Huanglong travel guide and discussion

If you're planning a trip to Jiuzhaigou, I highly recommend taking the High-Speed Rail + Private Car Transfer. It's a comfortable, efficient, and hassle-free way to visit both Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong in just 2D1N. 🚄 Why choose this route? Instead of spending 8–10 hours on a coach, take the high-speed rail from Chengdu to Jiuzhai Huanglong Station in around 2 hours. Your private driver will then transfer you directly to the scenic areas, making the journey much more relaxing. 🌿 Day 1 – Huanglong Scenic Area Marvel at the stunning golden travertine terraces and crystal-clear turquoise pools nestled among the mountains and stay overnight near JiuZhaiGou. 💙 Day 2 – Jiuzhaigou National Park Spend the day exploring one of China's most beautiful national parks, famous for its emerald lakes, multi-tiered waterfalls, and pristine forests. 📸 Don't miss these two viewpoints! 🏞️ Shuzheng Lakes Viewpoint Climb up to the viewing platform for a panoramic view of the cascading turquoise lakes. It's one of the best photo spots in Jiuzhaigou and well worth the short climb. 🌊 Nuorilang Waterfall Viewpoint Most visitors stop at the boardwalk, but climbing to the upper viewpoint lets you fully appreciate the scale of China's widest calcified waterfall. 🍁 Travel Tip: Visit in mid-October! In my opinion, mid-October is one of the best times to visit Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. The forests transform into vibrant shades of gold, orange, and red, creating a spectacular contrast against the park's crystal-clear blue lakes. It's peak autumn scenery, making every viewpoint look like a painting. ✨ Why I recommend High-Speed Rail + Private Transfer ✅ Save hours of travel time ✅ Comfortable and stress-free journey ✅ No need to navigate public transport ✅ Ideal for families, couples, and first-time visitors Jiuzhaigou is one of those places that truly exceeds expectations. No camera can fully capture the incredible shades of blue in the lakes or the beauty of the autumn colours. If you're visiting Sichuan, this is an experience you shouldn't miss. 🍁 If possible, plan your trip for mid-October—the combination of fiery autumn foliage and the park's iconic turquoise waters is simply unforgettable. #jiuzhaigou #huanglong #sichuan #chinatravel #highspeedrail #privatetransfer #naturelovers #unesco #travelchina #bucketlist #travelrecommendation #shuzhenglakes #nuorilangwaterfall

#mytravelwrap Huanglong in late March was definitely not the Huanglong I had seen in photos. ❄️🏔️ I was expecting those bright blue, green and yellow pools surrounded by mountains, but winter was still very much around when we visited. Most of the park was covered in snow, the trees were white, and some of the pools were still partially frozen. 🚄 Getting there from Chengdu We took the high-speed train from Chengdu to Huanglongjiuzhai Station, then continued by bus from the station to Huanglong Scenic Area. The bus ride takes around 40 minutes, so the whole journey was much more straightforward than I initially expected. If you're planning this route, check your train and bus timings together. I’d also leave some buffer time instead of planning everything too tightly, especially since weather conditions can affect mountain transport. 🏔️ Our Huanglong experience From the scenic area, we took the cable car up and then walked through the upper section towards Five-Color Pond. The cable car ride itself was already pretty scenic. As we climbed higher, the landscape became increasingly snowy and the mountain views started opening up. Five-Color Pond was quite different from the usual photos. Instead of seeing all the colourful pools clearly, we had snow and ice covering parts of the terraces, with only sections of the blue and yellow pools showing through. And Huanglong is HIGH. The valley is above 3,200m, while Five-Color Pond is around 3,576m, so even walking what looks like a short distance can feel surprisingly tiring. We took it slow and stopped whenever we needed to. 🌨️ A very different Huanglong I actually liked seeing it this way. Late March meant we caught Huanglong somewhere between winter and spring. Snow-covered branches, frozen sections, misty mountains and little patches of colour appearing through the ice made the whole place look completely different from the summer photos I had saved. We also passed through the wider Songpan area, which is part of the Min River's headwater region, so there was plenty of mountain scenery even outside the main attraction. 💡 A few things I'd keep in mind · High altitude, so don't underestimate the walking · Wear proper shoes because snow and ice can make some sections slippery · Bring water and take your time · Check the weather and scenic area conditions before going · If taking the train from Chengdu, coordinate your train and shuttle bus timings · Late March can still feel very much like winter, so don't pack based on Chengdu's weather Huanglong wasn't the colourful, almost tropical-looking landscape I expected from Instagram. It was colder, snowier and much quieter than that. And honestly, getting to see it while winter was still hanging on made the trip feel a little more special. 📍Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area, Songpan, Sichuan, China #citydaytours #travel2026 #thingstodo #myitinerary #couplestrip #china #chinatravel #bucketlist #sichuan #chengdu #huanglong #songpan #hotdiscussions

