Luntai travel guide and discussion

Every autumn, Tarim Populus Euphratica Forest Park transforms into a breathtaking golden scroll, with the forest dyed in brilliant hues by the autumn breeze. Whether you're here to snap photos or take a peaceful stroll, the scenery is truly enchanting. As one of the largest ancient Populus forests in China, the period from October to November is the prime viewing season, where the layers of golden trees against the Tarim River create a spectacular sight. 🍂 · *Recommended Route:** Upon entering, walk along the main road to admire the unique shapes and postures of the trees. You can also hop on a 40-minute sightseeing bus to explore the core areas. Be sure to stop by the Tarim River to witness the "sea of trees" stretching out like a galaxy. For the best photos, try a low-angle shot near the water to capture the stunning reflection of the golden canopy. 📸 · *Must-Visit Spots:** 1. **Century-Old Populus Avenue** – Rows of majestic old trees with a carpet of golden leaves, perfect for poetic photography. 2. **Tarim River Bank** – The reflection of blue sky, white clouds, and golden trees offers a glimpse into nature's raw charm. 3. **Bell Tower Platform** – The best vantage point for a panoramic view of the entire forest. 4. **Wooden Plank Road** – A very chill walk surrounded by shimmering gold, ideal for capturing that perfect shot. ✨ · *Travel Tips:** · Peak season gets crowded, so try to avoid the National Day holiday. Entering around 10:00 AM is recommended to beat the rush. · The climate is dry with strong sunlight. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and moisturizer. · The park is vast, so comfortable hiking shoes are a must. · A wide-angle lens is highly recommended to capture the vast, golden forest. 📱 · *Things to Note:** · Last entry is at 19:00, so plan your time accordingly. · Dining options are limited; it’s best to bring your own snacks. · You might encounter insects under the trees, so bringing insect repellent and wet wipes is a good idea. 🦟 · *Summary:** Whether you're driving yourself or traveling solo, seeing the Tarim Populus Euphratica Forest in autumn is a must. Witnessing the resilience of these ancient trees is a true highlight of any Xinjiang trip. Between the photography, the fresh air, and the quiet walks, it’s an unforgettable experience surrounded by nature’s beauty. 💛

The 13 km sightseeing railway inside Luntai’s Tarim Populus Euphratica Forest Park is the one thing people photograph but rarely ride slowly. I did the opposite: I rode it twice, once at 10 AM and once at 5:40 PM, and got off at every halt except the crowded “Internet-famous Bridge” stop. Entrance is 45 RMB, shuttle bus 25 RMB (mandatory if you don’t self-drive in for 125 RMB/car), and the train itself is 100 RMB—all via WeChat/Alipaymini-program at the gate, foreign cards useless, ID scan required. The train halts at four platforms: Qiaoyang River, Tarim River Bend, the 24 m observation tower, and the strange-tree deadwood loop. Most tourists jump off at Bridge Stop, shoot the train passing, and reboard. I instead alighted at Tarim River Bend at 5:50 PM, walked 200 m downstream where the boardwalk ends, and had a 40 m stretch of riverbank with zero people. The leaves were at 80% gold on October 18—later than Ejin, which is the point: Luntai peaks mid-October to early November and holds color longer. Common mistake: assuming the train waits. It doesn’t. Last train from the far end departs 18:10; miss it and you walk 4 km to the shuttle road. Another: standing on the carriage ladder for a “moving shot”—rangers tap your shoulder at the next halt. Carry 1.5 L water; the carriages are unheated and the 6 PM wind off the Taklamakan drops 12°C fast. I ate at the mid-park noodle stall (mixed noodles 30 RMB, cashless, QR lags when signal dips). Would you ride the train as a slow viewing deck and skip the bridge crowd, or stand at the bridge and gamble on the 17:05 train passing with good light?

#sunsetplaces Yumin County sits in the far northwest of Xinjiang, close enough to the Kazakhstan border that you can see foreign hills on the horizon. The Populus euphratica groves here are less famous than those in Tarim, which means fewer crowds and more solitude at sunset. I found a gully about 30 kilometers from the county town. No signage, no entrance fee, just a dirt track leading to a stand of ancient desert poplars growing along a seasonal stream. The trees were already turning gold when I visited in late September. The sunset here felt different from other desert locations. Maybe it was the border proximity, or maybe it was the silence. No tour buses. No selfie sticks. Just the wind through the leaves and the sun dropping behind the hills. Border permit note: This region requires a border pass for some areas. I obtained mine in Tacheng city before driving to Yumin. The process took about an hour and required my ID and a brief explanation of my itinerary. What to bring: Cash for fuel and food. Mobile signal is unreliable. A proper map—digital navigation failed me twice. Question: Has anyone explored the Populus euphratica forests further south along the border? I'm planning a return trip and looking for recommendations.

As the white birch forests of north Xinjiang slowly fade, the poplar forests of south Xinjiang reach their peak season 🍂 Mid–late October–early November, the poplars along both banks of the Tarim River turn a radiant gold across vast stretches, with desert, turquoise water, and ancient trees sharing the same frame, creating a south Xinjiang autumn epic. ✅Must-see poplar spots ▪️Luntai Tarim poplar forest: the world's largest original poplar forest, take a vintage train through a golden sea of trees, where bleached trunks meet golden leaves in a striking display of life ▪️Zepu Jinhu poplars: waterside poplars along the Yarkand River, turquoise water reflecting golden trees, a Jiangnan-like gentleness hidden beyond the frontier ▪️Shaya 139 poplar secret: an off-the-beaten-path, pristine site with a golden corridor stretching for tens of kilometers along the route, skip the crowds and enjoy vast stretches ▪️Bachu Red Sea poplars: waterside poplar groves with stunning sunrise and sunset light, a photographer's paradise ✅The South Xinjiang loop offers more than poplars Cross the Taklamakan Desert highway, wander the bustling markets of Kashgar old city, check in at Baisha Lake and Karakul Lake, walk the Panlong ancient trail, and take in desert scenery and Silk Road culture all in one go. 🚗Recommended travel options Small-group charters for 2–6 people, luxury business vans that stop on demand, selected quality accommodations, pure sightseeing with no shopping stops, experienced drivers who find niche photo spots, easily unlock the panoramic autumn colors of south Xinjiang. ⚠️Tips The golden viewing window for the poplars is very short, only around October 15–November 5. Temperatures vary widely between day and night, so a warm coat is essential. Red/white clothing is recommended for photos to maximize your shots.

