All Trip Moments about Kuching | Travel Experiences
Don’t Ignore Kuching
When most Singaporeans think about a weekend getaway, they usually think of Bangkok, Penang or even Japan.
Very few think about Kuching.
That’s a mistake.
Just 90 minutes from Singapore, Kuching offers one of the easiest international escapes you can take. At S$139 return, it’s also one of the best-value flights I’ve seen recently.
But the airfare is only part of the story.
Kuching rewards travellers who enjoy slowing down.
Start your mornings with Sarawak laksa or kolo mee in old-school coffee shops. Wander along the scenic waterfront in the evening. Visit centuries-old temples, browse local markets, or head out to nearby rainforests and wildlife reserves.
Unlike many popular destinations, you won’t spend your trip fighting crowds or queuing for every meal.
It’s a different side of Malaysia—more relaxed, more authentic, and surprisingly underrated.
I’ve always believed the best trips aren’t necessarily the ones everyone is talking about.
Sometimes they’re the ones hiding in plain sight.

LEGACY HILL HOTEL KUCHING
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Legacy Hill Hotel is a beautifully renovated hotel located in the heart of Kuching. The hotel has a unique design, and although the lobby is simple, it feels modern, elegant, and very relaxing.
One thing that really stood out was the excellent service. The two ladies at the front desk were always friendly and polite. Every time we walked past the reception, they would greet us with a warm smile, making us feel genuinely welcomed throughout our stay.
We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. Our room didn’t have a hairdryer, so we requested one and it was provided promptly. We also found the pillows a little too soft, and when we asked for two extra pillows, the staff happily accommodated our request. The next day, housekeeping cleaned our room and replaced the bed linens and towels.
The room was very clean and comfortable. The air conditioning was cold, the water pressure was excellent, and although the room wasn’t very large, it was more than sufficient for us. Considering the price, I was very satisfied with the overall value.
Another plus is that there are plenty of parking spaces beside the hotel, making it very convenient for guests who drive. There are also many great local eateries and cafés within walking distance.
Overall, this hotel offers excellent value for money, and I will definitely choose Legacy Hill Hotel again the next time I visit Kuching.
Kuching is a charming city that blends history, culture, nature, and local experiences. During this trip, I explored the unique side of Sarawak’s capital — from heritage streets and museums to wildlife encounters and relaxing river views.
1. The Marian
A stylish boutique hotel that combines modern comfort with heritage charm. Its convenient location makes it a great base for exploring Kuching’s attractions and local food spots.
2. Harmony Arch (Carpenter Street / Old Town)
Located at the entrance of Kuching’s historic area, Harmony Arch represents the multicultural heritage of the city. Surrounded by traditional shophouses and old streets, it is a great photo spot and a perfect starting point to explore Kuching’s old town.
3. Borneo Cultures Museum
One of Kuching’s must-visit attractions. The museum showcases Sarawak’s diverse cultures, indigenous communities, history, and traditions through interesting and interactive exhibitions.
4. Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building
One of Kuching’s most iconic landmarks. The unique architecture and riverside location create a beautiful backdrop for photography, especially during sunset.
5. Semenggoh Nature Reserve
One of the highlights of my Kuching trip. The reserve is famous for its semi-wild orangutans, where visitors may have the chance to observe these amazing creatures during feeding sessions in their rainforest environment. A meaningful experience for anyone who wants to connect with Borneo’s unique wildlife.
6. Royal Kuching Cruise
A relaxing way to experience Kuching from the Sarawak River. The evening cruise offers beautiful views of the city skyline, bridges, and landmarks along the river.
Overall, Kuching surprised me with its peaceful atmosphere, rich cultural heritage, and incredible wildlife experiences. It is a destination that shows a different and more authentic side of Malaysia, making it a place worth visiting.

The Old Courthouse of Kuching — Echoes of the White Rajahs
Tucked away in the historic heart of Kuching, the Old Courthouse is one of the city's most elegant and tranquil heritage landmarks.
Originally established in 1874, the complex once served as Sarawak's administrative and judicial center. Its architecture reflects a fascinating blend of influences: Roman-inspired colonial civic design paired with locally sourced hardwood roofs adapted to the tropical climate. The result is a building that feels distinctly British, yet unmistakably Bornean.
Walking through its shaded courtyards today, it is hard to imagine that decisions affecting an entire kingdom were once made here. The atmosphere is remarkably peaceful, making it one of the most serene corners of Kuching.
The courthouse is also closely tied to the remarkable story of James Brooke and the Brooke dynasty. For 104 years, from 1842 to 1946, three generations of the Brooke family ruled Sarawak as the White Rajahs—an extraordinary chapter in Southeast Asian history and one of the few examples of a personal kingdom established by a European family overseas.
📍 Location: Old Courthouse
🏛️ Built: 1874
🌿 Style: Colonial civic architecture with local Bornean elements
👑 Historical connection: The Brooke dynasty and the White Rajahs of Sarawak
📸 Signature feeling: Quiet, elegant, and steeped in history
Among Kuching's many heritage buildings, the Old Courthouse feels less like a monument and more like a hidden courtyard where history still lingers in the shade. 🌿🏛️✨

