. The hotel is perfectly located near 2 major attractions, making it very convenient for sightseeing and returning, with a location and suitability that are just right. 🌟 The business suite I stayed in offered an excellent experience. The room was spacious and airy with a simple, orderly layout. The living room and bedroom were clearly separated, making the space feel open. The room was clean, tidy, and well-lit, with comfortable, stylish furnishings. Whether you need to rest and relax during your trip or handle a few simple tasks, it is perfectly suitable, and the quality of the stay far exceeds that of other hotels of the same grade in the town. ✨ The hotel's details are perfectly tailored to the needs of road travelers. The entire room was clean and odorless, the bedding was soft, skin-friendly, and warm, and the 24-hour hot water was stable and plentiful, which was great for dispelling the chill of the late autumn forest. The facilities are complete, including a large free parking lot, making parking worry-free and safe. The service was thoughtful and meticulous, and the overall atmosphere was quiet, comfortable, and full of ambiance. 🌙 Travel far to the mountains and seas, and make the most of the autumn light. Autumn in Hulunbuir is the romance of a gilded forest and the gentle tranquility of a small town. In Mangui, take in the stunning autumn colors of the Greater Khingan Mountains and rest your travel-weary body in a comfortable, heartwarming hotel. Erguna cabin is legendary | Take in the entire grassland valley view from your bed — traveler post in Genhe

Erguna cabin is legendary | Take in the entire grassland valley view from your bed

If you know, you know😭 I stayed in a hillside cabin in Erguna that looks like it’s straight out of an anime!! This is probably the most romantic way to experience autumn in Hulunbuir🍂 The A-frame cabin tucked away on the hillside is absolutely stunning! The massive slanted floor-to-ceiling windows frame the entire valley and grassland like a painting🎞️ Open the door to layers of golden larch trees, with the winding Genhe Wetland spreading out at your feet and the distant grasslands stretching to the horizon. At sunset, the landscape is bathed in a honey-gold glow, and you can occasionally spot horses grazing leisurely on the hillside—the vibe is truly top-tier! The room features a warm, vintage wooden aesthetic✨ With soft lighting, cozy bedding, and carpets and small decor items that evoke a nomadic feel. My favorite spot is the leisure corner by the window; I love brewing a cup of hot tea and just zoning out while watching the clouds drift slowly through the valley, with endless autumn colors in sight every time I look up. Waking up to sunlight streaming through the glass in the morning and lying in bed at night to watch the starry sky is pure healing! You can enjoy the view by walking down the colorful stairs, and every angle is incredibly photogenic📸 No need to deal with crowds; just enjoy a quiet moment with the autumn of the Greater Khingan Mountains. It’s very close to the wetland, so you can go out exploring during the day and return to the cabin when you’re tired to feel the breeze from the wild and listen to the rustling leaves—I really didn't want to leave at that moment. It’s perfect for couples, best friends, or anyone who loves slow travel. If you come to Hulunbuir, you must save one night for this place🌄 💡Tips ▪️The light is best at sunset between 6:30 PM–7:30 PM; the hillside viewing platform is perfect for photos ▪️The temperature difference between day and night in the mountains is huge! Be sure to bring a thick jacket ▪️Morning mist is common; wake up early to see the ethereal, misty wetland

Bailu Island Autumn Guide | Head to the Greater Khingan Mountains for a fairytale autumn by the Jiliu River — traveler post in Genhe

Bailu Island Autumn Guide | Head to the Greater Khingan Mountains for a fairytale autumn by the Jiliu River