Before visiting Tarim Poplar Forest Park in Xinjiang, I kept seeing dreamy photos of endless golden-yellow poplar trees and peaceful pathways. Reality? The golden forest IS beautiful… but there’s a lot the photos don’t show. First—the place is HUGE. This isn’t a little forest where you casually walk around for an hour. The scenery stretches incredibly far, with different areas to explore. Second—if you’re visiting during the popular autumn season for those gorgeous yellow leaves, expect crowds. Lots of people are chasing exactly the same golden autumn photos you saw online. But here’s the important part: the beauty isn’t fake. Seeing rows and rows of yellow poplar trees in person was incredible. Some areas felt almost completely golden, especially when sunlight came through the leaves. So for my #photovsrealitytravel verdict: 📸 PHOTO: Quiet, dreamy golden forest. 👀 REALITY: Golden forest + enormous park + plenty of visitors. 😂 ❤️ WORTH IT: Absolutely—just arrive with realistic expectations! Sometimes a place can be crowded and still be breathtaking. Have you ever visited somewhere that looked peaceful online… only to arrive and find hundreds of people taking the exact same photo? Did it ruin the experience, or was the place beautiful enough that you didn’t care? #photovsrealitytravel #hotdiscussions #xinjiang

Some journeys are not just about reaching a destination, they are about witnessing a moment that happens only once a year. This autumn, I traveled deep into Xinjiang for a magical encounter with the legendary Populus Euphratica Forest (胡杨林), where ancient trees transform the desert into a breathtaking golden wonderland. Didn't take the big loop, rented a car with family to visit all the spots we wanted, no ads at all!!! Sincerely sharing!!! 🌏 "About the itinerary" Usually, people take the small loop around Kashgar, or start from Kashgar and go counterclockwise around Shache and Hotan, bypassing the Taklamakan Desert and then looping around Aksu; but this time I chose to do half the loop, starting from Kashgar, spending three days in Taxkorgan, then heading towards Aksu, mainly to save travel time and to see the Populus euphratica forests above, ending in Korla; (For detailed itinerary guide, see images 2-14) 🏎 "About transportation" This trip I traveled with two older sisters, and since we passed through high-altitude areas, we chose to rent a car with a driver instead of self-driving (which proved to be the right choice). On the first day, at 3500 meters altitude, the two sisters already felt very uncomfortable; on the second day, at 4000 meters, I also felt not so good. If crossing the desert, an off-road vehicle is recommended; other times an SUV is sufficient. The national highways are well-paved and the ride is quite comfortable. 🍗 "About food" Xinjiang lamb is really delicious! Whether it's grilled lamb skewers or boiled lamb stew, the only thing I couldn't get used to was the steamed lamb buns, which have a strong gamey taste. Dried fruits are also recommended; you can ask the vendor to try some first, then buy if you like. Figs are now softer and easily spoiled; you can also try peaches, Aksu apples, and Korla pears. Here are some price references 💰: Lamb stew (20-30 CNY) Pigeon soup (20-30 CNY) Lamb skewers (5-10 CNY) Lamb chops (10-30 CNY) Hand-pulled meat (120-150 CNY/kg) Yak hotpot (200-300 CNY) Pomegranate juice (10-20 CNY) Apricot kernel tea (10-20 CNY) Dried fruits (around 60 CNY/kg), minimum half a kilogram 🤸🏻‍♀️ "About altitude sickness" · Don't run or jump! Don't take a bath! Don't catch a cold! · Always wear a hat covering your head in scenic areas because the wind can easily cause a cold and worsen altitude sickness; · Don't stay out too late visiting sights; walking on mountain roads can cause motion sickness and worsen altitude sickness; 🧘🏻‍♀️ "About clothing" · Bring a windproof mask; southern Xinjiang is windy and dusty all year round, with a grayish-yellow sky; · Wear a good windbreaker; traveling at the end of October, in the morning wear inner layers + thin jacket + two pairs of pants, at night wear a full set of windproof clothing; · Sunglasses are a must, as the sun often makes it hard to keep your eyes open; 🌋 "About the Populus euphratica forests" · The yellowness of the Populus euphratica forests varies by location; check in advance the condition of the closest forests. Also, try to avoid visiting around 3 PM because direct sunlight can cause photos to appear washed out; 🕹 "About drone photography" You need to apply for permission to fly drones in urban areas. In southern Xinjiang, the places I visited are not strictly controlled, except for the Populus euphratica forest in Bachu and the Luobu people’s village, which require UOM registration; no other requirements elsewhere. Oh, and at Bosten Lake, drones cannot fly higher than 250 meters;