Kuching × CHAGEE 🍵☁️
An evening stroll
Kuching is one of those cities best explored without a plan.
A slow walk through heritage streets, dramatic evening skies, and peaceful riverside views eventually led me to the highlight of the day — CHAGEE Taman Sahabat.
And honestly, this might be the most beautiful CHAGEE in Southeast Asia.
Set within a stunning Chinese-inspired building, the branch feels more like a cultural pavilion than a tea shop. The traditional rooflines, spacious courtyard, warm lighting, and elegant wooden interiors create an atmosphere that’s both grand and welcoming.
As dusk settles over Kuching, the building comes alive. The glowing facade, open public square, and relaxed local crowd make it a destination in its own right rather than just a stop for tea.
Inside, high ceilings and thoughtfully designed spaces invite you to slow down, take a break, and enjoy the moment. Whether you’re a CHAGEE fan or simply appreciate beautiful architecture, this branch is worth the visit.
A cup of tea, a beautiful evening, and one of Kuching’s most unexpected gems.
📍 CHAGEE Taman Sahabat, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia 🇲🇾
✨ Possibly the most beautiful CHAGEE in ASEAN.

Landed at KCH on a comfy MAS flight—grab car rides are a breeze and it’s only a 15–20 min zip to The Everly Lhesson Kuching, the city’s standout hotel right inside Vivacity Megamall (Jalan Wan Alwi). Hotel service here is next-level: staff are super friendly, rooms are spacious and spotless, and you get pretty sweet city views for those chill-out moments after a trip. 🏨
Top Spots to Visit:

2. Borneo Convention Centre Kuching/BCCK (Demak-Isthmus Bridge, Jalan Keruing) – Just 15 mins’ drive from the hotel. If there’s an event on your radar, this modern spot is worth checking out, plus the architecture makes for awesome pics- I’m there for event fyi…
3. Vivacity Megamall – All things food and fun under one roof! Feast at Haidilao for hotpot or hit 有间面馆 for some legit Sarawak noodles. 🍲

Vibrant State
Malaysian Borneo is seriously next-level when it comes to adventure vibes! 🏝️ This slice of paradise is split between two vibrant states: Sabah and Sarawak. Both are infamous (in a good way!) for being a total biodiversity hotspot—if you’re after dramatic rainforests, rare wildlife, and epic cultural experiences, this is the place.
Sabah is where you'll discover orangutans swinging in the wild at places like the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (Jalan Sepilok, 90000 Sandakan, Sabah), and the jaw-dropping summit of Mount Kinabalu (Kinabalu Park, 89300 Ranau, Sabah), with views that are seriously 🤯.
Sarawak brings major explorer energy! Wander through the world's largest cave chamber at Gunung Mulu National Park (Gunung Mulu, 98007 Miri, Sarawak), or groove with indigenous vibes in the bustling city of Kuching (don’t miss the Sarawak Cultural Village, Pantai Damai, 93050 Kuching, Sarawak, open daily 9am-5pm).
Both states have monsoon-free stretches roughly from March to October—prime time for adventure and epic wildlife spotting. Pro tip: anchor your stays in Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) or Kuching (Sarawak), then day-trip from there!
Ready to swap ordinary for the extraordinary? Malaysian Borneo is calling—and trust me, your camera roll will thank you! Check trip.com for all the inspo and deals you need to kick off your wildest travel dreams.

The Golden Bridge in Kuching
The Darul Hana Bridge, Kuching’s iconic “Golden Bridge” (or the swoon-worthy “S Bridge” to locals), is an absolute must-see in Sarawak’s capital! 💫 Before it got its official name, everyone was calling it the “Golden Bridge” for its stunning design and the way it glows at sunset. Total photo op moment! 📸
You’ll find it right at the Kuching Waterfront —it stretches gracefully across the Sarawak River, connecting both sides of the city and serving up epic views from every angle. Whether you’re vibing with the cityscape by day or soaking in those dreamy night lights, this place totally slaps for an evening stroll.
Opening hours: Open 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM daily. It is completely free to enter. So you can get the golden hour or late-night views whenever your wanderlust hits! 🚶♂️🌉
Don’t miss a walk here while in Kuching.