#epictravelmoments Standing on the wooden boardwalk at Five Flower Lake, I caught myself holding my breath. I have seen clear mountain water before, but nothing prepares you for the sheer, hyper-vivid intensity of Jiuzhaigou. Ancient fallen trees lie preserved at the bottom of the turquoise pool like submerged glacial sculptures, frozen in time under water so luminous it looks completely unedited. As the morning light hit the Min Mountains, casting reflections of alpine pines across the crystal-clear glass, I realized I was standing in one of the most mesmerizing corners of the Earth. It feels less like a hiking trail and more like walking through a living canvas painted by nature at its absolute wildest. My journey deeper into the Y-shaped valley brought one unbelievable scene after another. Trekking toward Nuorilang Waterfall, the roaring thunder of alpine runoff echoed through the forest long before the cascades came into view. When I finally reached the drop point, watching broad sheets of water pour over moss-draped travertine steps, mist sprayed across my face in cool, refreshing bursts. Every turn along the trail reveals something fresh: multi-tiered alpine lakes changing shades from deep cobalt to bright jade, snow-capped peaks towering in the backdrop, and quiet prayer flags fluttering along Tibetan village edges. It is raw, immaculately preserved, and gives you that intense surge of wonder that makes long-distance travel completely worth it. Getting to this remote mountain paradise has become remarkably effortless. Taking the bullet train from Chengdu East to Huanglong-Jiuzhai Station takes roughly two hours, followed by a local connecting bus or taxi straight to the valley entrance. Planning your budget is fairly straightforward: peak season tickets running from April through mid-November cost 280 RMB ($39 USD) per adult, which includes mandatory eco-bus transportation throughout the park network, while off-season rates drop down to 160 RMB ($22 USD). Essential Local Tips Catch the First Shuttle: Enter the gate right when the park opens at 7:30 AM and take the bus straight to the highest point of the Rize Valley to enjoy the pristine morning boardwalks before the afternoon crowds arrive. Hike the Boardwalks: Instead of taking the shuttle between every single stop, walk the wooden trails between Panda Lake and Pearl Shoal Waterfall for quiet views and stunning forest photography. Stay Layered: High-altitude mountain weather shifts rapidly, so bring a breathable windbreaker, high-SPF sunscreen, plenty of water, and comfortable trail walking shoes. Savor Local Eats: Try a hot bowl of traditional Tibetan yak meat noodle soup at the local eateries right outside the park entrance after a long day of hiking. #Jiuzhaigou #SichuanTravel #ChinaAdventures #EpicTravelMoments #Wanderlust #BucketListDestinationsns #UnrealLandscapes

#itinerarycheck Reaching the highest point gave me a real sense of accomplishment. I was tired, slightly out of breath because of the altitude, but standing there and looking across the valley made every step worthwhile. It reminded me that the most rewarding views often require a little effort. One thing I learned from Huanglong is that patience makes the experience even better. There is no need to rush. The beauty isn't only in the famous Five-Color Ponds—it's also in the quiet walk, the fresh mountain air, and the peaceful feeling that stays with you long after you leave. My Huanglong Itinerary Check-in Morning Arrived at Huanglong Scenic Area. Took the cable car to the upper station to save energy. Walked toward the Five-Color Ponds while enjoying the mountain scenery. Afternoon Explored the colorful travertine pools and stopped at several viewpoints. Took plenty of photos but also spent time simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Walked downhill along the wooden boardwalk, passing waterfalls, forests, and smaller pools. Returned to the entrance and continued the journey to Jiuzhaigou. Looking back, Huanglong wasn't just another scenic destination. It was a place that reminded me to slow down, appreciate nature, and enjoy every step of the journey. Some places impress you with their beauty, but Huanglong surprised me with the sense of peace it gave me. It's a memory I know I'll carry with me for a very long time.

🏞️ 🌸 Spring (Mar–May) Nature awakens, flowers bloom, and waterfalls rush with melting snow. The weather is cool and breezy, and it's less crowded. Perfect for those who love a relaxed trip. ☀️ Summer (Jun–Aug) The lakes showcase their most vibrant turquoise hues, waterfalls are full, and the forests are lush and green. Great for families and nature lovers. 🍁 Autumn (Sep–Nov) The most stunning time of the year. The leaves turn vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red, contrasting beautifully with the emerald lakes—just like a painting. ⭐ Highly Recommended: Late September–Mid-October ❄️ Winter (Dec–Feb) Snow blankets the entire park, waterfalls freeze into ice cascades, and the atmosphere is quiet and romantic. Ideal for those who love the cold and snowy landscapes. 🍜 Must-Try Foods · Sichuan Hotpot · Yak Meat · Dan Dan Noodles · Tibetan Butter Tea · Tsampa 🗓️ Recommended 3-Day, 2-Night Itinerary 📍 Day 1: Arrive in Jiuzhaigou and rest up. 📍 Day 2: Full-day exploration of Jiuzhaigou National Park. 📍 Day 3: Visit Huanglong before heading back. 💚 If you want to experience Jiuzhaigou at its absolute best, we recommend visiting between late September and mid-October. The autumn foliage, the crisp weather, and the lake views are simply magnificent during this time.

