The garden is beautifully maintained, making it a highly recommended spot for nature lovers. You can also tour the interior of Monet's house. While there may not be anything particularly extraordinary just because Monet lived there, the house does feature a well-curated display of his works, reflecting his life. Beyond Monet's house, the village of Giverny itself is a picturesque setting. Since the village is not very large, if you visit Monet's house, I highly recommend taking the time to explore Giverny as well. The souvenirs at Monet's house are also lovely. There are so many tempting items that it can be hard to resist buying them all. I ended up purchasing a music box inspired by the Water Lilies series, and I am very satisfied with it.

Every painting looked like an oil painting. I really liked it.

When I go to Paris, I really want to go to Giverny. You have to take a train for about an hour from downtown Paris and then take a shuttle bus to get there. It was Monet's garden, which is a hundred years old, and it seemed like he took good care of it. Day 3 in Paris was the biggest surprise of the whole trip! We headed out leisurely after lunch without any reservations, just trying our luck. To our surprise, we got free admission to both the Orangerie and the Orsay as art teachers. After visiting, I truly felt that compared to the crowded Louvre, these two museums are a real visual feast—the experience was absolutely top-tier. 🪷 Stop 1: Musée de l'Orangerie | An hour wrapped in water lilies p1-5 We walked over from the InterContinental. We were just trying our luck, but after waiting in line for about 1 hour, we got in smoothly. Here is a fun fact: the Orangerie really used to be an "orangery." In 1852, Napoleon III ordered this greenhouse to be built next to the Tuileries Garden to protect royal orange trees during the winter. With a full glass south wall for light and stone north walls for insulation, it is a building born for light. After World War I, Monet donated his late-life "Water Lilies" series to the nation as a gift of peace. He personally participated in designing the exhibition halls, transforming the Orangerie into what it is today. On the ground floor, there are 2 oval halls where 8 massive "Water Lilies" paintings are spread along the curved walls, totaling 91 meters in length. They were all custom-created by Monet to fit the space. Walking slowly through the center of the hall, it feels like you are really standing by the pond in Giverny, gently embraced by the water, light, and water lilies. Time just slows down. The lower level houses collections by Renoir, Cézanne, and Picasso. The museum is not huge, but every piece is a masterpiece. It is quiet and uncrowded, making for a very comfortable visit. 🎨 Stop 2: Musée d'Orsay | Half of modern Western art history p6-10 We finished at the Orangerie early, so we thought we would try our luck at the Orsay on the way. To our surprise, we got free admission again without even waiting in line. We immediately rented an audio guide and dove in for the whole afternoon. The Orsay was originally the Orsay railway station for the 1900 Paris Exposition. It was not converted into a museum until 1986. It specializes in art from 1848–1914, perfectly bridging the gap between the classical art of the Louvre and the modern art of the Centre Pompidou—a crucial link in art history. The most stunning part is walking through the galleries and seeing a complete, flowing history of art: From the refined classicism of the Academic style to the realism of Courbet and Millet (the original "The Gleaners" is even more powerful than I imagined), to the Impressionist revolution sparked by Manet, Monet, and Renoir, capturing light and moments, and finally, reaching the top floor, where the Post-Impressionist works of Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Cézanne hit you with intense colors and emotions that touch the soul.
