🇵🇹 Arco da Vila | Faro, Portugal 🤍
A very charming old town gate in Faro.
When visiting Faro, Portugal, one spot I highly recommend is Arco da Vila, the old town gate that serves as the entrance to Faro's Old Town.
At first glance, it might seem like just an ordinary gate, but up close, it's even more beautiful than you imagined. The white building contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored stone trim, and it features a clock tower and bell tower on top. The details exude a classic and charming old European charm.
Another eye-catching feature is the stork's nest atop the building. If you're lucky, you might even see storks perched on the nest, a lovely sight that adds vibrancy to the place. 🕊️
The large arched gateway in the center allows you to walk through into the Old Town. Inside, you'll find cobblestone streets, old buildings, and small alleys to explore. The atmosphere is quite relaxed, without needing to rush.
I appreciate that Arco da Vila isn't just a photo spot, but also a part of Faro's history. The gate we see today was renovated in the early 19th century and remains one of the city's important symbols.
If you visit on a clear day with sunlight shining on the white building, the photos will be stunning, especially the view from the front showing the archway, the clock tower, and the blue sky all in one frame 📸
Personally, I love places like this. They don't need to be grand or extravagant, but they have small details to notice, old stories hidden within, and serve as a starting point to get to know the city better.
If you have the chance to visit Faro, don't forget to stop by Arco da Vila to take photos and then explore the old town. It's another charming and delightful corner of Portugal to stroll through 💙