#itinerarycheck I knew Huanglong was famous for its colorful pools, but I wasn't prepared for how the journey itself would become my favorite memory. I arrived early in the morning while the air was still cold and crisp. The higher elevation made every step feel a little slower, and instead of rushing ahead, I found myself taking breaks more often. At first, I was frustrated that I couldn't walk as fast as everyone else. Then I realized maybe this place wasn't meant to be explored in a hurry. The wooden boardwalk winds through forests before revealing one turquoise pool after another. Every time I thought I had seen the most beautiful one, another appeared around the corner. The colors looked almost unreal, yet standing there in silence made everything feel incredibly real. I stopped often—not just to catch my breath, but to listen. The sound of flowing water, the wind moving through the trees, and the quiet conversations of other visitors created a peaceful atmosphere that no photo could ever capture.

#itinerarycheck I dragged my totally out-of-shape self through every inch of this classic Huanglong one-day plan myself, no shortcuts, no cable car hacks I hid from you — this average tour-book itinerary is 100% doable, zero scams, zero overhyped traps, every single timing and tip checks out perfectly 🎒. ⏰ 6:30 AM: Depart Songpan / Jiuzhaigou Early Bird Bus 🚌 Hop on the pre-booked shared bus before 7 AM sharp, no snoozing allowed! · The 2.5-hour mountain drive wraps around cloud-kissing curves, you’ll catch golden sunrise spilling over the snow peaks outside the window 🌅 · Pro Remarks: Pop a motion sickness pill 30 mins before boarding, grab a hot soybean milk for the road, no cold drinks here — the mountain air will freeze your stomach instantly ❄️ · Skip the random roadside stalls drivers try to drag you to, they sell overpriced fake yak jerky for 3x the price 🚫 🎟️ 9:30 AM: Enter Huanglong Scenic Area (Upper Cable Car Route) 🚠 Swipe your pre-booked ticket, zip straight up the mountain on the cable car instead of hiking 3km upward first — save all your energy for the fun parts! · The 8-minute cable ride glides right over pine forests and distant snow-capped tops, the views hit different before you even step foot on the trail 🌲 · Pro Remarks: Don’t loiter at the cable car photo spot too long! The morning light hits the top pools perfectly between 10 and 11 AM, you’ll get zero washed-out ugly pics 📸 · Grab a free oxygen tank at the entry (they hand them out for cheap, no need to hoard 3 of them — 1 small one is more than enough) 🫁 🥾 10:15 AM: Downhill Hike from Cable Car Station to Five-Color Pond 🌈 Take the flat plank walkway downhill slowly, no rushing! It’s 2.9km total, super gentle zero steep climbs. · You’ll pass tiny hidden pools along the way, before you hit the star of the show — Five-Color Pond, the multi-hued water glows blue, green, and amber like someone spilled a paint box into it 🎨 · Pro Remarks: No running, no jumping! Altitude here is 3500+m, you’ll get lightheaded instantly if you sprint 🤕 · Don’t step off the wooden walkway to touch the pools — the water is super fragile, and park rangers fine you 500 RMB on the spot if they catch you 😬 🍜 12:30 PM: Lunch at Huanglong Top Self-Service Restaurant 🍲 Pop into the only big canteen near Five-Color Pond, grab the 60 RMB casual buffet. · It’s nothing fancy, but the hot stewed veggies and rice will refill all your energy after the hike, way better than cold instant noodles you stuffed in your bag 🥘 · Pro Remarks: Skip the hard-to-digest yak meat BBQ stalls outside, they’ll bloat you so bad you can’t finish the rest of the walk 🚫 · Sip your hot water slow, chugging too fast will make your altitude sickness flare up hard 🫖 🚶 13:45 PM: Downhill Stroll Along the Main Pool Belt 🛤️ Wander the 3km downhill plank path past all the iconic core spots: 1. Five-Color Calcareous Pond 2. Mirror Pool that perfectly reflects snow peaks 🪞 3. Flowing Water Pool 4. The grand 10000-Strata Gold Pools that stretch for hundreds of meters ✨ · Pro Remarks: This part is all downhill, super easy on your knees! You can stop for pics every 50 steps, no rush at all · The light hits these pools perfectly in the afternoon, you’ll get that viral crystal clear water shot everyone posts 📸 · Bring a thin waterproof jacket! Random misty drizzles pop out of nowhere here, don’t get soaked 💧 🚌 17:00 PM: Exit Scenic Area, Head Back on Return Bus 🌙 Swipe out at the lower park gate, the pre-booked return bus waits right there no extra waiting. · You’ll catch the golden sunset bleeding over Huanglong’s snow mountains on the ride back, way more pretty than the morning view 🌇 · Pro Remarks: Don’t book the last bus after 18:00 — mountain roads get dark super fast, it’s way riskier to drive at night 🌑 🎯 Final Verified Conclusion I Swear On My Hiking Boots 🥾 This classic old tour-book itinerary is not just theoretical — I walked every single step, tested every timing, and dodged all the silly fake hacks that go viral online. It’s not some over-the-top influencer secret route, but it’s 100% low altitude-sickness risk, no wasted energy, hits every single iconic spot without skipping anything. Even total newbies who never hike in their life can finish it no problem, no tragedy, no forced last-minute detours, absolutely worth every second of your day! 🏆💯 #travel2026 #travel #naturalwonders #thingstodo #staycation #myitinerary #couplestrip #familytravel #china #chinatravel #chinatrip #travelchina #nature #tripblazers

