The ancient city of Lübeck is the largest port in northern Germany on the Baltic Sea coast. It is also the first German World Cultural Heritage Site selected by UNESCO. Walking through it, it feels like being in a medieval castle... Holstentor, built in 1464, is the remains of Lübeck's ancient city gate and a landmark of Lübeck. This gate was printed on early German banknotes (50 marks), showing its representativeness. It is also one of the most beautiful medieval city gates in Germany.

Lübeck is located in southeastern Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany, on the banks of the Traveo River, about 65 kilometers from Hamburg, with a population of approximately 223,000. The Old Town sits on an island surrounded by the Traveo, Wackernitz, and Elbe-Lübeck canals, and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. From the 12th to the 16th centuries, it was one of the most important trading centers of the Hanseatic League, connecting Germany, Scandinavia, and Eastern Europe via Baltic trade, earning it the title of "Queen of the Hanseatic League." Today, Lübeck retains its complete medieval city layout. The famous Holstentor is a city landmark, and the red-brick St. Marienkirche, the town hall, and numerous alleyways and courtyards together form a typical northern German urban landscape.

Located in the heart of Lübeck's Old Town in northern Germany, the Lübeck City Hall (Lübecker Rathaus) is one of the most important historical buildings in this ancient Hanseatic city. Dating back to the 13th century, the city hall underwent continuous expansions as Lübeck evolved into a major trading hub of the Hanseatic League during the Middle Ages, eventually forming the unique architectural complex we see today. The building beautifully blends Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance architectural styles. Its dark brick walls, stepped gables, and elegant spires are its most distinctive features, perfectly exemplifying the classic North German Brick Gothic style. Serving as more than just the city's administrative center, it was also a vital venue for medieval merchants and citizens to make political decisions, bearing witness to Lübeck's glorious past as the "Queen of the Hanse". In 1987, Lübeck's Old Town was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Today, alongside St. Mary's Church and the Holsten Gate, the city hall forms Lübeck's most iconic historical landscape, standing as an essential landmark for understanding the city's rich history during the Hanseatic era.

I’m heading back to Hamburg—this time with my boyfriend! Last September, I went solo and honestly, it was such a vibe, I just had to do it all over again. 🥳 Hamburg for a week is never enough! I soaked up epic city views, sipped on amazing local beers, and dove headfirst into the food scene. But my absolute fave was the Farmer’s Market at Großneumarkt (Großneumarkt, 20355 Hamburg, open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:30 AM–2:00 PM). It’s the ultimate spot for living like a local: think fresh-baked pastries, handmade cheeses, and all the best people-watching. If you’re looking for major savings, don’t skip the DeutschT card! It helped me explore beyond Hamburg—quick day-trips to cities like Lübeck (around an hour by train), Bremen, and even Berlin—without breaking the bank. Train rides become super budget-friendly, so you can level up your trip and see more of Germany. This year, I booked my same comfy hotel near Hamburg Central Station again on Trip.com. It’s literally a game-changer being right by the main train hub—you can jet off anywhere in the city, shop at Spitalerstraße, or stroll to attractions like the Elbphilharmonie with no stress. Counting down the days until we’re exploring the canals, snacking at the Farmer’s Market, and making even more memories in this stunning city. Hamburg—ready for round two? Let’s go! 🙌🍻

Took a break from the bookstore and Muscat’s summer heat to find some quiet trails in Latvia. Ended up in Kuldīga, a small town with a lot of wooden history and very few people, which is exactly my kind of destination. I spent the day walking along the Venta river and through the old town, logging about 18,200 steps on some very unforgiving cobblestones (my ankles are still protesting). As a history nerd, I appreciated that Kuldīga joined the Hanseatic League back in 1368. You can still see that old, wealthy trading history in the preserved timber buildings, which finally got UNESCO world heritage status in 2023. They have the Venta Rapid here, which is advertised as the widest natural waterfall in Europe at 250 meters. The catch? It’s less than two meters high. Honestly, calling it a 'waterfall' is a bit of a stretch—it looks more like a very long, wet step. But the trail running alongside the river was peaceful, green, and completely uncrowded, which made up for the lack of dramatic drops. For anyone interested in the practicalities: · Bus from Riga: €6.40 (one way, about a 2.5-hour ride). · Lunch: A plate of local grey peas with bacon and a black coffee at a quiet basement tavern cost me €9.20. · Sightseeing: €0. Just walking around and enjoying the silence.