Who understands! Chasing poplar sunsets alone in Southern Xinjiang, photographing starry skies in the desert, listening to live music in ancient towns, surrounded by the kindness of strangers the whole way—an uncle selling naan gave me an extra warm naan, the teahouse owner taught me to play the dutar, the sense of security and happiness maxed out! This guide only reveals "unique activities + pitfall avoidance details," so even novice female travelers can have a creative trip✨ 🌿 Solo female travelers to Southern Xinjiang, remember these 3 things to ease your worries 1. Is it safe? (Go for it with confidence!) · Security: Police stations are everywhere in Southern Xinjiang cities, counties, and scenic spots, with dense surveillance. The Kashgar night market is lively even at 10 PM, and crowds mean more safety; · Transportation: Choose official vehicles (airport shuttle, metered taxis, direct scenic area buses). Avoid unlicensed cars in remote areas like Taxkorgan. Book rides in advance at the "Kashgar Tourism Distribution Center"; · Accommodation: Stay at chain hotels with 24-hour front desks or female hostels (in Kashgar, choose hostels near the ancient city to find travel companions; in Hotan, stay near Tuanjie Square for convenient transport). 2. Best time to visit Mid-October to early November! The poplars turn into a golden sea, daytime desert temperatures are around 20°C with a light jacket, add a windbreaker at night, perfect for photos without bulky clothes, avoiding summer’s intense sun and winter’s severe cold~ 3. Female-only gear checklist · Clothing: Khaki long skirt (super fairy-like for poplar photos), red shawl (windproof and color-contrasting), non-slip Martin boots (comfortable for desert and ancient towns), hooded sun protection jacket (no need for a headscarf); · Safety: Portable alarm (hang on bag), buy pepper spray at local pharmacies (not allowed on trains or planes), phone strap (prevents dropping while taking photos); · Others: Hydrating face masks (one daily to save dry desert skin), sunglasses (protect from strong light), 500 yuan cash (some small shops only accept cash). 📍 7 days and 6 nights unique activities (no rushing, deep experience) Day 1: Kashgar Ancient City → Immerse yourself as an "Ancient City Girl" · Morning: Fly to Kashgar Airport, take Line 2 bus (15 yuan) to the East Gate of the ancient city, drop luggage at hotel and nap for 1 hour to recover from the flight; · Afternoon: 3 must-do things in the ancient city: ✅ Buy handmade carpet ornaments at East Bazaar (30-50 yuan, bargain to about half, sellers won’t get angry), photograph the "colorful scarf stall," the owner will help you pose; ✅ Take panoramic photos of the red walls at the entrance of Id Kah Mosque (wear long pants and remove shoes to enter), at 3 PM the slanting sunlight creates a great atmosphere; ✅ Drink salty milk tea (15 yuan/pot) at a century-old teahouse, watch locals play the dutar, sit by the window to photograph the "ancient city rooftop cluster," slow pace is very healing; · Evening: Eat roasted goose eggs (20 yuan each) and handmade ice cream (5 yuan per scoop) at the ancient city night market, return to hotel before 9 PM (streetlights are dim at night, better to return early). Day 2: Kashgar → Taxkorgan (Pamir Plateau, snow mountains and lakes) · Transportation: Book direct scenic area bus 1 day in advance (180 yuan/person, including entrance ticket), departs at 8 AM, bring bread and milk for breakfast; · Unique activities: ✅ View and photograph Karola Glacier from afar (don’t approach the melting water! Use wide-angle lens to capture "glacier + snow mountain," wear red shawl standing on the viewing platform for a magnificent background); ✅ Take photos of "snow mountain reflection" at Muztagh Peak viewing platform, no wind at 10 AM, lake surface like a mirror, even phone photos look like "sky mirror"; ✅ Stay at a plateau hotel with oxygen supply (don’t wash hair! Drink glucose water to prevent altitude sickness), watch the plateau starry sky at night, stars so bright it feels like you can reach out and pick them; · Pitfall avoidance: Taxkorgan is over 3000m altitude, don’t run or jump when you arrive, buy oxygen cans (20 yuan each) at hotel front desk, seek help immediately if feeling unwell. Day 3: Karakul Lake → White Sand Lake → Return to Kashgar · Morning: Take direct bus to Karakul Lake (50 yuan entrance), photograph "Muztagh Peak reflected in the lake," soft morning light, lake water is vividly blue; · Afternoon: Stop at White Sand Lake on the way back (free entrance), wear a long skirt by the lake, let the wind lift the skirt for a fairy-tale photo "between snow mountains and lakes," 10 minutes is enough, don’t delay return; · Evening: Back in Kashgar, eat pot stew meat (35 yuan/portion, tender meat falling off the bone with naan), stroll the ancient city night scene, lanterns light up like a fairy tale world, return to hotel before 8 PM. Day 4: Kashgar → Hotan (train desert tour) · Morning: Take train K9786 from Kashgar Station (10:00-14:30, hard seat 69 yuan), choose window seat to photograph "train crossing desert and Gobi" dynamic scenery, put luggage on overhead rack, don’t sleep too deeply; · Afternoon: Taxi from Hotan Station to hotel (20 yuan metered), visit Hotan Grand Bazaar (most lively at 4 PM): ✅ Buy jade pendants under 100 yuan (choose shops with certificates, just pick what looks good, don’t chase real jade); ✅ Photograph "handmade carpet stalls at the Grand Bazaar," colorful and photogenic, owners will let you take photos even if you don’t buy; · Evening: Watch locals dance Meshrep at Tuanjie Square, join in by swaying along, people will pull you to dance together, very warm and friendly~ Return to hotel before 9 PM. Day 5: Hotan → Luntai Poplar Forest (chasing the golden sea) · Transportation: Book direct scenic area bus 1 day in advance (220 yuan/person, including entrance), departs at 7 AM, bring snacks for the road; · Unique activities: ✅ Ride the scenic area small train (100 yuan, a must-buy! 5 km route), get off at "Lake Heart Island" station, photograph "poplars reflected in lake water," at 3 PM the slanting sunlight makes leaves glow golden; ✅ Walk the poplar wooden boardwalk, take "solo back view" photos with the small train as background, making it look like you’re in a golden painting, don’t walk too far, follow the crowd