Chengdu is one of those cities that looks easy to plan at first. Pandas. Hot pot. Teahouses. Old streets. A few cultural sites. But the real question is not just: “What should I see in Chengdu?” The better question is: “How much of Sichuan do I actually want this trip to cover?” Because Chengdu can work in very different ways. It can be a short add-on from another China route. It can be a comfortable city break. It can be the base for one nearby extension. Or it can become the starting point for a bigger Sichuan scenery route toward Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. This guide is for choosing the right Chengdu itinerary length before you start adding places. 🌶️ Quick answer 3 days: best if Chengdu is a short add-on / stopover from another China route 4 days: best for a comfortable Chengdu city-focused trip 5 days: best for Chengdu + one nearby extension 7 days: best for a higher-effort Sichuan scenery route with Jiuzhaigou / Huanglong If you are already travelling in China, 3 days in Chengdu can make sense. If you are flying in mainly for Sichuan, 5–7 days usually gives a better payoff. But Jiuzhaigou / Huanglong should be treated as an advanced extension, not an easy Chengdu day trip. 🐼 Day 1: Arrival + easy Chengdu introduction Keep the first day simple. Good first-day route: Chunxi Road Taikoo Li Daci Temple area Simple Sichuan dinner Early rest if arriving late This is your soft landing day. If you arrive early, you can add a relaxed city walk. If you arrive late, do not force a packed sightseeing plan. Chengdu is best enjoyed with a slower rhythm, so Day 1 should help you settle in rather than exhaust you. 🐼 Day 2: Panda morning + slow Chengdu afternoon This is the classic first-timer Chengdu day. Morning: Chengdu Panda Base Afternoon: People’s Park teahouse or slower city area Evening: Wenshu area, local snacks or relaxed dinner The key is to do pandas earlier in the day and keep the afternoon lighter. Do not treat the panda base as a quick photo stop. Pairing it with tea, snacks and a slower neighbourhood makes the day feel much more Chengdu. 🏮 Day 3: Culture + old Chengdu Use Day 3 for Chengdu’s cultural side. Suggested route: Morning: Du Fu Thatched Cottage Afternoon: Wuhou Shrine Late afternoon / evening: Jinli area or nearby dinner This gives the day a poetry, history, garden and old-street atmosphere. The mistake is trying to rush every cultural stop just to collect names. A slower Chengdu culture day usually feels better than a packed checklist. 🍜 Day 4: Flexible Chengdu day This is the day that makes the trip feel comfortable. Use it as a pressure-release day. Option A: Food + tea Noodles Hot pot Teahouse Snacks Option B: Museum / culture Indoor time Slower history Easy dinner Option C: Shopping + rest Chunxi / Taikoo Li Cafés Lighter family day This day is useful because Chengdu is not only about attractions. A good Chengdu trip should leave space for food, tea, wandering and rest. Avoid filling the day by repeating too many similar old-street areas just because they look famous on a list. ⛰️ Day 5: One nearby extension For a 5-day itinerary, add one nearby extension. Not two. Not three. Choose one that fits your style. Dujiangyan / Qingcheng Mountain: classic Chengdu-area history + nature Sanxingdui: best for ancient Shu culture and museum lovers Leshan: bigger scenic / cultural stop, better with more buffer This is where many Chengdu itineraries become messy. One good extension is better than two rushed ones. The 5-day version is ideal if you want Chengdu city comfort plus one meaningful nearby trip. 🏔️ 7 days: Bigger Sichuan payoff If Chengdu is your main Sichuan base, the 7-day version is the most rewarding — but also higher effort. A realistic 7-day shape: Day 1: Arrive Chengdu + easy city walk Day 2: Panda Base + teahouse / slow city afternoon Day 3: Du Fu + Wuhou + Jinli Day 4: Flexible Chengdu food / tea / rest day Day 5: Chengdu → Huanglong / Jiuzhaigou area Visit Huanglong only if timing, weather and access work Day 6: Jiuzhaigou full day Day 7: Return to Chengdu or continue onward This route can be very rewarding because it combines Chengdu city, food, pandas and Sichuan scenery. But it is not the same as adding a simple day trip. Jiuzhaigou / Huanglong needs more transfer planning, weather awareness and buffer. Do not squeeze it into a rushed Chengdu city plan. 🧭 When 3 days makes sense A 3-day Chengdu trip is not wrong. It just depends on the trip context. It makes more sense when Chengdu is part of a larger China route, such as: Xi’an + Chengdu Chongqing + Chengdu Yunnan + Chengdu Gansu / Northwest China + Chengdu Another China city trip + Chengdu food and pandas In that case, Chengdu can work as a short but satisfying add-on. But if Chengdu is the main reason you are flying into Sichuan, 3 rushed days may feel too short. 📍 Where to stay in Chengdu For most first-timers, choose a base that reduces wasted time. Chunxi / Taikoo Li: best for food, shopping, transport convenience and first-timer ease Tianfu Square / central area: good central city base People’s Park / Qingyang side: slower city feel Wenshu area: calmer food-and-temple neighbourhood feel A convenient base matters more if you are adding side trips. Do not choose somewhere far away just to save a little if it creates daily friction. 🚗 Transport, family and season logic Plan Chengdu by clusters, not random pins. A smoother route is better than a longer attraction list. For families: Do pandas in the morning Keep afternoons lighter Build in snack breaks Avoid changing hotels too often Keep transfer days simple For Jiuzhaigou / Huanglong: check current weather, route conditions and access allow buffer avoid planning the route too tightly The best Chengdu itinerary is not the one with the most stops. It is the one that feels smooth. ⚠️ Common Chengdu planning mistakes Treating Chengdu as only a panda stop Flying in mainly for Sichuan but giving it only 3 rushed days Repeating too many similar old-street areas Planning pandas too late in the day Adding too many side trips Treating Jiuzhaigou like an easy Chengdu day trip Ignoring buffer for Huanglong / Jiuzhaigou Choosing a hotel base that adds daily friction The main mistake is not deciding the role of Chengdu first. Is it a stopover? A city break? A food-and-culture base? Or the start of a bigger Sichuan route? That answer should decide the itinerary length. ✅ My first-timer recommendation Choose 3 days if Chengdu is an add-on from another China route. Choose 4 days if you want a comfortable Chengdu city trip. Choose 5 days if you want Chengdu plus one nearby extension. Choose 7 days if you want the bigger Sichuan scenery payoff with Jiuzhaigou / Huanglong and can handle the extra transfer time. For Chengdu city itself, 4 days is a comfortable first-timer pace. For a more complete Sichuan trip, 7 days is stronger. But do not treat the 7-day route as “easy.” It is worth it only if you allow time, energy and buffer. Chengdu is not just pandas and hot pot. It is also one of the best gateways into Sichuan. Save this if Chengdu is on your China travel list. Send this to someone planning a Sichuan trip. Follow for more practical travel cheat sheets. #Chengdu #ChinaTravel #Sichuan #Jiuzhaigou #TravelCheatSheet