If you're visiting the Greater Khingan Mountains in autumn, don't miss Bailu Island! The Jiliu River winds into a beautiful S-shaped bend here, and the island is wrapped in a colorful forest. The mountains are layered with birch and Dahurian larch, woven with golden and orange-red hues. It's quiet, uncrowded, and absolutely perfect for an autumn road trip. Essentials Clothing: The temperature difference in the forest area is huge in autumn. It's cool during the day but bone-chillingly cold in the early morning and evening. Be sure to pack a windbreaker, a light down jacket, and bring a hat and gloves. The forest floor is covered in fallen leaves, so wear non-slip sneakers to avoid slipping. Food: There are very few dining options around the scenic area. It's recommended to bring your own simple meals, hot water, and snacks. There are no restaurants near the viewing platform, so bring a picnic mat if you want to enjoy the atmosphere. Accommodation: Most tourists choose to visit on a day trip. If you want to take your time and soak in the autumn scenery, you can stay in Moerdaoga Town, which has a wide range of accommodation options. Transportation: A road trip is recommended. Navigate to Bailu Island and take the Genbai Highway. The entire route is lined with colorful forests, and there are many temporary parking spots along the way where you can stop to take photos at any time. Public transportation is inconvenient, so taking a bus alone is not recommended. Tickets Bailu Island is part of the Moerdaoga National Forest Park. You need to purchase a forest park ticket to enter. It is recommended to check the ticket price in advance. During peak season, you can book online to save time queuing on-site. Itinerary Drive along the Genbai Highway, stopping to take photos of the birch forests along the way → Enter Moerdaoga Forest Park → Drive to the Bailu Island parking lot → Walk up the viewing boardwalk to overlook the river bend from above → Stroll along the forest trails to view the colorful forests up close → Wait for the sunset to watch the sunlight spill over the river and trees, then head back. The whole trip takes about 3 hours. Must-see Attractions ✅ Bailu Island Viewing Platform: The core photo spot! From the top, you can see the S-shaped bend of the Jiliu River, with the island resting quietly in the center of the water, surrounded by a vast expanse of colorful forests. The view is wide and perfect for photos. ✅ Colorful Forests along the Genbai Highway: The scenery on the road is just as good as the destination. The vast birch forests shine in the sunlight, making it easy to snap cinematic road trip photos. ✅ Riverside Boardwalk: Stroll along the riverbank to see the reflection of the colorful forests in the clear water. If you're lucky, you might see birds skimming across the water. Tips 1. The best time to see autumn colors is from mid-September to the end of September, when the colors are most vibrant. By the National Day holiday, the leaves will have started to fall. 2. The weather in the forest area is changeable, so carry rain gear with you. Also, bring mosquito repellent, as there are still bugs in the forest. 3. Drone aerial photography of the S-shaped river bend is stunning, but be sure to follow the forest area's flight regulations. 4. Please protect the pristine environment. Take all your trash with you and do not trample on the vegetation. Autumn on Bailu Island is free from crowded crowds, offering only mountains, forests, rivers, and a sky full of autumn colors. Standing on the viewing platform, feeling the autumn breeze, and taking in the vibrant scenery washes away all the fatigue of city life. This autumn road trip is one you won't soon forget.

It is windy and dry in the forest, so take moisturizing precautions when traveling. Mobile signal is weak on some niche routes, so plan your route in advance. Open flames are strictly prohibited in the forest area. Please follow fire safety regulations and travel responsibly. Shedding the hustle and bustle of summer, autumn in Hulunbuir is gentle and vast. Golden forests, winding rivers, and quiet towns—with fewer people and peaceful scenery, this healing autumn landscape is absolutely worth the trip.

Beautiful for only 20 days a year, this is the true northernmost autumn in China! — traveler post in Genhe

Beautiful for only 20 days a year, this is the true northernmost autumn in China!