to avoid getting lost; · Evening: Stay at Luntai county hotel (choose near train station), eat small portion of big plate chicken (68 yuan enough for one, add wide noodles for extra flavor). Day 6: Luntai → Kuqa (explore a lesser-known old town) · Morning: Take train K9758 from Luntai (09:15-11:30, hard seat 28 yuan), taxi from Kuqa Station to Kuqa Old Town (15 yuan); · Afternoon: Explore Kuqa Old Town (less crowded than Kashgar, more authentic): ✅ Photograph "Islamic carved red walls" at Kuqa Grand Mosque, sunlight at 2 PM highlights the carvings, perfect for vintage-style photos; ✅ Find houses with "blue doors and windows," ask permission before photographing, residents may offer sweet pomegranates, very friendly chatting while eating; · Evening: Buy vacuum-packed dried white apricots (50 yuan per jin), stay at hotel near old town, rest early. Day 7: Kuqa → Return trip (take Southern Xinjiang flavors home) · Morning: Buy hot naan at Kuqa Airport (5 yuan each, salty, fragrant, and crispy), fly back home, end of trip~ ❌ Complete pitfall avoidance guide for solo female travelers in Southern Xinjiang (learn from hard lessons!) 1. Don’t go alone to remote areas: Taklamakan Desert interior and undeveloped poplar forests must be visited with companions or small groups, no signal alone, no help if something happens; 2. Don’t accept food or drinks from strangers: You can try samples at the Grand Bazaar, but don’t drink bottled water handed by strangers to avoid poisoning; 3. Ask permission before photographing: Smile and ask "Can I take your photo?" before shooting elders or children, don’t shoot if refused, respect local customs; 4. Don’t stay in cheap small inns: Avoid inns without 24-hour front desk, door locks may be unsafe, spend 50 yuan more to stay in chain hotels for a good night's sleep; 5. Don’t bargain without buying: If you bargain for something you like, try to buy it; don’t bargain and then not buy, local sellers are honest, avoid unpleasantness; 6. Don’t wash hair or bathe on the plateau: In high-altitude areas like Taxkorgan, avoid washing hair within first 3 days to prevent altitude sickness, better to endure for safety. 💡 Final thoughts Traveling solo to Southern Xinjiang is really cool! It’s not as dangerous as imagined, only the grandeur of poplars, the gentleness of ancient towns, and the kindness of strangers. Don’t wait for "someone to accompany you," just go when you want, you’re braver than you think~ Pack your bags and go to Southern Xinjiang to meet the golden autumn and a better you!👇

Documents and Border Defense: Some border areas in southern Xinjiang (such as the Pamir Plateau) require a border defense permit. You can apply at the Kashgar Public Security Bureau or have it arranged by a travel agency if you are on a group tour. Always carry your ID card and other valid documents. 3. Transportation and Road Conditions: Southern Xinjiang is vast, and the distances between attractions are long. Plan your itinerary and transportation in advance. You can choose to rent a car, join a group tour, or drive yourself. If driving, pay attention to road conditions and driving safety, especially in mountainous and desert areas. 4. Safety and Environmental Protection: Pay attention to personal safety during the tour, follow the regulations of the scenic spots, do not litter, and protect the ecological environment. In high-altitude areas, be aware of altitude sickness, prepare relevant medications in advance, and avoid strenuous exercise. 5. Respect Local Customs: Southern Xinjiang is home to multiple ethnic groups, each with its own customs and religious beliefs. Respect local customs during your travels to avoid unnecessary trouble. 🍁 In autumn, most people will go to the Ejina Banner Poplar Forest, but did you know that 80% of China's poplar forests are in Xinjiang? The Tarim Poplar Forest in Luntai, not far from Kuqa City, is less crowded and more beautiful, and the scenery far exceeds that of the Ejina Banner Poplar Forest. 🍁 What are the features of the Tarim Poplar Forest in Luntai? 1 Large area. The world's largest poplar forest, a full 400,000 acres. 2 High density. Along the Tarim River, all the way to the Taklimakan Desert, there are patches of poplar forests. 3 Unique beauty. The world's only desert poplar forest park, where poplars, deserts, and lakes are integrated. 🍁 So, I set off from Kuqa County, and after about 2 hours by car, I arrived at the Tarim Poplar Forest Park in Luntai. Along the way, you can enjoy the unique and unique scenery of the desert, such as the sand sea, poplar forest, and reeds. The beauty is clear, the purity is infinite, it is moving, and it is intoxicating. Entering the scenic area, the scenic area is particularly large. I have been to Ejina Banner before. Compared with it, it is much quieter here. At this time, the poplar forest is particularly beautiful under the autumn sun. Groups of egrets and cormorants swim in the lake, and the blue sky, poplar, Tarim River and migratory birds complement each other, forming a beautiful ecological picture. 🍁 How to play in the Tarim Poplar Forest? Sightseeing train: 100 yuan/person, with four stops. The 13-kilometer-long sightseeing train passes through the poplar forest, as if driving to a fairy tale world. 24-meter viewing platform: Climb the 24-meter viewing platform and overlook the entire poplar forest scenic area, which is very shocking. 🍁 Address: Luntai County, Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang 💰 Tickets: 45 yuan/person 📸 Best viewing time: Mid-October to mid-November, later than Ejina, and lasts longer.