Many people mention that the high-speed train from Chengdu to Huanglong Jiuzhai only takes about 2 hours. While that's true, the total journey from central Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou is much longer. Here's my actual travel timeline: · 2:24 PM – Took Bus 54 from KuanZai Alley · 3:11 PM – Arrived at Chengdu West Railway Station (成都西站) · 4:02 PM – D280 Fuxing High-Speed Train departed · 6:17 PM – Arrived at Huanglong Jiuzhai Railway Station (黄龙九寨站) · 6:44 PM – Official shuttle bus departed · 7:14 PM – Short restroom stop at a grocery store · 8:42 PM – Arrived at Moon Bay, Jiuzhaigou The total journey took about 6 hours 20 minutes, from leaving Chengdu until arriving in Jiuzhaigou. For planning purposes, I would recommend allowing 6–7 hours instead of only looking at the 2-hour train journey. Tips from my experience: · Chengdu East Railway Station has more train departures, but I chose West Station as I stayed near Kuanzhai Alley. The smaller station was easier to navigate, and the 51 minutes before departure gave me enough time to use the restroom, refill my water bottle, complete the manual passport check, and walk to the platform without rushing. · If you're a foreign traveller, reserve the official shuttle bus through Tripcom in advance. You'll receive your boarding details beforehand and avoid the confusion of choosing transport after arriving at Huanglong Jiuzhai Railway Station, where several options and solicitors await outside the station. #chinatravel #transportationguide #sichuan #chengdutravel