#springtravel It's a relaxed Baltic Sea resort and a port for Scandinavian ferries. Seafood restaurants dot the banks of the Trave River as well as the Strandpromenade overlooking Travemünde Beach and the Bay of Lübeck, and stalls sell fish sandwiches at the Fishermen’s harbor. The Alter Leuchtturm is a brick lighthouse from 1539 housing a maritime museum, and the 4-masted sailing ship Passat is open for guided tours. You will find fine sandy beaches, some highly fashionable, on the broad beach promenade, and others tranquil, hidden behind softly undulating dunes. Resort life is never more beautiful than with your feet in the sand and the sun on your head. Key Beach Areas are the following: Kurstrand: The main, wide sandy beach central to the resort. Priwall: A, quieter peninsula across the river offering natural, sandy beaches, accessible by ferry. Dog Beaches: Designated areas available for dogs to swim and play. The city is a northern German city distinguished by Brick Gothic architecture, which dates to its time as the medieval capital of the Hanseatic League, a powerful trading confederation. Its symbol is the Holstentor, a red-brick city gate that defended the river-bounded Altstadt (old town). The Marienkirche is a 13th–14th-century landmark that widely influenced Northern European church design. With six church towers surpassing 100 metres (330 ft), Lübeck is the city with the highest number of tall church towers worldwide. Nicknamed the "City of the Seven Towers". Lübeck's skyline is dominated by the seven towers of its five Protestant main churches: St Mary's, Lübeck Cathedral, St James', St Peter's, and St Giles's. Lübeck City Hall, with its ornate facades, is one of the most beautiful city halls in Germany. It's an interesting, special city. It was pleasant walking around. #springtravel #church #citycenter #travel #townhall

In northern Germany, just an hour and a half from Hamburg, lies a 1.7-kilometer stretch of white sand—Travemünde Beach. This seaside town, welcoming vacationers since 1802, is Germany’s largest port on the Baltic Sea and the beloved backyard of Lübeck residents. Step onto the beach, feel the soft, fine white sand beneath your feet, and gaze out at the blue waves of the Baltic Sea. You can rent one of the iconic wicker beach chairs (Strandkorb), wrapping yourself in the unique Nordic comfort, listening to the gentle waves, and watching the clouds drift by. Stroll along the wide seaside promenade (Strandpromenade), known as the “most beautiful promenade in Schleswig-Holstein,” slightly elevated above sea level, offering breathtaking views of Lübeck Bay. At the end of the beach, the four-masted sailing ship Passat, built in 1911, quietly rests at the river mouth, symbolizing the spirit of this town. Nearby, Germany’s oldest lighthouse watches over the giant ferries traveling to Scandinavia, where classic and modern meet in a fascinating blend. When you’re tired from walking, slip into the Beachlounge, barefoot in the sand, cocktail in hand, watching the sunset paint the sea golden orange. Don’t forget to visit the Fishermen’s Wharf, where you can buy a freshly made fish sandwich (Fischbrötchen) right from the boat, sitting by the shore as the seagulls’ calls and salty sea breeze become the most German summer memories. Whether sunbathing, sailing, exploring nearby nature reserves, or simply daydreaming, Travemünde Beach is worth your stay.

