Mainz boasts a very famous brewery: Eisgrub Braeu. I had such a wonderful experience dining and drinking beer there that I highly recommend it to everyone. Mainz is a quiet city, so it's not particularly special, but the beer at this brewery was truly special. I ordered a pork loin steak with stout sauce, a non-alcoholic beer, and the brewery's special stout. At €25.50, it was a great value. Since I'm not a big drinker, I chose the 0.2l option. You can order small beers and non-alcoholic beer, making it perfect for those who don't drink but still want to enjoy German beer. The non-alcoholic beer is incredibly rich and refreshing, making it a great choice for those who enjoy a German beer. The stout, brewed on-site, is also fantastic. It's perfectly nutty and bitter, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The pork steak I ordered for dinner was also excellent. It paired perfectly with the stout sauce. I was able to watch the beer-making process, and the staff were pleasant and friendly, making it a truly memorable experience. I'd love to return to Mainz just to visit this brewery. If you like old towns, then you may add Mainz to your itinerary. Mainz is located at the beach of Rhune river just where Rhine divides to Rhine and Main river (leading to Frankfurt). The town has a population of 200 000 people and it’s considered an important center of German wine. The old town is small but looks nice with a lot of beautiful fountains and statues. You could visit Mainz during the same day with the nearby Wiesbaden. Both are small towns and visiting them could be possible during one. I recommend to leave Wiesbaden to the evening. Mainz was founded in the ancient Roman period in 13 BC, became the seat of the Archbishop in the Middle Ages, gained free city status in 1244, established Mainz University in 1477, and founded the Mainz Republic, Germany's first democratic regime, in 1793. I specifically set aside half a day for a city walk, and naturally, no one visiting Mainz would miss the old town's world-famous landmark—Mainz Cathedral of St. Martin. The cathedral was commissioned by Archbishop Willigis in 975, but it suffered a fire on the very first day of its inauguration in 1009 and was damaged by fire again in 1081. The church is built of red sandstone. While it began in the Romanesque style, Gothic elements were gradually added during later repairs, and the octagonal tower was redesigned and built in 1879, resulting in the current architecture that blends both styles. As the seat of the first of the seven Prince-Electors in the imperial electoral system, the successive archbishops often served as imperial regents in the medieval Holy Roman Empire.