In May 2024, I lived out my dream trip to Jiuzhaigou. Honestly, photo filters are completely useless against Mother Nature's masterpiece here! 🚆 Leg 1: Travel & Rest For our trip, we took the high-speed train from Chengdu to Zhenjiangguan Station, then caught a carpool to the Huanglong-Jiuzhaigou area. The winding roads through the majestic mountains looked straight out of a movie. Day one was mostly about traveling, so we just checked into our hotel and rested up to recharge. 🏞️ Leg 2: A Full Day Immersed in Jiuzhaigou The next day was an absolute blast as we fully immersed ourselves in the pristine wilderness. What blew my mind the most was the crystal-clear emerald water—you could literally see right through to the ancient tree trunks at the bottom of the lakes. The water comes from melting snow high up in the mountains. As it flows through the limestone, it dissolves tons of carbonate minerals. Combined with the algae at the bottom of the lakes, it creates a natural "light filter" that reflects magical shades of blue and green whenever the sunlight hits it. ⚖️ Huanglong vs. Jiuzhaigou: Similar Yet Different While both are nestled in the mountains and boast crystal-clear waters, each has its own distinct vibe: Huanglong: Delicate and intricate, featuring terraced pools that look like "emerald steps," sparkling like jewels scattered across the forest. Jiuzhaigou: Expansive and magnificent, with "vast, sprawling lakes" that are as smooth as glass, perfectly mirroring the sky and the primeval forest. It was an exhausting trip, but worth every single second. If you're looking for a getaway from the hustle and bustle in your youth, pack your bags for Jiuzhaigou right now!

Going to Aba in March, I bet you'll totally win on your social media! ✨ Just got back from Western Sichuan and put together a super comprehensive guide, ladies, just copy it directly~ Location Aba is in northwest Sichuan, about a 4-6 hour drive from Chengdu. This place is like a battleground of natural wonders—Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, Siguniang Mountain, Lianbaoyeze… every name is a beauty icon! 🏔️ Going in March means you can still catch the tail end of the snow scenery, fewer crowds, stunning views, and great value. 🍜 Food Recommendations Food lovers, unite! Aba’s cuisine is truly amazing~ 1️⃣ Yak Meat Hotpot: I ate at “Xueyu Tibetan Restaurant” in Songpan Ancient Town two days in a row! The broth is made from Tibetan herbs and wild mushrooms, insanely fresh. Don’t forget to dip some barley cakes in the soup, it’s irresistibly fragrant! 2️⃣ Butter Tea + Zanba: Might be an acquired taste at first, but eating zanba by hand with the tea gets addictive. 3️⃣ Tibetan Yogurt: Sold by grandmas roadside for just 5 yuan a bowl, tangy, sweet, and thick—sprinkle some sugar and it’s perfect. 4️⃣ Monk’s Steamed Buns: A must-try at Songpan Night Market! Thin skin, lots of filling, and bursting with juice when you bite. 🏠 Accommodation Tips Booking on Trip.com, these places won’t disappoint: · Jiuzhaigou Entrance: Choose Tibetan-style guesthouses in Zhangzha Town, within 15 minutes walk to the park, off-season around 200+ RMB per person, and you can even try on Tibetan costumes for photos. · Songpan Ancient Town: “Guyunge” Tibetan courtyard has bonfire parties at night, great atmosphere. · Aba County: Hanting Hotel is super convenient, close to Gerdeng Monastery, and has oxygen facilities to help with altitude sickness. 🚗 Itinerary Plan (4 days 3 nights lazy version) Day1: Chengdu → Bipenggou (see ice waterfall + snow mountains) → stay in Lixian Day2: Lixian → Lianbaoyeze (photo at the magical stone forest) → stay in Aba County Day3: Aba County → Gemo Monastery / Langyi Monastery (shoot morning mist) → sunset at the First Bend of the Yellow River → stay in Tangke Day4: Ruoergai Grassland → Songpan Ancient Town (eat, eat, eat) → back to Chengdu ⚠️ March 8th is Women’s Day and many attractions are free! Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, and Siguniang Mountain are free for women, remember to book in advance on the “Aba Tourism” mini program. 📸 Photo Spots · Jiuzhaigou: Winter’s blue ice and ice waterfalls are stunning! Nuorilang Waterfall looks like a giant crystal curtain when frozen, and Five Flower Lake’s colors are unreal. · Lianbaoyeze: Known as the “Eastern Lord of the Rings,” with strange peaks, unique stones, snow mountains, and lakes—wear bright clothes for epic shots. · Back Mountain of Langyi Monastery: A hidden gem! Morning mist at sunrise, golden temple faintly visible, very magical. · Swallow Rock in Bipenggou: Alpine meadow at 3800m altitude, snow mountains, forests, and lakes all in one frame—every shot looks like a Windows desktop. ⚠️ Pitfall Warnings 1️⃣ Huge temperature difference between morning and night in March! Down jacket + snow boots are lifesavers, bring plenty of warm packs. 2️⃣ Plateau sun protection essentials: sunglasses, hat, sunscreen—the UV is so strong it’s unbelievable. 3️⃣ Some restaurants only accept cash, prepare about 500 yuan in small bills just in case. 4️⃣ Respect local customs: don’t step on temple thresholds, spin prayer wheels clockwise. 5️⃣ If driving yourself, definitely install snow chains! Mountain roads have hidden ice patches, safety first. 😭 A Tough Experience Climbing the 1314-step trail at Lianbaoyeze at 4200m altitude, I truly felt what it means to have “eyes in heaven but body in hell”—every three steps I had to stop gasping like a dog, my head buzzing, but when I saw the sacred lake Zhaga’erco, it was totally worth it! 💔 💭 Personal Thoughts The most touching moment of this trip was meeting a grandma selling yak yogurt in Songpan Ancient Town. She didn’t speak Mandarin but kept smiling and gesturing for me to add more sugar. Aba’s beauty isn’t just in the scenery, but in these warm moments~ If you have any questions, just ask! And if any experts have better routes or hidden gems, see you in the comments! 👇