🍂Greater Khingan Mountains 2-Day 1-Night Trip | Venture into the Golden Forest of the North | The Ultimate Autumn Guide 🔥The Greater Khingan Mountains from your textbooks reach their peak beauty in autumn! Birch forests, golden larches, reindeer, and border rivers—the mountains are painted in vibrant colors. This limited autumn scenery lasts only about 20 days a year; miss it, and you'll have to wait another whole year. ⚠️Important autumn reminders: The temperature difference between day and night in the forest area is huge! It's 15–20°C during the day and 0–5°C at night. Be sure to bring a lightweight down jacket/windbreaker, long pants, and a scarf. Some sections of the forest area have no cell signal, so download offline maps in advance. Portions are huge, so don't over-order. Open flames are strictly prohibited in the mountains, and do not pick wild mushrooms yourself. 🎫Ticket Tips Many roadside forest viewpoints are free. The Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe, Mo'erdaoga Forest Park, and Jiuqu Shibawan (Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns) require tickets. Feeding the reindeer with moss requires a separate fee. The Greater Khingan Mountains cover a vast area, and attractions are far apart. Most of the beauty is on the road, so you don't need to visit every single spot. 🚗Transportation ✅Flight | Flying into Hailar or Mohe Gulian Airport is the most convenient starting point for exploring the Greater Khingan Mountains. ✅Train | Hailar Station and Mohe Station are suitable for budget-friendly travel. ✅Local transport | Chartering a car or carpooling is preferred! Self-driving is not recommended for beginners. The forest area covers long distances, with villages tens or hundreds of kilometers apart, and public transport is very limited. Chartering a car costs about 600–900 yuan per day; agree on the price in advance. 📅Complete 2-Day 1-Night Itinerary | Eat | Stay | Travel Day 1: Arrival → Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe → Birch Forest → Sunset on the forest road 🚘Route Arrive in Genhe/Mohe at noon and check in. In the afternoon, head to the Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe. Walk into the Ewenki reindeer tribe, buy a basket of moss to feed the reindeer, and take stunning forest-style photos among the golden forest cabins. Afterward, visit the vast birch forest where sunlight streams through the trunks, creating a perfect atmosphere. Drive slowly along the forest road and pull over anytime to take photos. In the evening, wait for the sunset over the forest and watch the sun paint the entire mountain range in golden red. 🍚Food & Drink ▪️Lunch: Local restaurant in Genhe. Try the stewed chicken with hazel mushrooms, stir-fried wild mountain vegetables with meat, and Northeast-style rice wraps. It costs about 70–90 yuan per person. Northeast portions are large, so order less to avoid waste. ▪️Supplies: There are few convenience stores in the forest area, so bring your own thermos, chocolate, and snacks. ▪️Dinner: A must-try is the iron pot stewed goose with corn flatbread. It's steaming hot and perfect for warding off the evening chill. Pair it with blueberry juice for a full local experience. 🏨Accommodation Options 🔸Best value👉Genhe city hotels Well-equipped with many choices, costing 220–450 yuan. Dining and shopping are convenient, and it's a moderate drive to various spots for the next day. Facilities are complete for a comfortable sleep. 🔸Best experience👉Mukeleng wooden cabin homestays Experience the forest's unique wooden cabins, some with heated brick beds (kang), priced at 300–600 yuan. Remote homestays have fewer amenities and can be very cold at night, so be sure to check reviews before booking. Book in advance during peak season. Day 2: Mo'erdaoga Forest Park → Forest train, return in the afternoon 🚘Route Depart in the morning for Mo'erdaoga National Forest Park. As the saying goes, "Xishuangbanna in the south, Mo'erdaoga in the north." Ride the forest train through thousands of acres of golden forest, immersing yourself as you travel between the larches and birch trees. You can stroll along the forest boardwalks to breathe in the fresh air and climb the Longyan Mountain observation deck for a bird's-eye view of the entire Greater Khingan Mountains forest. After finishing your visit, take a quick look around the area and head back in the afternoon. 🍚Food & Drink ▪️Breakfast: Northeast-style breakfast, such as sticky bean buns, millet porridge, and pickles. ▪️Lunch: Have some farmhouse-style food before heading back, like pork stewed with vermicelli. You can buy dried blueberries and hazel mushrooms as souvenirs, but try to buy them at supermarkets in the city, as prices in the scenic area are higher. 💡Autumn Travel Tips 1. The Greater Khingan Mountains cover a vast area. Don't try to visit every spot in two days; just pick the highlights. Most of your time will be spent on the road. 2. Don't rely solely on the weather forecast for temperature! It's much colder in the forest than in the city. Wear long sleeves during the day and put on a down jacket in the evening. Many tourists catch colds from the cold. 3. Drones are prohibited in some border areas, so don't fly them randomly. Many places in the forest area have no cell signal, so keep some cash on hand. 4. Accommodation is tight during the peak autumn season, and prices skyrocket on weekends and during the National Day holiday. Be sure to book your accommodation and vehicle in advance. 5. Don't drive off-road onto dirt paths just because the scenery looks nice; it's easy to get stuck. Do not enter undeveloped primeval forests on your own, as it's easy to get lost.

