This was an amazing experience! I highly recommend this class. Sergio was outstanding! It was both entertaining and educational. Despite having no prior experience, I felt entirely at ease throughout the class. I even feel confident enough to try making these again at home. The hands-on teaching combined with provided written instructions for later use was great. The small group size created a relaxed, fun, and highly informative atmosphere.

Aethos Ericeira is an intimate boutique design hotel situated in Ericeira, one of the most evocative spots along the Portuguese coastline. Here, the architecture doesn't compete with the ocean; it elegantly yields to it. 📍 Aethos Ericeira, Ericeira, Portugal The experience begins before you even reach your room: the Atlantic stretches out before you, with the hotel’s design centered entirely around a continuous connection to the sea. 🏛️ Breathing New Life into an Old Landmark The project was a masterclass in navigating complexity. Located in a protected area, the architects at Pedra Silva Arquitectos had to work within strict constraints. Rather than demolishing the existing structure, the team preserved its historical foundation while completely reimagining its architectural soul. One of the most significant changes was the relocation of the entrance from the center of the building to the sea-facing facade, creating a dramatic full-height interior space. Consequently, your first impression of the hotel is defined by the vastness of the ocean. 🌊 Architecture Inspired by the Horizon The design team removed sections of the old pitched roofs to open up balconies and streamline the building’s silhouette. Vertical wooden slats and metal panels lend a contemporary edge while helping the new structures blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. It’s fascinating to see how the new and old elements coexist: the building feels modern yet deeply rooted in its location. 🧖 Beyond the Views Most guest rooms are housed in the new wing. A dedicated, minimalist structure was created for the SPA, which connects directly to the pool area and gym. The result is a sanctuary where you can spend days without ever needing to leave: the ocean, the pool, the spa, and the gym all harmonize with the tranquil atmosphere of Ericeira. 🎨 Design Architecture — Pedra Silva Arquitectos Interiors — Astet Studio The interior success lies in three elements: natural textures, a muted color palette, and a constant visual dialogue with the Atlantic. 💡 Perfect for: Travelers who appreciate modern architectural gems, sweeping ocean vistas, and spaces where design serves to highlight—rather than distract from—the natural beauty of the landscape. This is why Aethos Ericeira feels less like a new hotel and more like a natural extension of the coastline itself. 🌊🇵🇹

#worthitomot #Ericeira #WorldSurfingReserve I parked at Ribeira d’Ilhas (€1.50/2h in the lot, card ok) at 8:30 am and took the coastal path north toward Coxos. The trail is ~2 km, free, uneven calçada and dirt, flanked by aloe and sea fennel, with three miradouros where I watched 12 surfers peel off the Coxos point break—hollow, fast, not for beginners. Ericeira has been a World Surfing Reserve since 2011, and the path stitches together the breaks: Ribeira d’Ilhas (contest venue), Coxos (advanced), São Lourenço (mellow). Back in town I walked the whitewashed alley off Praça da República—blue-trim houses, pastel de nata €1.20 at a corner padaria, no card under €5. A surf school quoted €40 for a 2h group lesson; I skipped it and just photographed the lineup. Mistake: I wore road sneakers on the cliff path after a drizzle and slipped on the clay section near Coxos—trail shoes needed. Another mistake: expecting Coxos beach itself to be a lounge; it’s a rock-ledged surf ledge with no sand, so swim back at Praia dos Pescadores. Food: seafood stew (açorda de marisco) €14 at a tuna-themed tasca on the alley. Worth it? Yes—the path is free, the village is real Portugal not resort, and the surf culture is palpable without paddling out. But if you don’s surf, 2 km of cliff and alley is a half-morning, not a full day. Question: does a free walk past world-class breaks beat paying €40 to actually ride them, or is watching from the miradouro the smarter spend?