Day 1 After work departure 🚅 Chongqing North 19:12 → Chengdu East 21:06 🏠 Accommodation: Stay near Chengdu East Station, there are many places to eat and shop around CapitaMall. ❗️ Be sure to prepare snacks and a water cup! Rest for one night and set off early the next day. Day 2 Visit Huanglong 🚅 Chengdu East 8:12 → Huanglong Jiuzhaigou 10:01 After getting off the train, follow the crowd upstairs and take the bus on the right side. Buy bus tickets in advance on "Aba Tourism." You can choose to go to Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou; if there are many people, you can carpool. Hiring a local driver is safer and they know the roads well. 🚌 10:20 Bus ¥28/person, about 1 hour to arrive. Method: Cable car up 🚡, hike down 🚶 for an efficient tour. Huanglong is prone to altitude sickness, so it’s recommended to take the cable car. ※ If you need to store luggage, get off when the driver calls for hikers, store luggage for free behind the service hall, then take the free sightseeing bus from the queue area to the cable car station. Otherwise, you’ll have to make a round trip like we did. 🎫 Tickets: 170/person + cable car up 80/person + sightseeing bus one way 15/person. 💊 The scenery is really beautiful, but altitude sickness is tough. You can buy Rhodiola and oxygen in advance, but we managed without. We walked and took photos for over 4 hours, then picked up luggage around 5 pm. 🚌 Depart for Jiuzhaigou, the official bus stops by the roadside. You can buy tickets online or from the driver on site. Carpooling is more convenient with more people. 🏠 Accommodation: Near Guoda parking lot, closer to the scenic area but fewer food options. On the way, places like Moon Bay have more lively food options. 🥩 We randomly entered a hot pot restaurant to warm up. The owner of Da Niu Wang Yak Soup was very friendly and even gave us yak yogurt. Finally, a warm meal for the day. Day 3 Jiuzhaigou One-Day Tour Jiuzhaigou opens at 8:30. In the off-season, a late start is okay; the park’s scheduling is very efficient. 🎫 160/person There are luggage lockers at the entrance: large 15, small 10. Take the shuttle bus inside the park. In the off-season, it goes directly to the highest point without stopping at Shuzheng Village. We randomly got off at the highest point on the right line. Tour order: Arrow Bamboo Lake → Panda Lake → Five Flower Lake → Pearl Shoal Waterfall → Nuorilang Transfer Center → (left line) Long Lake → Five Color Pool → take the bus back to Nuorilang Center for lunch → Nuorilang Waterfall → then head back. Return: In the off-season, carpooling for the daytime return only needs about 2 hours reserved. We waited 1 hour in the waiting hall for a free ride. 🚕 Carpool 80/person, ride-hailing apps are cheaper but still about 80 to get on. 🚅 Huanglong Jiuzhaigou High-Speed Rail Station 18:19 → Chengdu East Station 20:39 ¥140/person 🚅 Chengdu East Station 21:32 → Chongqing North Station 22:58 ¥161/person Tips: Wear light and warm clothes. It’s hot climbing under the sun but cold after sunset. Be sure to wear a hat and scarf for warmth and good photos. Huanglong is very cold; many places are already frozen. Jiuzhaigou’s grilled sausage is really delicious!

