#bucketlistdestinations Old Man’s Cave in Hocking Hills State Park is Ohio’s most famous hike— a 1-mile loop through a mossy gorge with waterfalls, caves, and sandstone cliffs. Entrance is free (no day-use fee), and the trailhead has a large parking lot (free, but fills by 8 am on weekends). The trail is rocky, with some steep sections and a few stairs—I wore hiking boots and watched my step on the mossy rocks. I carried 1 liter of water; there’s a water fountain at the visitor center, but not on the trail. A park ranger told me the cave is named after a hermit who lived there in the 1800s—“the moss was his carpet.” Kindness beat: a park volunteer gave me a free “Hocking Hills Explorer” booklet and told me to visit the “Devil’s Bathtub” (a nearby natural pool) early in the morning—“the moss is magical when the sun hits it.” My take: Old Man’s Cave is a reminder that “magic” can be found in your own backyard. The moss on the rocks is a sign that the forest is alive, even in a state park with millions of visitors. Should we prioritize “accessibility” in state parks, or keep some trails rugged and undeveloped?

Cedar Falls is one of the main attraction of Hocking hills. There are multiple ways to reach to Cedar Point. It can be included in trail from Old Mans Cave which is 3 mile trail and takes you to different scenery. Trail is little bit muddy in between so need comfortable shoes for trail. In rainy season it becomes more muddy. On public holidays it becomes overcrowded. Fall is great after rainy season when water level becomes more. Near Cedar point there are many lodging and stay places. There are places nearby to eat and gift shop to get souvenirs. You can go by drive and then walk for 5-10 mins to reach fall.