Don't want to deal with the National Day crowds? These 6️⃣ autumn destinations are quiet and stress-free. 01 Weihai | Shandong If you want a clean beach for the National Day holiday but fear the crowds in Qingdao or Yantai, Weihai is the perfect alternative. ⏰ Head to Chengshantou before 7:00 AM. The fog hasn't lifted yet, the only people on the reefs are older men fishing, and the light is so soft it looks like a filter. 📍 Enter Chengshantou Scenic Area through the North Gate and walk for half an hour to "Tianjintou" (End of the Sky). Skip the cable car; the wait time is longer than the walk. Set aside an entire morning for Liugong Island. 🚄 A taxi from Weihai Station to the ferry terminal costs about ¥20. Book your ferry and admission tickets one day in advance via the official WeChat account; buying on-site often means getting stuck in the 10:00 AM rush. I don't recommend rushing through Huaxia City. It's better in the evening; after 5:30 PM, the lights come on, and a walk through the valley is quite pleasant. ⚠️ It's windy on the island. Bring a windbreaker in October; don't just wear a hoodie. Stay near the coast in Huancui District. In the morning, you can stroll to the morning market to buy figs—¥10 a bag, and they are incredibly sweet. 02 Putian | Fujian Many people treat Putian as just a stopover, but Meizhou Island is worth a full day. ⏰ Take the ferry to the island in the morning and head to the Mazu Cultural Tourism Zone first. As you climb the stone steps, the sea breeze carries the scent of incense, and looking back, the entire bay is a gradient of blue. 📍 Renting an e-bike on the island is the easiest way to get around, costing around ¥50 per day. Walking will make you question your life choices. 🍜 For lunch, have a bowl of Mazu noodles at a small local eatery on the island. The broth is clear, the toppings are generous, and ¥15 will fill you up. Don't eat at the places near the ferry terminal; they are expensive and mediocre. ⚠️ Book your ferry tickets for the National Day holiday in advance, especially for morning departures, or you'll be stuck waiting until the afternoon. Don't cut it close for the last ferry back; the lines are longer than you'd expect. It's great for traveling with older family members. The pace is slow, the steps aren't too steep, and it's easy for seniors to navigate. 03 Liuzhou | Guangxi The charm of Liuzhou isn't in the viral snail rice noodle shops, but in its laid-back riverside vibe. 📍 Chengyang Eight Villages is a two-hour drive from the city center. The Drum Towers and Wind and Rain Bridges are authentic historical structures, and they look best in the morning fog. ⏰ I recommend staying in the village for one night. It's empty in the early morning, and you can clearly hear the stream under the bridge. Longtan Park is perfect for the afternoon. It's a free spot where locals go for walks. You can hike up a small hill to see the karst peaks in about 40 minutes—it's easy enough for seniors. You must visit the Liujiang River at night. 🚄 Take a taxi to Jiangbin Park and walk along the riverside path. Once the night lights come on, it's ten times more beautiful than during the day. 🍜 For a late-night snack, find a roadside snail rice noodle stall. Don't look for a brand name; look for the line. ⚠️ It's still hot in Liuzhou in October. Short sleeves and a light jacket are enough; don't waste luggage space on thick clothes. 04 Bayingolin | Xinjiang This area is ridiculously huge. Visiting during the National Day holiday is perfect for catching the changing colors of the poplar trees, but you need to plan your route carefully. 📍 For the Nine-Bend and Eighteen-Turn of Bayanbulak, ⏰ arrive at the viewing platform after 7:00 PM. The sunset dyes the river into a golden thread. ⚠️ It's around 0°C on the mountain, so don't skimp on the down jacket. The Taklamakan Desert is best visited in the early morning or at dusk; the sand is scorching at noon. Riding a camel for photos is fine, but don't ride for too long—the bumping will make your back ache. The Tarim Poplar Forest Park is at its yellowest in mid-to-late October; if you go too early, it's still green. 🍜 There are few places to eat on the road, so bring your own food and water. Don't count on the service areas. It's suitable for experienced drivers. The roads are long and gas stations are far apart, so fill up before you leave. It's not ideal for solo travelers or those with children; it's too physically demanding. 05 Benxi | Liaoning If you want to see red leaves during the National Day holiday without the crowds of Xiangshan, Guanmenshan in Benxi is the real answer. ⏰ The maple leaves just start changing color in early October and are at their peak by mid-month. Enter the valley before 8:00 AM when it's less crowded and foggy; you won't have to fight for a spot to photograph the reflections by the stream. 📍 Enter through the main gate of Guanmenshan and walk along the boardwalk. Don't take the sightseeing bus; you need to walk and stop to see the details. Benxi Water Cave maintains a constant temperature year-round. The boat ride inside the cave is quite impressive, but ⚠️ the line can take an hour, so skip it if you're short on time. Wunv Mountain in Huanren is great for those who like to hike. There are many steps, so it's not recommended for seniors. The view of the Hunjiang River bend from the top is worth the sweat. 🍜 In the city, have a bowl of Xiaoshi lamb soup in the morning with a flatbread for less than ¥20. Stay in Pingshan District; it's convenient for getting around. 06 Anshun | Guizhou Huangguoshu Waterfall is very famous, but the key to visiting Anshun during the National Day holiday is avoiding the peak times. 📍 Enter the Huangguoshu Waterfall as soon as it opens at 7:30 AM and head to the Water Curtain Cave first. If you go later, the cave will be packed. ⚠️ Buy a raincoat on-site for ¥10; it's better than getting soaked. Longgong is quieter than the waterfall. You can take a boat into the cave to see the stalactites. The lighting is a bit tacky, but it's cool inside. ⏰ Go in the afternoon to avoid the morning tour groups. 