The only remnant of the city walls of Illescas
Spanish Central Plateau Adventure ~ Toledo (Region)
This gate leading into the town walls of Illescas was built after the Christian conquest of the territory in the 11th and 12th centuries. Due to the instability and growing population of the time, he established fortifications that also allowed for the inspection and control of goods and people from the surrounding estates. To this end, he surrounded the area with a wall with five entrances: the Madrid Gate, the Toledo Gate, the Talavera Gate, the Sol Gate, and the Urgena Gate. The latter has been partially preserved, and its current appearance reflects the restoration undertaken in 1995.

It features a Latin cross plan without transepts, consisting of three naves with side chapels and an inner nave with ribbed, star-shaped, and geometric vaulting. From the outside, its tower is striking, with Mudéjar-style ornamentation of leaf arches and arcades.
