A century-old train station hides a tropical garden! Madrid Atocha Station.
Singapore's Changi Airport brings the tropical rainforest into the terminal; similarly, in Spain, there is Atocha, which brings a botanical garden into the station hall. This spectacle is truly breathtaking.
Madrid's Atocha Station has a history of over a hundred years and has been rated as one of the most beautiful train stations in the world. It is the main station connecting Madrid with other areas, with trains and subways converging here, resulting in a significant flow of people.
Atocha is composed of two stations, new and old. The new station is used for boarding, while the old station serves as a shopping mall and a tropical garden, housing over 400 species and 7,000 plants. It is lush and green, resembling a large greenhouse, and is incredibly soothing!
Atocha's design is very unique, with a high vaulted main hall that is highly recognizable. The exterior features exquisite carvings, exuding an ancient Athenian vibe. The glass skylight at the top allows sunlight to pour into the platform and hall, making travelers feel warm and comfortable.
Visiting an Ancient Egyptian Temple in Spain? Temple of Debod in Madrid
It's hard to imagine why an ancient Egyptian temple would be in Spain.
In the area around Parque de la Montaña in Madrid, there stands a relic of an ancient Egyptian temple, the Temple of Debod. Next to the temple's stone archway is a long pool where you can capture the reflection of the ancient Egyptian temple with modern buildings in the background, creating an interesting juxtaposition of ancient and modern architecture.
It is said that the Temple of Debod was built in the 2nd century BC and was donated by the Egyptian government to Spain in gratitude for Spain's help in saving the Abu Simbel temples. Moving the temple from Egypt to Spain was quite an undertaking, requiring it to be dismantled piece by piece and then reassembled in Madrid.
The Temple of Debod can be visited for free, but you need to book online in advance. Inside the temple, you can find statues and ancient artifacts dedicated to Amun, the king of the gods, and the goddess Isis. Visiting an ancient Egyptian cultural relic in Spain is indeed a unique experience.

The must-visit place in Madrid during sunny days
Palacio de Cristal
Paseo de Cuba, 4, 28009 Madrid, Spain
Madrid’s stunning Crystal Palace is located in the city's "green lung," Retiro Park. Built in 1887 during the Philippine Exposition to showcase exotic plants, the Crystal Palace is a romantic venue and one of Spain's most famous iron-structure buildings. Its excellent light transmission makes it a great spot for photography.
Madrid's Must-See Night Spot: The Temple of Debod
Interestingly, this temple was originally built in Egypt around 200 BC but was dismantled in the 1970s and reassembled here in Madrid. It's a perfect place to relax and enjoy street music and a stroll at sunset. In my opinion, it offers one of the best views of the city.
After visiting the temple and its surroundings, you can also stop by the Principe Pio shopping center and restaurants, or visit the fun playground at Plaza Espana—both are just a 5 to 10-minute walk away.

Rizal in Madrid: A monumental legacy
As a Filipino visiting Madrid, my foremost thought was to pay homage to the José Rizal Monument, a symbol of our national pride.✨
FYI: José Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines. 🇵🇭
The monument symbolizes the enduring connection between the Philippine and Spain, acknowledging Rizal’s role as a bridge between the two cultures. It also serves as a reminder of the struggles for independence and the importance of intellectual resistance against colonial rule.
For many Filipinos in Spain and around the world, the monument is a site of pilgrimage, especially during Rizal Day (December 30), when they gather to honor Rizal’s memory and reflect on his contributions to the fight for Filipino Independence.
The monument is not only a tribute to a national hero but also a symbol of the shared history between the Philippines and Spain. 🇵🇭🇪🇸

My stay at The Westin Palace in Madrid was truly exceptional! Located in the city center, this luxurious hotel offers a perfect blend of comfort and elegance. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, making it a great place to unwind after a day of exploring. 🌟 The price per night was around €350, which reflects the high-quality service and amenities.
The hotel's location is fantastic—just a short walk from the Prado Museum, Retiro Park, and the Royal Palace. 🏰🌳 We also enjoyed the nearby dining options and vibrant atmosphere of Gran Vía. The Westin Palace made our Madrid trip memorable, and I’d highly recommend it for a top-notch experience.

Top 10 Must-Do Small Things on Your First Visit to Madrid, Spain
When it comes to Madrid, what comes to your mind first? I would think of Jolin Tsai's 'Madrid Wonders', and my initial understanding of the city also comes from this song. It truly is a city that needs to be savored slowly, not only does it have mouth-watering cuisine but also year-round cultural events, long hours of daylight, and more; however, the main thing to do when you come here is to complete these 10 small tasks!
1. Visit the Bear and the Strawberry Tree statue
Although its location might shift occasionally, it's still in Puerta del Sol, with no real impact; yes, Madrid has strawberry trees, but no bears.
2. Experience ice skating at El Retiro
Engaging in sports at El Retiro Park is often a challenge, but it's also to help everyone overcome.
3. Climb to the rooftop of the City Hall
At the corner of Cibeles, Gran Via, where Calle de Alcalá begins, you can take some really nice life photos, and also take the opportunity to have a drink, enjoying the view while you sip.
4. Take a photo with the Schweppes sign in the background
Definitely the first thing to do, take a photo from one of the zebra crossings, it really makes for a good shot (but safety first).
5. Jog along the Madrid Río
Jogging in El Retiro Park is also good, but enjoying this small river and the ever-growing animal population is also a pleasure.
6. Jump around in Kapital
With a total of 7 floors, each floor has different music, those who like this kind of atmosphere will love it.
7. Visit the Palacio de Cristal
The Crystal Palace is made of iron art and glass, a venue for displaying plants, and is quite famous locally.
8. Spend a day in the Malasaña neighborhood
It has a Bohemian vibe and is the coolest and most down-to-earth district in Madrid, very suitable for a city walk.
9. Go to the gastronomic paradise Mercado de San Miguel
It almost gathers specialties from all over Spain, whether it's Iberian ham, Galician seafood, Mediterranean dishes, Asturian cheese, etc., letting you fully satisfy your taste buds.
10. Watch a flamenco dance
What could be more Spanish than twirling skirts, crisp castanets, and fancy guitar playing? You can't help but dance along.