If you’re wandering through Bremen’s Altstadt, you literally cannot miss the twin spires of St. Peter’s Cathedral (St. Petri Dom) piercing the skyline. It’s been standing for over 1,200 years, and honestly, the vibes are immaculate—a perfect mix of majestic history and slightly creepy mystery. Here is the lowdown for your Bremen itinerary: 📌 The Interior: Gothic Goals The moment you walk in, the scale hits you. It’s got that classic Romanesque-meets-Gothic look with soaring arches and some of the most intricate stonework and pulpit carvings I’ve seen in Germany. Even if you aren't religious, the silence and the way the light hits the stained glass is a total mood. 📌 The “Must-Do” Highlights 📍The Lead Cellar (Bleikeller): Okay, this is for my dark tourism fans. In a small cellar, there are naturally preserved mummies in open coffins. It’s eerie, a little weird, and 100% the thing you’ll be talking about at dinner later. It's usually open April through December. 📍The Tower Climb: If you’ve got the cardio for 265 steps, pay the €4 and head up the south tower. The view over the Market Square and the Weser River is the best photo op in the city. 📍The Museum: It’s free! You can see actual artifacts found in the graves of medieval bishops. It’s like a mini time capsule hidden inside the walls. 📌 Blogger Tips for Your Visit 📍Price: Entry to the cathedral itself is free, which is a win for the budget. 📍Timing: Try to aim for a weekday morning to beat the tour groups. If you're lucky, you’ll catch an organist practicing—the acoustics are everything. Dress Code: It’s an active church, so keep it respectful (shoulders covered, etc.), and maybe bring a sweater—those stone walls hold the chill even in summer! Whether you’re here for the architecture or just to see the mummies, it’s the heartbeat of Bremen. Don't skip it !!!! ~ 🩵 #travel #thingstodo #familytravel #museums #myitinerary #citydaytours #afternoonteatime #germany #bremen #trip #LFAngel

Introducing the old town of Lübeck, Germany, which is a World Heritage Site! It's a beautiful city with many buildings that retain the appearance of the Middle Ages, and it's fun just to walk around. There are many historical sites in a relatively small area, and I was able to walk around. There aren't that many people, so I recommend it because you can enjoy sightseeing at a leisurely pace! It's about 45 minutes by train from Hamburg, and about 3-4 hours from Berlin or Frankfurt 🚃 #Spring0yentrip

After leaving Lübeck Train Station and passing through the bus terminal, not long after, a thick and majestic city gate made of dark red bricks came into view a few hundred meters away. It is the representative building that has stood in Lübeck since the 15th century: Holsten Gate. As the distance gets closer and closer, I unknowingly find myself returning from the modern times to the Middle Ages. What a wonderful feeling!

In the historic city of Lübeck, Germany, there is a building that looks like a dream palace - St. Mary's Church. It is undoubtedly a shining pearl of Lübeck, exuding charming historical glory. 😉 The history of Santa Maria Church is very long, and it was built between 1260 and 1351. Looking back at that distant era, the French Gothic church architectural style spread from France to Germany like a trend. Although Lübeck lacked stone, a common building material, it relied on its solid foundation of brick-built Romanesque church technology to skillfully blend the Gothic style with it, and St. Mary's Church came into being against this historical background. It is the first Gothic church built with red bricks. This pioneering move has earned it the reputation of being the "Mother of Brick Gothic Churches". It is of extraordinary significance, laying a model for many subsequent similar buildings and leaving a significant mark in architectural history. 😎 The exterior of the church is like a magnificent painting, with two 125-meter-high sister spires reaching into the sky, as if they are talking to the sky. The pointed lines extend upward, giving people a solemn and mysterious feeling. When the sun shines on the spire, the golden light adds a sacred atmosphere to it. The fields and city scenery in the distance appear even smaller against the backdrop of the spire, highlighting the majesty and grandeur of Santa Maria Church. 👍 Moreover, St. Mary's Church and the adjacent Lübeck Town Hall complement each other and together form the unique urban landscape of Lübeck. Lübeck Town Hall, with its unique architectural style and historical and cultural value, complements the Church of St. Mary. When you stroll through the streets of Lübeck, the two buildings seem to be telling people the historical changes and stories of the city, making people immersed in it. 🤩 Walking into the church, it feels like entering a sacred art palace. Exquisite decorations are everywhere, from the religious murals on the walls to the artistic carvings on the vaults, all showing superb skills and exquisite techniques. The tall vaulted ceiling covers the entire church like the sky, giving people a solemn and peaceful feeling. The exquisite geometric carvings and delicate decorative lines all highlight the unique charm of Gothic architecture. Here, you can feel the perfect fusion of history and art, as if time has stood still. 🥰 Although the current Santa Maria Church was rebuilt after World War II, its designers and builders still uphold a reverence for history and strive to preserve the essence of Gothic architecture. Every detail is carefully crafted to reproduce the glory of the past. 👏 If you come to Lübeck, you must visit this great church. Here, you can touch the vein of history, feel the unique charm of Gothic architecture, and make this church an unforgettable memory of your trip. 🎉
