#celebratewithtrip Lugano is in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland, in the gorgeous canton of Ticino. Our experience in Lugano was walking along the waterfront into the Old Town. The views were spectacular. The Old Town of Lugano is a very intimate part of the city. There are lovely shops, restaurants and places to stay. We also visited the cathedral, which is directly across from the train station, is absolutely gorgeous, inside and out! We then explored the Lake Lugano, which is the ultimate highlight and the main attraction in Lugano. Who can resist swooning at lake views like this? Even if you never even go on the water, just looking at this gorgeous lake is better than therapy! The view here is spectacular! The lake is surrounded by mountains perched with houses and interesting boundary of Italy and Switzerland. If you’re wondering what to see in Lugano in one day, then the lake is an absolute must. We might not spent that much time in Lugano, but I believe that there's more to see in this beautiful place. #summervacay I visited Lugano once in winter, years ago — and even then, I fell in love with this quiet and charming little town. 🕊️ But in early summer, Lugano is on another level. The colors are richer, the skies brighter, and everything feels so alive. ☀️💐 As part of my “Escape from Milan” plan 😂, Lugano easily became my favorite stop. 🚆 Just over an hour from Milano Centrale, I arrived at the dreamy Lugano Paradiso Station — yes, it's literally called Paradiso! 🎢 Right next to the station is the Monte San Salvatore funicular. Head to the top and you’ll get a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Lugano — absolutely worth it. 🏞️ Coming down, I recommend walking back to town along the lakeside. It’s one of the most beautiful and peaceful walks I’ve had — glistening water, swans, cozy benches, and mountain views. 🥐 Thanks to its proximity to Italy, the food here is surprisingly good too — very Italian-Swiss fusion. I happened to visit on Ascension Day, so many shops were closed... but I still had such a lovely, slow-paced day. 📍 To return to Milan, the main Lugano train station is uphill in the city center — a short walk or bus ride away. If you miss nature while sightseeing in Milan, a day trip from Milan to Lugano, Switzerland, is a fun and refreshing lakeside walk with beautiful air and scenery. It takes 1 hour and 15 minutes by bus from Lampugnano, Milan. Even though it is close, prices are suddenly higher than in Italy, so we had a simple lunch at McDonald's, but even that felt expensive.