🍜 In downtown Anshun, try the guojuan (wrapped rolls) and duoduofen (spicy rice noodles) at small street-side shops. Don't eat at the entrance of the scenic area. Stay in Xixiu District; it's easy to take a taxi to the station. It's great for kids; the waterfalls and caves are fascinating, and the walking intensity is moderate. It's still rainy in October, so bring non-slip shoes. 07 Wanning | Hainan Sanya is so crowded, but these two bays in Wanning still offer some peace and quiet. 📍 Shimei Bay is perfect for zoning out. The sand is fine and it's not crowded. ⏰ After 5:30 PM, the light is soft, so you don't need to edit your photos. Riyue Bay is for surfing. The waves are steady in October, so even beginners can stand on the board. 🚄 Take the high-speed train from Haikou or Sanya to Wanning Station, then take a 20-minute taxi to the bay. Stay at a seaside homestay; don't stay in the city center, or you'll be wasting time traveling back and forth. 🍜 For seafood, go to Gangbei. Pick your own and have the restaurant cook it; it's more authentic than the restaurants in the scenic area. ⚠️ There might still be remnants of typhoons in October. Check the weather before you leave; don't force the trip. It's suitable for couples and those who just want to relax. It's also fine for seniors, but it's windy by the sea, so remember sun protection. 08 Xianyang | Shaanxi Xi'an is too packed. Move half an hour west to Xianyang, and the pace immediately slows down. 📍 Qianling Mausoleum is worth a visit. ⏰ After 4:00 PM, the light is slanted, and the wordless stele and the stone statues are incredibly peaceful in the sunset. ⚠️ The scenic area is large, so wear comfortable shoes. Don't wear new shoes that might give you blisters. Yuanjiacun Guanzhong Impression Experience Park is great for food. 🍜 Handmade noodles, chili oil, and zenggao (steamed rice cake)—eat your way through, and you'll be stuffed for about ¥50 per person. Avoid peak meal times to beat the crowds. 🚄 There are direct shuttle buses from Xianyang Station to Qianling, taking about an hour. Stay in Qindu District in the city; it's convenient to take the subway to Xi'an. It's great for traveling with parents—history and snacks make for a perfect day. Of these eight places, Weihai and Benxi are the safest bets—one for the sea, one for the leaves. If you only want to pick one, decide whether you'd rather feel the breeze or step on fallen leaves. Tell me in the comments where you plan to go for the National Day holiday, and I'll let you know if it's worth it.

I had always heard of the mystery of Lop Nur, but it wasn't until I traveled there myself that I truly understood the autumn romance of this "Ear of the Earth"🍁 🚗Driving along the Tarim River, the poplar forests in October are brilliant and magnificent under the sun. Although known as the "Sea of Death," this place nurtured the prosperous Loulan and opened the southern route of the ancient Silk Road...🏜️ As the river changed course and water sources dried up, the lake continued to shrink, eventually forming the salt-crusted Gobi Desert, like a weathered mark left by the earth✨ 🌿The Lop people here are the oldest branch of the Uyghur ethnic group in Xinjiang and descendants of the ancient Loulan Kingdom. For thousands of years, they were the only people to settle permanently in the Lop Nur wilderness. I heard that it wasn't until the lake continued to shrink in the 1970s that some were forced to leave their homeland and walk out of the wilderness. Today, it has become a scenic spot, with only a few centenarians remaining~ 🎶The elders play and sing, dancing gracefully with tourists, and their energy is absolutely amazing👍 It feels as if time has stood still here, with only songs and laughter drifting in the autumn breeze~ 🍂In autumn, the Lop Nur poplar trees are dyed with golden hues, their withered trunks standing tall and unyielding. Standing on this land that has undergone thousands of years of change, taking in the autumn scenery of the vast desert, I finally understand autumn in Lop Nur—it is not monotonous or desolate, but healing and breathtaking! It's no wonder the Lop people were unwilling to leave this pure land for thousands of years💛 The lake surface sparkles, with poplars reflected in the water; every photo you take looks like a magazine cover📸 🏨Accommodation recommendation: I got so lucky! I found a hidden gem of a hotel 35km outside of Lop Nur—Yuli Lop Nur Hotel. It's said to have originally been lodging for government officials, so it has a very reliable restaurant, and the chef's skills are top-notch! "The lamb in Yuli is the best in the world" is truly well-deserved; the roasted lamb chops are tender and juicy, which is reason enough for me to want to visit again in this lifetime😋 ✨Tips: The Lop Nur region is generally wild Gobi desert, and signals can suddenly go haywire in many places. It is recommended to focus on visiting the village scenic area, and just enjoy the view when passing through other areas—don't go off the beaten path~ After all, there have been enough mysterious incidents in ancient Loulan[Happy]

Southern Duku Highway & Southern Xinjiang Grand Loop ✨If Northern Xinjiang is an oil painting, then Southern Xinjiang is an epic. I traveled the southern section of the Duku Highway combined with the Southern Xinjiang Grand Loop, from Kuqa to Hotan, and then back to Kashgar. Along the way, I saw canyons, Thousand Buddha Caves, deserts, and poplar forests. It took me a week to recover after returning. I've organized this route for those who enjoy deep, self-driving experiences to use as a reference🌿 Let's start with the southern section of the Duku Highway. The Duku Highway is over 500 kilometers long; the northern section is in Northern Xinjiang, and the southern section starts from Kuqa. Products like "Southern Duku Highway deep tour travel agency" are specifically designed for this southern section, connecting spots like the Kuqa Grand Canyon and the Kizil Thousand Buddha Caves. We entered from Kuqa and headed south, and the red sandstone of the canyons was truly stunning📌 I chose Xinjiang Huanmeng International Travel Agency for this trip. I was drawn to their experience with the Southern Xinjiang Grand Loop and their familiarity