I've just returned from Hulunbuir in September/October, and I really don't recommend going, because it's just...

First, the conclusion: Hulunbuir in September/October features golden grasslands and yellow birch forests—it's the most colorful window of the year. But by October, winter sets in and the grass turns black, so timing is everything. I came for the "vast, boundless sky and wild plains." Standing at the Morigele River observation deck, the moment I saw the golden waves of grass winding through 18 bends, I felt it was worth it. But! Why, despite the legendary autumn scenery, would I never want to rush in during October again? 😮💨 Hulunbuir is in northeastern Inner Mongolia. The most convenient way is to fly into Hailar Dongshan Airport and then hire a car, as the attractions are very spread out. The Ergun Wetland, Birch Forest, and the Russian-style towns of Enhe and Shiwei form a loop. I originally thought the grasslands were green all year round, but I discovered that the autumn colors only turn gold for a short window. I only understood this after stepping on every landmine. ⛰️ First, the highlights—I'm not exaggerating The Ergun Wetland is the "No. 1 Wetland in Asia," with the Genhe River winding through it and autumn colors transitioning from yellow to red and green. Admission is CNY 65. The sightseeing vehicle is CNY 77. 🌿 The Morigele River is the "No. 1 winding river under heaven." You can get aerial shots of the nine bends in the golden grassland, and most observation decks are free. 🐎 The Birch Forest scenic area features golden leaves and white trunks—wearing red or white clothes makes for great photos. Staying one night in the Russian-style log cabin towns of Enhe and Shiwei is super healing. 🏡 Go horseback riding on the Heishantou grassland to watch the sunset. Find a legitimate horse team and wear a helmet. The border highway offers a view of two countries at a glance. 🌅 The peak is mid-to-late September. By early October, the grass turns black as winter sets in. For the best chance to see the golden colors, aim for September 15–30. 📸 Photo spots—just copy these Aerial shots of the nine bends from the Morigele River cliffs; the morning light and shadows are the best. Climb the tower at Ergun Wetland for a distant view; the Genhe River looks like a jade belt winding through the meadows. Wear red in the Birch Forest to photograph the golden leaves and white trunks for a full fairytale vibe. Swing toward the sky at the Shiwei border river; the winding border river beneath your feet lets you see two countries at once. 🍜 How to eat right in Hulunbuir Hand-grabbed mutton dipped in chive flower sauce is tender and has no gamey taste. Mongolian milk tea with roasted rice and milk tofu, iron pot stew, and roasted whole lamb will warm your body and stomach. 🍖 The grassland route is expensive, so don't trust "pure play" tours that are significantly below cost. Freshly boiled hand-grabbed mutton at a herdsman's home is the most authentic; you can also try it at the Nuomintala Milk Tea House in the city. 🚗 Transportation guide Fly into Hailar Dongshan Airport. Hiring a 7-seater car upon arrival for CNY 600–800/day is highly recommended. Alternatively, take a train to Hailar Station and then hire a car. Attractions are scattered and public transport is inconvenient; self-driving beginners can easily get lost. Admission: Ergun Wetland CNY 65. Sightseeing vehicle CNY 77; Birch Forest approx. CNY 30–50; most Morigele River observation decks are free. Bring your ID for the border route. 💡 A few tips The golden window for autumn colors is September 15–30. By early October, the grass turns black as winter sets in, so don't wait until the National Day holiday to come. September temperatures are 5–18°C, with mornings and evenings near 0°C. A down jacket is a must. Attractions are very scattered. If it's your first time, hiring a car or joining a small "pure play" tour is the safest bet. The Birch Forest and the wetland are the soul of the autumn scenery; don't just visit the grasslands. Follow regulations on the border route; don't trust scalpers who claim they can "guide you across the border." Finally, a heartfelt word: When I said "I really don't recommend going," I meant I don't recommend arriving during the National Day holiday, not wearing a down jacket, or blindly rushing in without self-driving experience. In the September–October season, if you time it for mid-to-late September to see the golden grasslands and ride horses while chasing the sunset, Hulunbuir's autumn scenery is worth experiencing at least once. When the grass turns gold, go to the Morigele River and wait for an autumn sunset. ✨

