As one of the most active volcanoes here, it looks so cool just constantly puffing out smoke. · Pics 5-8: Mount Rinjani 🌋 Spent 3 days and 2 nights hiking to the summit for this one. We started the final push at 1 AM—totally burned out by then! At 5:30 AM, we arrived at the entrance of the small village near Mount Semeru. It was just getting light, and the rice paddy embankments were already filled with tourists, everyone's cameras and phones pointed at the distant volcano. Suddenly, someone in the crowd shouted: "It's erupting!" A column of gray smoke rose from the crater, slowly spreading outwards. The whole process lasted just over a minute, but it instantly woke everyone up. This quiet and beautiful mountain before us was not just an ordinary distant peak, but a living volcano still breathing. During our exploration, Semeru erupted again. We reached the viewpoint at 4:30 AM, and it was already packed with tourists. Unfortunately, the sunrise was obscured by thick clouds that day, but as the sky slowly brightened, the sea of clouds surged, and the outlines of the volcanoes gradually appeared, which was still incredibly stunning. Mount Bromo isn't particularly tall, but it's highly recognizable. It stands in the gray Tengger Sand Sea, with white smoke constantly rising from its crater. In the distance, Mount Semeru, the highest peak on Java Island, occasionally sends up plumes of smoke in the morning light, making the entire scene look like a movie. Ijen Volcano: Enter the earthly paradise left behind by the gods After two consecutive all-nighters challenging two volcanoes, the trip to Surabaya was absolutely amazing! To catch the ghostly blue flames unique to the late night, we set off at 11 PM to the village at the foot of the volcano. After a short rest, we started our climb at 2 AM, stepping on volcanic ash. Along the way, it was pitch dark, but looking up revealed a sky full of stars and a dazzling Milky Way, breathtakingly beautiful. We reached the summit in just one hour, then descended over loose rocks to the crater. Facing the dual challenges of steep cliffs and slopes, we successfully arrived after 30 minutes. Approaching the blue flames, the sulfur smell was pungent, so we had to wear gas masks. Seeing the world's largest natural blue fire was an indescribable shock; being able to get so close and witness the fascinating interaction between volcanic lava and sulfur was incredible. After viewing the blue flames, we climbed further up to the summit overlooking the volcanic lake. The mist-covered lake looked like a jade pendant wrapped in ribbons, so beautiful it couldn’t be captured by a camera. The round trip was 11 km with a 640 m ascent.
