#0yentrip There are several ferries going from Hiroshima to Matsuyama, and more than half of them are now newly built and operate under the names Sea Paseo and Sea Paseo 2. This ship is truly the most recommended of all the ferries I have been on in Japan. The interior is simply beautiful and has a wonderful design, and there is also a rooftop deck, as well as a counter where you can order udon noodles, rice balls, and more. I ordered and ate udon noodles on board. Feeling the rocking of the ship and gazing at the sea while eating warm udon noodles was a particularly memorable part of the trip. The atmosphere on board was calm, and I was able to relax despite the long journey.

𓇠✈︎ "Mitarai Preservation District" on a remote island in Hiroshima A road trip while island hopping on the Tobishima Kaido The port town of Mitarai was designated by the government as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 1994 It is also a filming location for Drive My Car There were posters of the movie starring Hidetoshi Nishijima and the red Saab, which was filmed here, hanging in the town There were many cafes and restaurants that we stopped by while strolling around the port town, and many photogenic spots! 📍Shiomachikan The interior was retro with a Showa era feel, and the pudding bowls were cute 📍Funayado Cafe Wakanaga A cafe renovated from a building that used to be a boathouse. When you think of Kure in Hiroshima, "The Blood of Wolves" comes to mind, so we stayed at the very hotel used during the filming. It's the exact spot where the Yacchare-kai was held. And yes, it even has that terrifying bathroom where Ichinose was arrested at the end🚻 Take a bus from Hiroshima Airport and get off at [Hondori 3-chome]🚎 It's just a short walk from there. We took the final flight into Hiroshima✈️ Our flight was delayed, so I was worried we'd miss the last bus, but they actually waited for us to make up for the delay😮💨 We didn't check in until around 11 PM, but the staff was so welcoming, which we really appreciated. The hotel has been renovated since they filmed the movie, so it was really clean and modern. The kids absolutely loved the bunk-bed-style room😊 Thanks to the renovations, the large public bath—though not huge—was incredibly clean and relaxing. I recently visited the Yamato Museum, which just reopened in late April after renovations! The museum has a very clean and uncluttered layout, making the exhibits easy to view. The 1/10 scale model of the battleship Yamato, which you see after your ticket is checked, is truly impressive. It's overwhelming to think that it's only 1/10th the size! There were also exhibits detailing the background of the Yamato's construction and interviews with people who actually served on it, allowing me to gain a detailed understanding of battleship history. Some exhibits were even touchable, which was a nice touch, making it enjoyable for children as well. Personally, I was deeply moved to see the actual flag from the battleship Nagato, which Koji Ishizaka purchased with his own money after appearing on the TV show "Antiques Roadshow"! I also took a photo with the Shinkai, located outside the museum! The torii gate and shrine pavilions that appear to float on the water are absolutely stunning—a true scenic masterpiece. And the deer you meet while strolling around the island🦌 They're so friendly and adorable; it was such a therapeutic time…♡ On our final day, we ventured a little further to Yamaguchi✨ Iwakuni City First, we hopped on the ropeway to Iwakuni Castle🏯 The view from the top was amazing, giving us a little sense of adventure. Next, we paid a visit to Iwakuni Shrine, and wrapped up our trip right here👇 Kintaikyo Bridge (A beautiful arched bridge that looks like a pair of glasses✨) Going down beneath the bridge, peeking at the underside, just goofing around... The Yamato Museum is a must-visit for history buffs and warship enthusiasts, especially those interested in World War II and maritime technology. The absolute highlight inside is the incredibly detailed and magnificent 1:10 scale model of the battleship "Yamato." The museum also features exhibits on the history of the Japanese Imperial Navy, machinery, submarines, and various engineering equipment. The displays are easy to understand, seamlessly blending historical context with technological insights. The quiet and peaceful atmosphere makes it perfect for taking your time to explore, so you should plan to spend at least 1 to 2 hours here. Additionally, you can check out a real submarine museum right outside the premises. It truly is one of Kure City's premier attractions, offering an experience that is both educational and awe-inspiring.

The Yamato Museum (Kure Maritime Museum) in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is a popular museum where visitors can explore the history of the battleship Yamato and the development of Kure since the Meiji era. The highlight is a massive 26.3-meter-long scale model of the Yamato, meticulously recreated using original blueprints and photographs. Ferries here travel to Etajima and Matsuyama, offering views of the shipyard scenery. Watching the ferries come and go at Kure Port provides a glimpse into the port's rich history, all conveniently accessible for visitors. Adjacent to the port is the large shopping center, youme Town Kure, which is perfect for shopping and dining. The most famous attraction in Kure City is the Yamato Museum (Kure Maritime History and Science Museum), where visitors can learn about the history of Kure as a naval port, as well as the shipbuilding and steel manufacturing technologies. Kure City once flourished as Japan's premier naval arsenal town and was the birthplace of the battleship Yamato. Although I had planned to visit this museum, unfortunately, it is currently under renovation and will not reopen until April 23, 2026. However, right next door is the JMSDF Kure Museum, easily recognizable by the massive submarine suspended in mid-air by the seaside. Admission is free, and the museum spans three floors, offering detailed explanations about underwater mine-clearing systems. Visitors can even step inside the submarine itself. The interior of the submarine is incredibly cramped, filled with various instruments and wiring, with every inch of space utilized efficiently. It's truly fascinating. If you ever have the chance, a trip to Kure City to visit this museum is highly recommended. I went on a staycation to "Chateraise Gateau Kingdom Setouchi" located in Kure, Hiroshima! Guests staying at the hotel can enjoy unlimited ice cream at the front desk ♥ The plan I booked included one free welcome cake at the café, so I indulged in a delicious Mont Blanc 🌰 There’s a large public bath, a table tennis area, and buffet meals for breakfast and dinner ☺️ It was a very satisfying staycation. It seems there’s a pool available during summer 👙 At the buffet venue, you can enjoy unlimited Chateraise sweets! If you can’t finish them, you can take them back to your room and enjoy them later at your own pace. Kameyama Hachiman Shrine is located on the hillside of Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture, serving as one of the key shrines protecting the port town of Onomichi. As you ascend the stone steps, flanked by old residences and sloping alleys, you can experience the quintessential stairway cityscape of Onomichi. The higher you climb, the more expansive the view becomes, with the shrine harmoniously set against the Onomichi Channel and Mukojima Island across the water, exuding a tranquil atmosphere. The shrine is dedicated to Hachiman, the deity symbolizing protection, peace, and maritime safety, making it a revered site for merchants and fishermen since ancient times. Unlike bustling tourist spots, this shrine is relatively quiet, with a serene ambiance where you can often hear the sound of the wind and distant ship horns—a place to pause and feel the flow of time. Strolling through Onomichi and visiting Kameyama Hachiman Shrine along the slopes often becomes the most memorable part of the journey: devoid of noise, yet filled with the warmth and everyday charm unique to this port town.

#KureCity I chose to visit Kure City because I'm more interested in places with fewer crowds; there are department stores right outside the station; the harbor is peaceful; I saw many incredible things at the naval museum; I felt the trip was worthwhile.

Cold noodles (with wontons) at Goryu, a ramen restaurant in Kure City. Known as a renowned "Kure Cold Noodles," it goes without saying that there's a long line out front. The first bite delivers a clear umami flavor and vivid sweetness. The rich, savory soup fills your mouth, inviting you to take another bite. The flat noodles have a well-defined texture, and the more you chew, the more pronounced they become. The wontons have firm skins and are satisfying to eat, and the balance of noodles, soup, and ingredients is impeccable. It's easy to see why people line up for this bowl.