Autumn in Hulunbuir lasts only 20 days—miss it and you'll wait a whole year — traveler post in Genhe

Autumn in Hulunbuir lasts only 20 days—miss it and you'll wait a whole year

Hey everyone! Hulunbuir is packed in the summer, but the real travelers are waiting for autumn🍂 From early September to mid-October, the Greater Khingan Mountains turn yellow layer by layer from north to south, with golden forests and grasslands that look like paintings. The entire autumn scenery lasts only about 20 days. If you miss it, you really have to wait another year. 🍁 Trip highlights (don't skip these spots) Morigele River—The winding river in autumn spreads across the golden grasslands. It's less crowded and great for photos, ten times better than in summer. Mordaga Forest Train—Slowly travel through the golden forest. Tickets are CNY 100 for a 1.5-hour loop. Every frame looks like an oil painting. Enhe Russian Ethnic Township—Log cabins paired with birch forests. You can make your own Lieba, and the morning mist in the town is stunning. Heishantou sunset—Ride a horse through the wetlands. The pink and purple clouds at dusk are so beautiful you won't want to blink. Arxan—The main attraction for late autumn. Tuofengling Heaven Lake + forest hot springs, the autumn scenery is at its peak. 🗺️ 6-day itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Hailar, visit the museum, and have hot pot lamb for dinner Day 2: Hailar > Morigele River > Ergun Wetlands, stay in Ergun Day 3: Ergun > Genhe > Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe > Mordaga, stay in Shiwei or Linjiang Day 4: Shiwei > Border road > Heishantou, go horseback riding to watch the sunset and stay in a yurt Day 5: Heishantou > Manzhouli, see the European-style architecture light up Day 6: Manzhouli > Hailar, return trip The core strategy: Start from Hailar, take a loop on the northern route, and don't backtrack. 🥘 What to eat Hand-grabbed mutton, copper pot hot pot lamb, lamb offal soup, and milk tea (Guocha). Milk skin mooncakes are an autumn exclusive, and hazel mushroom stewed chicken is the best dish in the forest area. Local Mongolian meals have huge portions, so order less to avoid waste. ⚠️ Things to note Dress in layers. It's in the teens (Celsius) during the day and near 0°C at night, so don't skimp on down jackets and windbreakers. There is no signal on the border road between Jiuka and Qika, so download offline maps in advance and slow down to under 40 km/h on some sections. Autumn is a critical period for fire prevention; bringing fire sources into forest areas and grasslands is strictly prohibited. Accommodation is tight during peak season, so book at least one month in advance. Autumn in Hulunbuir is very short, so short it feels like a limited-time dream. But precisely because it's short, it's worth a special trip.