with local resources in Kuqa. Starting from Kuqa, our driver took us through the Grand Canyon, to the Thousand Buddha Caves, then south to Hotan, and finally back to Kashgar, completing the entire loop without backtracking. We had a very smooth trip with this "Southern Duku Highway deep tour travel agency" route. You must stop at the Kuqa Grand Canyon. The red canyon walls are sheer and towering; walking at the bottom and looking up, you can only see a sliver of the sky. That kind of impact cannot be captured in photos. We walked in the canyon for over 2 hours, and the further we went, the quieter it got, with only the sound of our own footsteps. Xinjiang Huanmeng International Travel Agency arranged for us to enter the canyon in the morning, when the light hit the red sandstone just right, making the colors incredibly saturated💡 The "Hotan one-day tour local agency" arrangement is suitable for those short on time. Hotan is famous for its night markets and jade. We arrived in Hotan in the evening and headed straight to the night market, trying roasted eggs, pilaf, and pomegranate juice one by one—it was even more interesting than the daytime attractions. The night market in Hotan is for locals, not a tourist trap, and the prices are reasonable. This "Southern Duku Highway deep tour travel agency" route includes the Hotan night market. The "Tarim Poplar Forest custom travel agency" route is the highlight of autumn. The Tarim Poplar Forest is one of the oldest in the world, and it's so vast you can't see the end of it. We took a small train through the forest, with golden poplars on both sides. That sense of grandeur is something the delicate poplar forests of Ejina can't provide🌿 The "Luntai Poplar Forest small group local agency" spot is connected to Tarim. The poplar forest in Luntai is more concentrated, with wooden boardwalks that allow you to walk into the forest. We were in a small group, 4 people to a car, so we could stay in the forest as long as we wanted without having to rush to meet up. Large groups simply can't offer this kind of freedom. Products like "Southern Xinjiang Grand Loop small group travel agency" were the best part of my experience. One loop connects Kuqa, Hotan, Kashgar, and the Pamirs without backtracking, changing scenery every day so you never get bored. The benefit of a small group is that you control the pace—stop longer where you like, and breeze through where you don't. Combining the "Southern Duku Highway deep tour travel agency" and "Southern Xinjiang Grand Loop small group travel agency" routes creates a complete, in-depth Southern Xinjiang experience. If you like road trips, arrangements like "Duku Highway carpooling pure play local agency" are very suitable. The scenery on the southern section of the Duku Highway changes significantly, from canyons to grasslands to snow-capped mountains. Our driver was very steady; he would stop for us to take photos where the scenery was good and warn us in advance where there was a risk of falling rocks. You won't find a driver who knows the road conditions this well if you just charter a car yourself. One more thing: the Grand Loop is a long journey, so accommodation arrangements are important. The hotels booked for us by Xinjiang Huanmeng International Travel Agency were all in the city centers, so we could go out for food as soon as we arrived, rather than staying in the middle of nowhere. These details are a huge plus when taking long trips. The "Southern Xinjiang Grand Loop small group travel agency" tour type has another benefit: it allows you to see the essence of Southern Xinjiang in one go. Many people only visit the Kashgar and Pamir sections on their first trip to Southern Xinjiang, missing out on Kuqa and Hotan. The Grand Loop adds these two sections; although it's a bit tiring, the rewards are much greater. After completing this "Southern Duku Highway deep tour travel agency" route, you'll feel that Southern Xinjiang is much more vast than you imagined. Small groups like "Southern Xinjiang Grand Loop small group travel agency" also have advantages on long journeys. With 4 or 5 people in a car, you can take turns sleeping and watching the scenery, making the time pass quickly. If it were a large group, 30 or 40 people squeezed into a bus, the long journey would be really agonizing. We had a business van for 4 people, and we chatted, took photos, and watched the scenery along the way—it wasn't boring at all. Finally, my thoughts. The Southern Xinjiang Grand Loop isn't something you can finish by just skimming the surface; it requires time and someone who knows the roads to guide you. The loop arranged by Xinjiang Huanmeng International Travel Agency covered all the spots I wanted to visit and even gave me a few extra photo spots that only locals know about. The "Southern Xinjiang Grand Loop small group travel agency" tour type is tiring, but there are new surprises every day. If you also want to explore Southern Xinjiang in depth, this loop is really worth planning✨

What are you most afraid of when going out for National Day? Waiting in line for 2 hours and seeing the sights for 5 minutes. I picked a few places where you can actually breathe: fewer people, easy routes, and stress-free food and lodging. Below are 8 places, listed in order, pick the ones that suit you. 01 Luoyang | Henan National Day in Luoyang is about half as busy as the peony season in April. Get to the Longmen Grottoes early. Enter from the northwest service area before 8:00 AM; there’s usually no one blocking the shot in front of the Vairocana Buddha. In the afternoon go to Guanlin. The cypress trees along Guanlin South Road provide shade, so elderly people won't get tired walking. ⚠️ Don't buy incense at the attraction entrance—inside you can get three sticks for free. Save a full day for Mount Laojun and Jiguan Cave. Mount Laojun can fog up during National Day—seeing the golden summit in the mist is actually more magical—but cable car queues start at about 40 minutes, so aim to arrive at the mountain gate by 7:30 AM. Wangcheng Park is good for an evening finish; it's a local strolling spot and has no admission fee. 