Kuching Airport Vibes✈️
A Modern Oasis Near Kuching Airport
Raia Hotel & Convention Center Kuching stands out immediately due to its bold, futuristic architecture. As captured in my photos, the building features a massive, intricate web of industrial steel support beams that frame the entire complex, creating a highly photogenic and grand atmosphere.
One of the property's biggest selling points is its ultra-convenient location relative to the Kuching International Airport. As clearly visible in the background of my pic, the airport runway and terminal are just a stone's throw away. This makes it an absolute haven for business travelers, transit passengers, or anyone looking to cut down on travel stress. Despite its close proximity to the tarmac, the rooms remain remarkably quiet and well-insulated.
Looking down from the upper levels, as shown in the picture, the hotel features an inviting outdoor swimming pool flanked by comfortable lounge chairs—a refreshing escape from the Sarawak heat. The central courtyard, boasts a beautifully designed drop-off zone with a circular fountain centerpiece and geometric glass canopies.
🗺️ 3-Day Kuching Itinerary & Travel Tips
Because the hotel sits right by the airport, accessing both nature reserves and the vibrant city center is incredibly straightforward via local ride-hailing apps like Grab.
Day 1: Check-in, head downtown (15-20 minutes away) to cross the iconic Darul Hana Bridge, stroll the Main Bazaar, and enjoy an authentic Sarawak Laksa.
Day 2: Take a morning trip to see the orangutans at Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, then spend the afternoon exploring the Sarawak Cultural Village. Unwind by the hotel pool in the evening.
Day 3: Enjoy local cafe hopping, buy some Kek Lapis (layer cake), and enjoy a stress-free check-out since your departure terminal is just a 5-minute drive away.

The Role of Rivers for Sarawak and Kuching
Don't you agree that rivers are the source of life? Many cities have grown and developed along rivers, and Kuching is one of them. In Kuching, rivers play a crucial role. Therefore, the riverbanks have become a bustling hub, serving not only as the seat of government but also as a bustling area for visitors from all over the world. That's why, when anyone asks for accommodation recommendations in Kuching, I always suggest booking in the Waterfront area. One such hotel is the Hilton Kuching. This hotel has a super strategic location, not far from the Kuching Waterfront. If you want to explore the historic area and find legendary dining options in Kuching, the Hilton Kuching could be the best choice.
So, when are you going to Kuching?

Bako-Kuching Wild Trails🌿
Took a 6am boat to Bako National Park, totally worth it!Even though it rained heavily on the way to the park, the rain stopped just as we started our trails!
We saw so much wildlife! Guess what! We were welcomed by a group of Bornean Bearded pigs! 🐖
Tips:
Contact the boat company a day before your trip (otherwise you may have to wait for the tide to enter into the park)
💧Bring enough water and some energy bar
☀️ Put on sunscreen
🚗 Driving or go by public transport (sometime its not easy to book a cab back to city)
⏰ Visitor who are not staying overnight have to leave the park before 3pm (We choose 6am because the captain told us the next boat would only be at 11am)
Happy exploring 🥳🥳

Must-See Places in Kuching
Sip & Snap at CHAGEE @ Taman Sahabat
Start in Taman Sahabat, Jalan Song. This premium tea spot (CHAGEE) is great for chilling—grab a cool fruit tea before your next walk. The park’s Chinese architecture and gardens are ultra-Instagrammable, especially in sunny weather.
Stroll Along Kuching Waterfront
Nothing beats a riverside walk at Kuching Waterfront (7, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, 93100 Kuching; Open 24/7). Whether it’s sunrise, sunset, or even on a moody cloudy day, the river views are dreamy. Watch locals fish, spot cute cat statues, and catch open-air performances if you’re lucky.
Eat Big at KANTIN at The Granary
Don’t miss this: head to 23, Wayang St, 93000 Kuching and order the Sotong Baker at Kantin the Granary. A grilled squid with dipping sauce, served in a bamboo basket—honestly, it’s the best thing I ate all trip. The Western-style and modern architecture vibe makes for a chill meal (perfect for foodies and photo geeks).
Getting Around
Use Grab or local taxi apps for easy, affordable rides. Kuching’s compact city center means walking between spots is super doable in decent weather.
