22℃ Summer! Healed by the coolness of this mountain city
Still undecided where to go for the Dragon Boat Festival? Stop squeezing into crowded popular attractions! I discovered a seriously underrated summer retreat — here the forest coverage rate reaches 98%, the average summer temperature is only 22℃, and stepping into the mountains instantly cools you down by 5℃, even the breeze feels cool!
🌊 First stop: Stream hiking, soak your summer in the water
I was stunned by the scene as soon as I entered the mountain! Following the stream of the Xiaohuangjiang source upstream, beneath my feet is crystal-clear mountain spring water, beside me is a dense primeval forest shading the sky, sunlight filters through the leaves casting dappled shadows, and all you hear are the sounds of flowing water and birdsong.
💡 Must-try tips from personal experience:
· Find the "natural swimming pool"! The water is ice-cold and just waist-deep, many locals bring their kids here to play, once you’re in, you won’t want to get out
· The stream trekking trail is gentle and easy, suitable for elderly and children, remember to wear anti-slip stream shoes
· Along the way, there are several small waterfalls, with mist spraying your face, more refreshing than air conditioning
🏞️ Second stop: Alpine lake, an emerald hidden in the clouds
Wanhe Lake, over 1000 meters above sea level, is stunningly beautiful! The lake water is as green as an emerald, surrounded by mountains, the surface calm like a mirror reflecting blue sky, white clouds, and green hills.
Take a deep breath by the lake, the air is rich in negative oxygen ions that make you feel intoxicated with fresh air. During the Dragon Boat Festival, there are very few people here, almost just our group by the lake, quietly sitting and daydreaming, watching the clouds roll by, all worries vanish.
📸 Photo spots:
· The wooden boardwalk by the lake, stand at the end for a panoramic lake view
· Arrive early in the morning for a chance to see the sea of clouds, with mist swirling over the lake like a fairyland
· After 4 PM, the light is softest, photos come out with a natural filter
⛰️ Third stop: Climb to Wangfotai, watch the sea of clouds surge
Since you’re here, you must climb Wangfotai! The mountain path is a bit steep, but the scenery along the way is absolutely worth it. The higher you go, the cooler it gets, remember to bring a light jacket.
The moment you reach the top is truly breathtaking! Below you is a rolling sea of clouds, distant peaks appear and disappear, it feels like standing on the clouds. On clear days, you can see the endless mountain ranges far away, with an incredibly wide view.
⏰ Best times:
· 6-8 AM: highest chance to see the sea of clouds, and fewest people
· 5-7 PM: watch the golden sunset on the mountains, the evening glow dyes the entire sky red
🏘️ Fourth stop: Thousand-year-old ancient village, where time slows down
After exploring the mountains and waters, be sure to visit Shanggangtang Ancient Village. This village has a history of 1,200 years, with buildings nestled by the mountains and water, like a natural landscape painting.
Walking on the bluestone paths, admiring ancient houses from the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Bùyíng Bridge at the village entrance spans the Xiemu River, every stone on the bridge tells a thousand-year story. The village is very quiet, without commercial noise, only elders chatting at their doorsteps, time seems to slow down here.
✨ Hidden experiences in the ancient village:
· Walk along the river, find a stone to sit and daydream, watch the water flow quietly
· Climb the small hill behind the village for a panoramic view of the entire village, perfect for photos
· At dusk, the sunset shines on the ancient walls, creating stunning light and shadow effects
📝 Practical tips for Dragon Boat Festival travel
1. Transportation: Self-driving is recommended, distances between attractions are a bit far, self-driving is most convenient
2. Clothing: The mountain is 5-8℃ cooler than the city, be sure to bring a light jacket and wear comfortable hiking shoes
3. Gear: Mosquito repellent, sunscreen, hat, stream shoes, power bank
4. Avoid traps: Don’t buy so-called "specialty products" at the attraction entrances, prices are inflated
5. Crowd control: For Dragon Boat Festival, travel off-peak, enter the mountain before 8 AM to avoid crowds
This mountain city is really perfect for summer cooling during the Dragon Boat Festival! No crowded crowds, just 22℃ coolness and stunning mountains and waters. If you’re tired of the city heat and noise, come here to give your soul a break~
