Apparently there are a lot of windy days in Malta. 8. Beautiful fortress Citadel. The sunset from here was also wonderful. 9. Xlendi, a resort on the island of Gozo. The Azure Window collapsed in March 2017; what remains is the Inland Sea—a saltwater lagoon connected to the open sea by a 50 m tunnel through the cliff—plus the Blue Hole dive site and the flat-topped Fungus Rock. I paid €5 for a 20-minute boat ride into the tunnel (cash only, negotiable with the boatman, no ticket desk), and sat on the remnant cliff deck where the arch used to frame the sky. It starts just outside of the quaint town of Zurrieq. It begins by hiking into and through Wied Babu (Gorge) and along the southern coast to the Blue Grotto (named because of the massive cathedral like caves and the seas color), then continue past Wied Zurrieq and along the jagged limestone cliffs to Torri tal Hamrija (an old lighthouse). The last section of the trail follows above and beside the sea until Ghar Lapsi and the large parking lot for the TarRita restaurant. Located in the heart of Independence Square, it has a charming atmosphere that blends traditional Maltese character with a cosy European café feel. The location is perfect after visiting the Citadel, allowing you to sit back and take in the atmosphere of old Gozo. The beer was excellent.