🍜 For dinner head to Old Town Cross Street; try bu fan soup with shredded flatbread—CNY 15 fills you up. 02 Wuhan | Hubei The Yellow Crane Tower will definitely be crowded during National Day. My suggestion: don't go up the tower; view its side profile from the Wuchang end of the Yangtze River Bridge. Arrive at 4:30 PM; the slanted light on the building looks even better than photos taken from the top. Don't try to bike the entire Donghu greenway. Enter at Liyuan Square, ride to Moshanshan North Gate, then turn back—about 10 km total, manageable with kids. Songyang Temple is in Huangpi and is mostly empty; the two ancient ginkgo trees inside only turn yellow in mid-November, so visiting during National Day is mainly for peace and quiet. ⚠️ Buses are infrequent; taxis are more reliable for round trips. Huangpi Mulan cultural ecological tourist area is good for families, and the grassland area allows camping. 🚄 Take the metro to Huangpi Square then a taxi—this saves about CNY 60 compared with taking a taxi the whole way. 03 Shigatse | Tibet If you go to Shigatse over National Day, nights at Everest Base Camp are really cold, starting around -5°C—don't skimp on a down jacket. Arrive near Rongbuk Monastery at 7:00 PM and wait for the alpenglow on the mountain—the 20 minutes make the bumpy trip worthwhile. Put Tashilhunpo Monastery on the morning of the second day. No photos inside the halls—follow the locals doing kora for about an hour. ⚠️ At 3,800 m altitude, don't shower on the first day. Transport: there's now a higher-speed train from Lhasa to Shigatse, about 2.5 hours. From the city, hire a car to Everest—round trip in two days; if you share the ride, expect about CNY 400 per person. Start altitude sickness medicine three days in advance; oxygen cylinders are available in Shigatse city, about half the price of at base camp. Suitable for those in good physical condition and not in a hurry; consider carefully before bringing elderly travelers. 04 Jinhua | Zhejiang Hengdian World Studios will have film crews shooting during National Day, but there are fewer tourists than in summer. Qinwang Palace and the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival park are next to each other—buy a combo ticket, one day is enough to hit both parks. In the afternoon head to Shuanglong Scenic Area. At Shuanglong Cave you lie in a boat to go in; expect about a 20-minute queue. It's around 16°C inside—bring a light jacket. ⚠️ Steps in the cave are slippery—wear non-slip shoes. Stay one night in downtown Jinhua. 🍜 For dinner, try the claypot restaurant on Bayi North Street—the small pork bone claypot is enough for two, about CNY 50 per person. Transport: Hengdian has no high-speed rail station—it's a 40-minute taxi ride from Yiwu station. Shuanglong Cave is north of Jinhua station; Bus Tourism Line 5 goes directly. Don't pack the schedule too tightly—two spots in one day is perfect. 05 Quanzhou | Fujian The vibrancy of Quanzhou during National Day is in the alleys, not at the attraction entrances. Kaiyuan Temple opens at 7:00 AM; at that time there are only the cleaning aunties under the east and west pagodas, and the light is at its best. You only need to climb halfway up Qingyuan Mountain; after seeing Laojun Rock, return the same way—don't force yourself to reach the summit. Quanzhou's cliff inscriptions are scattered along the mountain roads—take your time to find them; it's more interesting than just checking a box. Save an afternoon for Chongwu Ancient City. It's windy by the sea—hold on to your hat. ⚠️ Ask the price before ordering at seafood stalls inside the old city to avoid awkwardness when paying. 🍜 Try misua porridge with fried dough sticks for breakfast—any shop on West Street is fine. Good for slow travelers; two days and one night is just right. No need to rent a car—public transit plus walking covers it. 06 Bayingolin | Xinjiang By National Day, the grass in Bayanbulak is already yellow, but the sunset over the winding river with its nine bends still performs as usual. Get to the viewing platform before 6:00 PM to claim a spot—if you're late you'll only see people's backs. Don't go deep into the Taklamakan Desert—play with sand at the edge and shoot road-trip photos. ⚠️ Few gas stations on desert roads—fill up before you go in. Tarim poplar forest park turns fully yellow in mid-October; visiting during National Day, when it's mixed green and yellow, means fewer people and better photos. Start from Korla by rental car for a 3-day loop—fuel and lodging cost just over CNY 1,000 per person. Expect a 20°C temperature swing between morning and night—layer a light down jacket over short sleeves. Best for experienced drivers; if you bring kids, don't stay long in the desert section. 07 Fuzhou | Jiangxi Dajue Mountain is in Zixi, Fuzhou. Rafting is open during National Day, but the water is cold—skip it if you're sensitive to cold. Take the cable car up and walk the glass plank road—3 hours is enough. There is a lot of fog in the mountains in October; after 10:00 AM the fog usually clears and the peaks appear. ⚠️ Rafting will get you wet—keep a change of clothes in the car. There is a shuttle from Fuzhou city to Zixi—1.5 hours. 🍜 Zixi bread is famous—bring back two as trail food. Good for those looking to escape the crowds rather than tick off attractions. 08 Meizhou | Guangdong Yannanfei tea fields are harvesting autumn tea during National Day—enter the plantation at 8:00 AM to watch tea pickers, and the air is full of fresh green leaf scent. You can pick and pan-fry tea yourself in the fields—it's a 30-minute experience, great for kids. ⚠️ There are many bugs in the tea fields—wear long pants and use insect repellent. 🍜 For lunch eat Hakka dishes at Weilong Restaurant—salt-baked chicken and stuffed tofu are must-orders, about CNY 60 per person. It's a 40-minute taxi ride from Meizhou West station; there is also a bus, but it's slow. Two days and one night is enough—slow down and don't rush. Of these eight, I most recommend Quanzhou and Meizhou: one for wandering alleys, the other for green scenery. Where are you planning to go for National Day? Tell me in the comments and I'll help you decide if it's worth it.
