The forecast is unreliable—one moment it’s clear, the next a sudden storm hits. Especially in Jinggangshan and mountain scenic spots, heavy rain shuts down cable cars, skywalks, and hiking trails. Driving miles into the mountains only to turn back wastes time and money. Plus, summer heat in Jian is unbearable, with city temperatures often 35℃–40℃ and very humid. Yanfang Village is another traditional village in Ji'an, a 4A scenic area and a national historic and cultural village. It feels slightly larger than Diaoyuan Ancient Village, with more than 160 surviving traditional buildings. The village is mostly inhabited by people with the surname Yan, so the original name was probably Yan Fang, which later evolved into Yanfang. The village still has ancestral halls, old schools, paifang archways, residences, and ancient tombs. The ancient camphor and maple trees behind the village and the old well and pond in front blend with the settlement, forming a typical Gan-style architectural complex. Yanfang Village also offers rural tourism, but compared with Diaoyuan Ancient Village, it feels more untouched. The attraction is open and does not charge an entrance fee. There is a parking lot by the village, which is convenient, and you can park and stroll into the village. Visiting in December, it was the low season. Arriving in the evening, apart from an RV in the parking lot and its owner cooking, there were no other visitors. Walking through the ancient village is quiet, and villagers are going about their daily lives. Many old houses have their gates tightly shut and may have been uninhabited for a long time. Because of rural tourism, the village roads are in good condition and there are plenty of signs. The village paths are "crooked," with no straight alleys, and the gates stand at angles. Don't rely on navigation; getting lost is the right way to experience it. Accessible by bus 203, 18 km from the city center, admission is CNY 40. Wear soft-soled shoes; the bluestone slabs are uneven. Tip 2: Meipi Ancient Village, make sure to stay until evening. Admission is free, but many people leave after visiting during the day. When the lanterns light up around 5:00 or 6:00 PM, the whole village glows red—that's when it's truly beautiful.
