🇺🇸 Your perfect day-trip to Frederick, Maryland (save this plan) ✨
We spent almost 2 weeks in Frederick on our last trip —
visiting my American mom.
We met 10 years ago when I came to the U.S. through a social work exchange program, and we’ve stayed close ever since 🤍
And even after all that time there, I think
👉 1 day in Frederick is actually perfect if you plan it right.
⸻
Frederick is a small historic town in Maryland, about 1 hour from Washington, D.C. —
known for its charming downtown, walkable streets, and relaxed atmosphere.
Here’s how I’d spend a perfect day 👇
⸻
☀️ MORNING — historic downtown
📍 Historic Downtown Frederick
👉 quiet streets + local shops
👉 very easy to explore on foot
💡 go early → best light and fewer people
⸻
🌿 MIDDAY — slow walk
📍 Carroll Creek Park
👉 canals, bridges, and small details everywhere
👉 perfect for a relaxed walk
⸻
🍴 LUNCH — keep it simple
👉 anywhere in downtown
👉 small local cafés
👉 no need to overplan
⸻
🌇 AFTERNOON — nature + views
📍 Gambrill State Park
👉 about 15–20 minutes by car
👉 quiet, green, and completely different from downtown
⸻
✈️ HOW TO GET THERE
From Baltimore/Washington International Airport
👉 ~1 hour by car
From Washington Dulles International Airport
👉 ~1–1.5 hours
💡 renting a car is the easiest option
⸻

New York Outskirts Tour I Catoctin Mountain Hiking Park
🔥Checked in American National Parks: 3/100
Driving from Gettysburg Park to Monocacy Park, you will pass through Catoctin Mountain Park, which is great for hiking when the weather is nice. The park consists of a state park and a national park, established during the Great Depression in 1930, and the mountain area once had steel mills and breweries. Turn right off the highway exit to enter the mountain area, where the signal is decent, so there's no need to download Google offline maps in advance.
You can set your destination directly to Catoctin Mountain Park Visitor Center, where there is a larger parking lot. At the visitor center, you can get a trail map for hiking, and there is also a small exhibition hall. On the way to the visitor center, you will pass by a small waterfall and lake area, and the walking distance is not too long.
There are mainly 2 trails starting from the visitor center. One is the 0.6-mile Blue Blazes Whiskey, a round trip of about half an hour, which is a relatively simple trail where you can see a reconstructed prototype of the distillery, and it's not difficult to walk. The other is the 2.8-mile Cunningham Falls, a round trip of about 2 hours, with larger rocks along the way, so it's a good idea to bring some water and snacks.
