Overview & History • Xi’an Museum officially opened on May 18, 2007.  • The museum complex includes three parts: the museum building itself, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda / Jianfu Temple historic area, and the museum gardens.  • Its design blends modern architecture with traditional elements; the exhibition section was designed by Zhang Jinqiu.  ⸻ 📜 Collections & Exhibits • The museum houses about 130,000 artifacts, of which more than 14,400 are designated as national-level precious relics.  • Exhibition space is over 5,000 m² (within a larger museum complex of ~16,000 m²).  • The exhibitions are organized into three types: permanent exhibition, thematic / special exhibitions, and temporary exhibitions.  • The major theme is “Ancient Capital (长安 / Chang’an / Xi’an)” — showing successive dynasties that had Xi’an (Chang’an) as capital, urban layouts, historical artifacts from Zhou, Qin, Han, Tang, etc.  Some Notable Sections / Highlights • Relics of early dynasties: bronzes, models, city plans.  • Buddhist statues / art: showing the influence of Buddhism in Chang’an / Xi’an.  • Jade & seals: ceremonial jades, official seals through dynasties, especially Qing, Han.  • Paintings & calligraphy: the museum also holds works of art, scrolls, etc.  • The Jianfu / Small Wild Goose Pagoda area contributes to the appeal: historical pagoda, gardens, temple layout.  ⸻ 🕰 Opening Hours & Tickets • Typical hours:  • Summer (Mar 15 – Oct 31): 9:00 – 18:00   • Winter: 9:00 – 17:30  • Closed on Tuesdays (unless a public holiday)  ⸻ 💡 Tips for Visiting • Free entry, but tickets are required (daily quota). • You can reserve in advance via Trip.com, which makes it more convenient for international visitors. • Plan 2–3 hours to enjoy the exhibitions + a stroll around the gardens. • Easier to book than the Shaanxi History Museum, so don’t miss it if you’re in Xi’an. #mytraveldiary #xian #chinatravel #xianmuseum #freeattraction #culturaltravel