Ergun Wetland Photo Spots — traveler post in Genhe

Ergun Wetland Photo Spots

Starting from Huzhong Town, driving through the sea of forests in the Greater Khingan Mountains for six hours, the view outside the window slowly shifts from layered birch forests to open grasslands and meadows. That transition from forest to grassland is a moving scenic masterpiece in itself. The destination is Jagdaqi District, the seat of the Greater Khingan Mountains Administrative Office and a stopover on this journey, but the real highlight is this wetland in Ergun, the largest in Asia. 📍 Ergun Wetland Address: Northwest suburbs of Labudalin Subdistrict, Ergun City, Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Opening Hours: Summer (June 15–Aug 31) 7:30 AM–5:30 PM; Autumn (Sept 1–Sept 15) 8:00 AM–6:00 PM; Sept 16–Oct 7 7:30 AM–6:30 PM (Ticket sales stop at 5:30 PM, entry stops at 5:00 PM) Admission: CNY 65 🌿 Travel Notes The tour route in the wetland park is very clear. After entering the main gate, you can take a short electric shuttle ride to the start of the wooden boardwalk, and then follow the boardwalk uphill. The boardwalk is gentle, making it easy for seniors and children to walk. The most classic photo spot is on the observation deck. Standing high up and looking down, the Genhe River looks like a winding silver chain, cutting the shrubs, meadows, and distant birch forests into a layered oil painting. If you are lucky enough to catch the evening light, the river water turns golden, and any photo you take is wallpaper-worthy. The entire boardwalk takes about 1.5 hours to walk, with several pavilions along the way for resting. If you have time, you can stay a little longer, sit on a bench by the boardwalk, and listen to the sound of the wind blowing through the grass. That kind of quiet is something you can't buy in the city. 📸 Photography Tips Hats, sunglasses, and long dresses look great in photos, but remember to hold onto your hat when it's windy. Drones are prohibited in the scenic area; the observation deck offers the best view, so don't bother trying to fly one. It is recommended to bring a bottle of water, as there are no supply points on the boardwalk. 🚗 Practical Tips Driving from Jagdaqi, you can just search for "Ergun Wetland Scenic Area" in your navigation. The road conditions are good throughout the journey, and sedans are fine. There is a free parking lot at the entrance of the park. The UV rays are strong in the scenic area during summer, so bring sunscreen and a sun hat. The wind on the grassland is quite "enthusiastic," so a light jacket is a must, as the temperature difference between morning and evening is significant. 🍽️ Where to Eat Nearby Ergun city is not big. Find a Mongolian restaurant frequented by locals; the hand-grabbed mutton, pot tea, and milk skin are all safe bets. It is recommended to go during meal times, as many shops close after hours. This journey from the sea of forests to the wetlands, from the forest to the grassland, has filled my eyes with the vastness of the Greater Khingan Mountains and the gentleness of Ergun. If you are also planning to take this route, I suggest visiting Ergun Wetland in the afternoon when the light is soft and there are fewer people, making for a much more comfortable experience.

Hulunbuir is legendary in autumn! Fewer crowds, stunning scenery, and even better than summer

Hulunbuir is packed in the summer, but you'll realize it's a steal in the autumn. The birch forests turn golden, the grasslands are covered in a warm-colored carpet, there are half as many tourists, and accommodation is 30% cheaper. ✨ Must-visit highlights Ergun Wetland: The number one wetland in Asia. In autumn, the forests are painted in layers of color. Climb to the top to overlook the winding Genhe River, which looks like an overturned palette. Birch Forest Scenic Area: The golden mountains paired with white tree trunks make walking inside feel like a fairy tale. It's most beautiful when the afternoon light hits at an angle. Mordaga: Ride the forest train through the Greater Khingan Mountains, with a sea of gold outside the window. Heishantou: Ride a horse at sunset and watch the grassland turn orange; the silhouette of the horse team is incredible. Enhe/Shiwei: Russian ethnic villages where wooden houses (mu-ke-leng) paired with golden fallen leaves are quiet and photogenic. 🗺️ Itinerary Day 1: Hailar → Ergun Wetland → Stay in Ergun. Day 2: Birch Forest → Enhe → Stay in Shiwei. Day 3: Mordaga Forest Train → Stay in Mordaga. Day 4: Horseback riding in Heishantou to watch the sunset → Stay in Heishantou. Day 5: Return to Hailar. 🍽️ What to eat Hand-grabbed mutton: Dip it in chive flower sauce; it's tender and not gamey. Pot tea: Hot, salty, and fragrant, served with fried rice and milk skin. Lieba (Russian bread) + blueberry jam: Freshly baked in Enhe, sweet, sour, and rich. Roasted lamb chops: Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, sprinkled with cumin and chili powder. ⚠️ Travel tips Best time: Mid-September to early October, when the birch trees are golden and the autumn colors are at their peak. Transportation: Renting a car or driving yourself is recommended, as attractions are spread out and public transport is limited. Clothing: Temperatures are around freezing in the morning and evening, so a down jacket or windbreaker is essential. Accommodation: Book wooden house homestays in Enhe and Shiwei in advance, as rooms with autumn views sell out quickly. Note: Autumn is the fire prevention season on the grasslands; do not bring fire sources into the forest areas. Hulunbuir in autumn isn't just gentle; it's an overwhelming expanse of gold. With fewer people and lower prices, the scenery is even more intense than in summer.

Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe Scenic Area

Genhe Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe: A great family trip! 👍😊 1. Visited on September 26th, catching the last vestiges of autumn colors; there were still 30% of the autumn foliage remaining in the Greater Khingan Mountains larch forest. 💪 2. There were about 10-20 reindeer and sika deer each, a great experience for taking photos. 3. The Evenki folk song and dance performance allowed us to experience the cultural philosophy of this ancient people, living among the deer and making the forest their home. 🌈 4. The staff were very dedicated, displaying the ruggedness and generosity of northerners. Summary: For seeing deer in Genhe, this is the top choice.

Genheyuan National Wetland Park

This place feels like a primeval forest, mysterious and rugged. My husband and I enjoyed our first road trip to the scenic area. We drove along a road dotted with little red flags, enjoying the forests, lawns, wildflowers, and streams along the way. It was beautiful! It's said to be the largest wetland in Hulunbuir and well worth a visit. It's very close to Genhe City, but don't be mistaken; it's easy to find the Ergun Wetland online, but it's far from Genhe. The park offers a resort, reindeer trekking, rafting, and more.

Greater Khingan Range

Aoluguya Reindeer Village

Aoluguya is inhabited by descendants of the Ewenki prehistoric tribe, who have been raising reindeer for generations. Reindeer are known as the boat of the forest and the legendary four-in-one. China's last hunting tribe is the only ethnic minority in China that raises reindeer. They hide in the snowy forests of the Greater Khingan Range, survive in extreme conditions of more than 40 degrees below zero, and stick to the most primitive hunting methods and keep reindeer company. Various signs and ways of thinking of the primitive and clan communes are still partially preserved among them. Watch the customs of the ancient Ewenki hunters, taste deer milk wine, and watch Santa Claus' mount in the animation - reindeer. Get close to the reindeer. You can interact with the reindeer and feed them moss. The reindeer is gentle in nature. Don't be scared by its big antlers! Touch its cute little face, take photos, and leave a good memory! Xing'an Shenlu Park

The reindeer are amazing. They will chase you and nudge you when they see food. If you don’t take the food, they will let you take pictures calmly. I suggest you don’t buy feed to feed them.

Inner Mongolia Yikesama National Forest Park

38 kilometers away from Mangui Town is the Iksama Scenic Area. "Iksama" is the Ewenki language, which means "beautiful and wide river" in Chinese. Iksama Resort is located on the east side of the Iksama Bridge, built by the mountains and rivers. The resort has wooden houses, yurts, swimming pools, wildlife parks, forest rest gardens, etc. There is a big willow tree in the center of the resort. It is a single tree that blocks out the sun and can be used by tourists to cool off in summer. About 25 kilometers north of the Iksama Resort, there is a very rare Siberian red pine in the Greater Khingan Range. There are 61 trees in total, all of which are middle-aged forests. Siberian red pine is a famous tree species in the cold temperate coniferous forests of Eurasia and can be called the "King of Taiga". When they were discovered in the early 1950s, they were mistaken for red pines. It was not until Professor Zhao Guangyi of Northeast Forestry University and others conducted nearly a decade of intensive research that they were confirmed to be Siberian red pines. They are revered as "sacred trees" by the Ewenki people. Whenever an Ewenki passes by, they hang various ornaments on the trees and pay homage to them. The origin of these more than 60 Siberian red pines remains a mystery.