This was my fifth time staying at Aethos, and somehow, every visit just gets better. I was in town for a Harry Styles concert, and the team went above and beyond to make the entire experience extra special and unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, everyone was so warm, thoughtful, and genuinely dedicated to ensuring I had the best time possible. It’s the small gestures and genuine kindness from the staff that keep me coming back. They truly made my concert trip feel magical, creating memories I’ll treasure for a long time. The experience was absolutely golden, and thanks to all the thoughtful surprises and hospitality, I went to the concert feeling even more excited and ready to disco the night away. The entire team works seamlessly to make sure every stay feels unique, and it really shows. Special thanks to Erel, Nafis, Chris, Jason, and Rebeca from the front desk team, as well as Sara from reservations, for another amazing stay. I’m already counting down to visit number six! ✨🪩

Palace of Mafra Located in the outskirts of Lisbon, it's about a 1.5-hour journey and offers free admission with the Lisbon Card. Mafra Palacio Palace of Mafra Located in the outskirts of Lisbon, it's about a 1.5-hour journey and offers free admission with the Lisbon Card. Like most palaces, it has all the standard exhibition halls you'd expect. A pleasant surprise is the Musical Instruments Museum here, where the collection will likely leave musicians in awe; there's also an ancient library guarded by bats—yes, you heard that right, actual bats! Additionally, the final section features a religious exhibition showcasing the monks' living quarters and kitchen, something I've never seen in any of the palaces or monasteries I've visited before.

Most people know Nazaré because of its giant waves and surfing records, but the town also has one of Portugal's most impressive urban beaches. Praia da Nazaré stretches for several kilometers and combines a huge sandy shoreline with turquoise Atlantic water and a charming old town filled with white houses and orange rooftops. Even in summer, the beach feels incredibly spacious. The best views are not from the sand itself but from the cliffs above the town. From the famous Sítio viewpoint, you can see the entire crescent-shaped bay and understand why Nazaré is considered one of Portugal's most photogenic coastal destinations. 🕒 Best time to visit: May–June or September for warm weather and fewer crowds. 📍Combine it with: – the Sítio district and its viewpoints – the famous giant-wave spot at Praia do Norte – the fishing quarter in the old town Pro tip: stay until sunset. The golden light over the beach and the red rooftops creates one of the most beautiful scenes on Portugal's Atlantic coast. #Portugal #Nazare #PraiaDaNazare #BeachLife #EuropeTravel #HiddenGem #TravelPhotography

😱😍The only library in the world guarded by bats 🦇🦇🦇 📖 The Royal Library of the Mafra Palace: Luxury and Living Book Protection If you're looking for places in Portugal where history literally "breathes" in every room, be sure to add the library of the Mafra Palace to your itinerary. What makes it special: Scale and style. 85 meters of exquisite Rococo: carved shelves, marble, light that falls on the spines of the books as if deliberately designed. 📜The Collection. Around 36,000 rare volumes, many over 500 years old. These aren't just "old books"—they're documents of the era that can be used to study European history. 🦇Bats as guardians. Instead of insecticides, a natural method has been used here for centuries: at night, bats hunt insects that could otherwise damage the pages. Yes, they have to clean thoroughly in the morning, but they do it deliberately for the sake of preserving the books. ✨An atmosphere of silence and grandeur. The hall has special acoustics: footsteps sound muffled, and the air seems saturated with time. 💡 Practical tip: the library is not open every day, and opening hours are short (often morning and afternoon). It's best to check the schedule on the official website in advance and allow time for your visit to avoid rushing. Planning a trip to Portugal? Add Mafra to your itinerary—it's a place that will be remembered not only for its beauty but also for its unique history.

