The city was much cleaner and cozier than I expected, featuring valleys, bridges, an Old Town, and plenty of pristine buildings. It had a totally different vibe from Brussels. However, our stopover was actually quite short—only about two hours—and most of that time was spent having lunch. So, we basically just strolled around the Upper Town. The scenery was gorgeous, but it was just a quick photo op rather than an immersive experience. On the contrary, the second stop, Dinant, surprised me way more. As soon as I hopped off the bus, the view of the riverside, the church, the colorful houses, the massive rocky cliff behind, and the hilltop citadel all blended perfectly, creating a highly layered landscape. Dinant isn't the type of place where you rush from one attraction to another. The best part is simply taking a slow walk along the river, enjoying the views, snapping some photos, and catching the breeze. The whole vibe was incredibly chill. Dinant also has a small saxophone museum/exhibit. It was pretty interesting to stumble upon during the trip and definitely added a memorable touch to the little town. I also spotted people riding water bikes by the river, which looked super relaxing. If we weren't on a tight schedule with the day tour, spending a night here with a partner or friends—strolling along the river in the afternoon, pedaling on water bikes, and enjoying a slow dinner—would be absolutely delightful. If you ask me if this day tour is worth it, I'd say it depends on your expectations. If you really want to explore Luxembourg thoroughly, the time provided is definitely not enough. But if you're based in Brussels and just want an easy day trip to get a glimpse of Luxembourg and wander around a lovely riverside town, this combo is quite effortless. The biggest surprise of the trip was definitely Dinant. Luxembourg was clean and cozy, but the visit was just too brief. Dinant, on the other hand, left a much deeper impression because I actually got the chance to take a proper, leisurely walk along the river.

We found an outdoor bar in Ghent, ordered some cheese and ham, and paired it with white wine. After a long walk, sitting down to enjoy a slow meal was incredibly chill. One day, we joined a guided day tour to Luxembourg and Dinant. We only spent about two hours in Luxembourg, and most of that time went to having lunch. So, we basically just took a quick stroll around the Upper City to get a feel for the place. We also squeezed in a half-day trip to Zaandam to see the colorful suburban houses and windmills. Overall, this itinerary wasn't overly packed at all. It felt more like basing ourselves in Brussels and then making a slow transition to Amsterdam. It's perfect for anyone who wants to visit multiple cities in one go without the stress of rushing through tourist spots every single day.

The space area is open for public to picnic on the side. You can walk closer to the castle through the river as well. Another option is to kayak through Lisse River. You can easily find kayak rental nearby if you don’t have your own. If you are not fan of those, take the walking trail across the river and enjoy the sight of the castle while enjoying the nature surrounding. It’s definitely worth to visit.

The stairs area are small for both people going up and down at the same time. But considering that it was a fortress before, I can understand the reason of such a small pathway. There’s a cable car to access the top but it’s slow and small in size, the capacity can only take small amount of visitors in one trip, so the que is pretty long from going up and coming down. The place that you are allowed to visit up there is not a lot, so I hope you don’t expect much. Cafe and playground available, same for souvenirs shop as well. WC are available for 50cents, so bring your change. If you are lazy to climb or ride the cable car, you should look up how to reach the citadel by cars to the top as I saw plenty of cars parked next to the citadel.

Every summer since 2023, I’ve made it a tradition to visit Dinant. Many people know it for its colorful riverside houses and as the birthplace of one of the world’s most iconic musical instruments, the saxophone. For me, though, it’s the river that makes Dinant special. It’s the perfect place for kayaking and always reminds me of my village, except this one has a stunning castle perched on a rocky cliff overlooking the Lesse River. Unfortunately, because of the dry summer and lack of rainfall, the water was too shallow for kayaking this time. But every cloud has a silver lining, I still got to admire the castle from the riverside and even strike a few silly poses that would have been impossible if the water had been higher. The trip didn’t go exactly as I had hoped, but I still enjoyed every moment I spent there. Sometimes, the unexpected makes the best memories.

I transferred from Brussels to Dinant. It took a little over two hours each way, but I really wanted to take a photo of this view. The cathedral was amazing, and the fortress-like castle above it was also amazing. I couldn't use the cable car, so I had to walk up the stairs, which was tough. The view from above is spectacular.