Jiuzhaigou off-peak guide|Avoid the crowds and unnecessary detours! Who understands, family! Even going to Jiuzhaigou on a non-holiday, non-weekend, there was still a half-hour queue 😭. I've put together a super thoughtful itinerary + pitfall avoidance guide, follow it to have fun without getting tired and get great shots~ 🚗 Itinerary: Take the high-speed train from Chengdu directly to Huanglong, then transfer for 2 hours by car to Jiuzhaigou. The transportation is super convenient! No detours, saving time, focusing on an efficient trip~ ⚠️ Pitfalls to avoid: Queuing in the scenic area is really unavoidable! Even if you go off-peak, it’s recommended to rush early; every minute less waiting counts. The whole 4 kilometers may seem short, but it’s really tiring to walk! Be sure to take the free shuttle bus between scenic spots, don’t tough it out. Save your energy to enjoy the core attractions, isn’t that better? 🌟 Must-see core attractions: · Five-Color Pool: Jiuzhaigou’s smallest but most vibrant lake, the water looks like a spilled palette, blue and green intertwined, stunningly beautiful. · Five-Flower Lake: The essence of Jiuzhaigou! The water has amazing layers, sparkling under the sunlight, every shot is wallpaper-worthy. · Sparkling Lake: In the morning mist or sunset, the lake surface glimmers with tiny lights, like scattered stars, creating a full atmosphere. 📷 Photo tips: Wear colorful hats and scarves! The contrast with the blue-green water is super photogenic, instantly becoming the photo’s focus, doubling your chances of great shots~

A journey to the breathtaking Huanglong Scenic Area, nestled high in the mountains of Sichuan, China, at around 3,500 meters above sea level. 🏔️ Our adventure began with a cable car ride up the mountain, followed by a scenic shuttle ride and a walk of approximately 1 km to reach the stunning Five-Color Ponds.🏞️ Surrounded by majestic mountains and golden limestone terraces, we were rewarded with crystal-clear turquoise pools in the most incredible shades of blue and green. 💙💚 The journey was a little challenging at this altitude, but every step was worth it. Nature’s beauty at its finest! ✨

This itinerary packs in scenic gems, perfect for seekers of nature, culture, and breathtaking photos! Start early at Huanglong Oxygen Bar inside the national park (阿坝藏族羌族自治州松潘县平松路附近黄龙国家地质公园内, 08:00–18:00)—the ideal spot for acclimatizing to altitude with gentle strolls and fresh mountain air. Next, wander to Huanglong Ancient Temple (黄龙寺, 松潘), open 08:00–16:00, and soak up tranquil Tibetan-inspired vibes. Don’t miss a few serene snaps of the temple framed by misty peaks! Venture north to Primeval Forest (open 09:00–17:00) for lush greenery and quiet paths. This deep woodland is a top-notch “forest bath”—perfect for mindfulness and dramatic photos featuring mossy trunks and sunlight rays. Midday, head to Suoluo Yingcai Pond (黄龙寺, 松潘), where glass-clear waters reflect the magical surroundings (08:00–18:00). For the ultimate “insta-worthy” shot, capture the Moon-Reflecting Colorful Pool (阿坝藏族羌族自治州松潘县平松路附近黄龙国家地质公园内). Both pools gleam with rainbow hues; best light is between 10:00 and 14:00. Tips: Altitude can sneak up—hydrate well and bring snacks. Layer your clothing, weather in Huanglong changes fast! The trails can be slippery after rain, so sturdy shoes are a must. #Chengdu #Songpan #Huanglong #NatureEscape #PhotoAdventure

If you love raw, otherworldly natural scenery that feels almost unreal, Huanglong Scenic Area in Sichuan is hands down one of China’s most underrated natural wonders. This UNESCO World Heritage Site completely exceeded my expectations, and my hiking day here turned into one of my most memorable travel stories this year. I’ve always heard people rave about Jiuzhaigou’s lakes, but few international travelers talk about Huanglong’s unique travertine landscape. It is home to the world’s largest high-altitude terraced pool clusters, with over three thousand natural ponds winding down the mountain like scattered gemstones. Unlike deep mountain lakes, these shallow mineral pools shift colors constantly — bright turquoise, mint blue, and soft emerald green — changing shades with sunlight, clouds, and viewing angles. My visit came with a funny yet useful travel lesson I want to share. I underestimated the high altitude and brought regular sealed snacks. Halfway up the trail, my chip bags unexpectedly popped open due to air pressure changes! It was silly and surprising, but it taught me how special and extreme Huanglong’s highland environment truly is. I also took my time hiking slowly to avoid altitude sickness, which let me fully soak in every stunning view along the way. The iconic Five-Color Ponds at the mountain top are absolutely breathtaking. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and dense ancient forests, the layered terraced ponds look like a natural oil painting. The golden calcium terraces stretch like a giant dragon’s back, which explains the name “Huanglong” (Golden Dragon). Standing here, I could easily understand why locals call it the “Earthly Jade Pool of immortals”. What I love most about Huanglong is its pure, untouched beauty. There are no over-commercialized stalls or noisy crowds. Just fresh alpine air, quiet valleys, and nature’s slow, stunning craftsmanship built over thousands of years. Taking the cable car up and hiking down was the perfect route, letting me capture panoramic views and discover tiny hidden pools along the footpath. Huanglong proves that the best natural gems often need a little effort to reach. Quick question for fellow travelers! Have you ever had a funny altitude surprise on a mountain trip? Do you prefer Huanglong’s colorful terraced pools or Jiuzhaigou’s classic deep lake scenery? #travelersvoice #chinatravelcircle