A peaceful day in Mafra can be delightfully slow-paced if you focus on enjoying the calm and beauty around Igreja Evangélica do Livramento. Situated at Largo das Courelas 8, 2665-001 Azueira, Portugal, this church is open all week from 09:00 to 17:30 (Monday-Saturday) and from 10:30 to 12:30 on Sundays, providing generous hours to find your perfect moment of stillness. Begin your morning by heading to the church in time to catch the gentle sunrise light filtering through the nearby trees. The area surrounding the church is quiet and largely untouched, making it ideal for moments of reflection. Take a seat on one of the benches or find a shaded spot beneath the trees, and simply enjoy the fresh air and the changing colors of the dawn. Bring a sketchbook or a book if you’d like to make the most of this peaceful setting. Not far from the church, small rivers and ponds can be found, framed by nature’s greenery and resident birds. Around midday, stroll to one of these tranquil water spots and let the soothing ambience of the flowing water enhance your relaxation. The sight of still ponds glimmering under the sun, surrounded by other trees, is perfect for a quiet picnic or for just sitting and taking in the view. This is a wonderful time for nature photography, with calm reflections and gentle ripples offering plenty of inspiration. As afternoon stretches toward evening, return to the vicinity of Igreja Evangélica do Livramento. The golden hour before sunset paints the landscape in warm hues—find a comfortable place to sit and watch the light fade through the branches. The air cools and the ambiance becomes even more serene, making it perfect for journal writing or quiet contemplation. Tips: · Pack snacks and water, as amenities near the church are limited. · Arrive early to enjoy morning solitude; for sunset, bring a light jacket. · Be mindful of the church’s Sunday morning hours if you plan a visit then. · Respect the peaceful atmosphere, whether inside or outside the church. For anyone seeking an itinerary centered around restful sitting and enjoying the gentle embrace of nature and local history, this corner of Mafra is a quiet haven worth discovering. #Mafra #NatureVision #SunriseAndSunset #PortugalTravel #SlowTravel

Today, let's discuss the architectural style of the Madrid Royal Palace and its influence on European court architecture. The Madrid Royal Palace combines Baroque and Neoclassical architectural features, playing a pivotal transitional role in the development of 18th-century European court architecture. Its influence is mainly reflected in three core dimensions: stylistic fusion and innovation, spatial layout paradigms, and the inheritance of decorative aesthetics: 1️⃣ Fusion paradigm of Baroque and Neoclassicism, breaking the constraints of a single style Built in the mid-18th century, the Madrid Royal Palace was constructed during a period when European architectural styles were transitioning from the ornate and elaborate Baroque to the rational and restrained Neoclassicism. It does not fully favor one style: the exterior façade adopts Neoclassical symmetry and simple column structures, emphasizing geometric order; the interior halls (such as the Throne Room) retain Baroque dynamic curves, gilded decorations, and ceiling paintings, while also incorporating the delicate refinement of Italian Rococo. This "simple outside, luxurious inside" fusion model broke the previous binary style choice in European court architecture and inspired contemporary and later European royal architectural designs. For example, the Mafra Palace in Lisbon, Portugal, and the Royal Palace of Caserta in Naples both borrowed this design logic of a "rational exterior shell enveloping a magnificent core," balancing the majesty of royal buildings with residential luxury. 2️⃣ Square enclosed layout, becoming a classic spatial template for royal palaces The Madrid Royal Palace adopts a square main structure with a central courtyard, with symmetrical buildings on all four sides. The central courtyard serves as the core for lighting and ventilation and also functions as a ceremonial gathering space. The Prince’s Gate on the east side acts as the main entrance connecting the external plaza with the internal space, forming a progressive ceremonial route of "plaza - palace gate - courtyard - main hall." This layout inherits the defensive spatial logic of traditional Spanish fortresses while enhancing the ceremonial and functional aspects of court architecture. It was emulated by many European royal families. For example, the Royal Palace of Brussels, built in the 19th century, also uses a square enclosed layout with a central courtyard design, highlighting royal dignity and order through symmetrical circulation; it even influenced some large non-royal public buildings (such as government palaces and noble residences) in their spatial planning. 3️⃣ Cross-regional transmission of decorative aesthetics, promoting the fusion of Iberian style with mainstream European styles The interior decoration of the Madrid Royal Palace absorbs the delicacy of Italian Rococo (such as ceiling paintings and tapestries), the luxury of French Baroque (such as the mirrors and crystal chandeliers in the Hall of Mirrors), and incorporates Spanish local craftsmanship — for example, extensive use of Spanish marble, gilded stucco techniques, and the armor decorative aesthetics displayed in the Royal Armory. This characteristic of "integrating diverse decorative elements" promoted a two-way exchange between Iberian Peninsula architectural crafts and mainstream European court aesthetics. On one hand, Spanish marble carving and metal inlay crafts were introduced to other European royal families through the Madrid Royal Palace (such as the addition of Spanish-style gilded decorations in the later renovations of Austria’s Schönbrunn Palace); on the other hand, the palace’s borrowing of Italian ceiling paintings and French Hall of Mirrors designs provided a "localized adaptation" reference for Southern European court architecture, avoiding blind copying of Northern and Western European styles. 4️⃣ Balanced design of functionality and symbolism, influencing the functional transformation of court architecture Unlike the Palace of Versailles, which leans towards pure ceremonial "royal power display," the Madrid Royal Palace was built with consideration for three major functions: state affairs, royal residence, and cultural artifact collection. The palace’s public areas (such as the Throne Room and Hall of Mirrors) were used for celebrations and diplomatic events, private areas served as daily living spaces for the royal family, and dedicated exhibition halls were opened to display paintings, armor, and other artifacts. This "multi-functional composite" positioning shifted court architecture from a single "symbol of royal power" to a complex of "cultural carrier + political venue + residential space," influencing the functional planning of 19th-century European royal buildings. For example, the subsequent expansions of Windsor Castle in the UK and the renovations of the Stockholm Royal Palace in Sweden both strengthened the functions of artifact display and public visitation while reducing purely military defensive attributes. One of the origins of this transformation was the functional design concept of the Madrid Royal Palace. In summary, the core influence of the Madrid Royal Palace lies in its **"transitional" and "integrative"** nature — it both summarizes the decorative essence of Baroque style and initiates the rational layout of Neoclassicism, providing a key model for the transformation of European court architecture from "ostentatious luxury" to "functional majesty."

