The Guandi Temple in Taierzhuang

The Guandi Temple in Taierzhuang is located on the east side of the ancient canal in the southern part of the old city, and it also served as the Shanxi Guild Hall during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Built in the 13th year of the Yongzheng era of the Qing Dynasty, the temple was funded and constructed by Shanxi merchants. It underwent three expansions and renovations during the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods, reaching its peak with an area of 20,000 square meters and a building area of over 10,000 square meters. Comprising the main hall, the Spring and Autumn Pavilion, the east and west side halls, the wing rooms, and the stage, the temple is intricately laid out with magnificent halls and exquisite carvings, embodying the pinnacle of architectural art and being one of the most popular and influential temples. During the Battle of Taierzhuang in 1938, this site served as the headquarters of General Chifengcheng and is one of the remaining sites of the Taierzhuang battle.