Location: Real Bakery, Rua de Santa Justa 87, 1100-486 Lisboa Sergio proved to be an excellent instructor, guiding our group of twelve in crafting the perfect Pastel de Nata at Real Bakery. He offered clear directions, valuable tips, and all the necessary tools to create these delicious Portuguese custard tarts from scratch. We each mixed the ingredients — precisely measuring the flour, sugar, 2% milk, eggs, and a dash of salt — while Sergio gave insights on enhancing flavor and optimizing baking temperature. Kneading the dough on the marble counter, lightly dusted with flour, was a key and rewarding part of the process. As we filled the tins and watched our pastries bake, excitement filled the room — and when they emerged golden and crisp, the first taste was sheer bliss. Each of us made three Pastéis de Nata to take home (unless eating them immediately was too tempting!). Afterward, we received a certificate of recognition and a beverage of choice to enjoy alongside our freshly baked treats. Sergio also emails everyone the complete recipe and detailed steps so you can recreate the magic at home. If you’re in Lisbon, don’t miss this session with Sergio — he’ll ensure you depart with the skills and confidence to bake authentic Pastéis de Nata yourself.

Portugal Ericeira Lisbon Back in Portugal again, this time not staying in Lisbon city center. Just taking a turn to places I haven't been before, like Ericeira. This place is rated as the world's second best surfing reserve and also the venue for many world-class surfing competitions. I've always wanted to try surfing, and since I plan to stay in Portugal for a while, the prices here are much cheaper than in China. I can also participate in a surfing camp experience while I'm here. This is also a good place to watch the sunset, but you have to choose the right day. Because of the beautiful purple sunset yesterday, I decided to come to the seaside today to enjoy the sea breeze, watch the sunset, and have some dessert. However, the weather didn't cooperate. An hour ago, it was clear and sunny, but when the sunset came, the sky was covered with clouds. Although the scene of the sun shining through the clouds and casting a beam of light on the sea was not bad, it was still a bit regretful not to see the expected purple sunset.

The history of the small village can be traced back to 1920. Jose Franco, a bricklayer, created this mini village to record his childhood memories and showcase the local way of life. The replica of living spaces is displayed here. There are two playgrounds designed for children in the village. Each small house is filled with miniature representations of local residents' lives, from the music classroom to the grocery store, from the small farm to the bakery, from the windmill to the defensive castle.
