#mediterraneanfood When people ask me where to go for the best pasta in #italy , I don’t even hesitate. Emilia-Romagna is the answer. This northern Italian region isn’t just the birthplace of some of the world’s most iconic dishes, it is the soul of Italian cuisine itself. Think Parmigiano Reggiano, handmade tortellini, silky tagliatelle al ragù, and delicate sheets of pasta so thin you can almost see through them. During my last trip to Italy, I decided to dedicate a few days entirely to exploring Emilia-Romagna’s culinary treasures. Instead of renting a car this time, I booked my trains with #tripcom , which made hopping from one city to the next incredibly easy. This region is often called the “food valley” of Italy for a reason. Bologna, Modena, and Parma form a triangle where pasta and cheese are practically a religion. In Parma, I toured dairies where wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano are aged for years until they reach nutty, crystalline perfection. Watching cheesemakers crack open a wheel felt like witnessing a sacred ritual. That same cheese, shaved over fresh tagliolini with butter, was a revelation. In Modena, balsamic vinegar aged for decades in wooden barrels added a surprising depth to simple pasta dishes. Even a drizzle on creamy risotto tasted divine. And in Bologna, the city that invented tagliatelle al ragù (never call it “spaghetti bolognese” here!). Booking my train tickets with Trip.com was a game changer. Instead of navigating multiple Italian websites or queuing at stations, I secured all my tickets in advance on my phone. From Bologna to Parma to Modena, everything was seamless. And because Trip.com also shows hotel options, I managed to book cozy stays right near the train stations to make my foodie adventure even smoother.

💞Reasons to Recommend: If you’re looking for a cozy Italian town beyond Bologna, Modena is a perfect choice. Just a 25-minute train ride away, this city offers a mix of history, culture, and gastronomy. I visited Modena for a day in early February and was captivated by its stunning Modena Cathedral. Car enthusiasts will appreciate Modena’s connection to Ferrari. Don’t forget to visit the Enzo Ferrari Museum— a must see for any car lovers! Modena is definitely a city that will surprise you! #historicallandmarks #italy #modena #emiliaromagna #localguides #travelinspiration #travelphotography

#外游 This time I came to Modena, Italy ~ Luciano Pavarotti, one of the world's three most famous tenors, was born and lived in Modena. I visited his former residence in the suburbs of Modena, which is now preserved in the same way as when he lived there and is open to the public as a museum. Visitors can visit the hall, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom of his former home, where some of Pavarotti's performance costumes, awards, photos, posters, letters, etc. are displayed. Learn more about his past life. 📍Casa Museo Luciano Pavarotti Address: Stradello Nava 6, 41126 Modena #ItalianTravel #EuropeanTravel #Overseas

#Overseas Travel If you are a cheese fan, you may want to visit a cheese factory when you visit Italy to learn how the "world-class" Italian cheese Parmigiano Reggiano is made. This time I visited the cheese factory Caseificio Sociale Pelloni in Modena. The person in charge explained the manufacturing process very carefully. At the end of the guided tour, there is a food tasting session and a shop selling various types of cheese, dairy products and special local ingredients. The unique, crunchy and rich texture of Parmigiano Reggiano has really charmed many cheese lovers. Appreciate 🇮🇹 Italians' persistence in making high-quality ingredients, which makes us all very happy! #ItalianTravel #EuropeanTravel #OverseasTravel

This garden is located in the old town of Modena, in Northen Italy 📍 It was the garden of the Ducal Palace that today is the military academy. The garden has a history of more than 500 years 😮 It has three gates from where you can access and visit for free. There are opening and closing time depending on the season. It hosts a pond, a botanical garden and a cafe. In the park there is also a beautiful building called Palazzina Vigarani 😍 At this time of the year it becomes a graceful environment for weekend picnics and walks ⛲️ It's great also for children because there is a playground. We enjoyed seeing the tulips blooming but unfortunately the botanical garden was closed 🙄

If Bologna is a deep, heavy, brown old city, Modena is a bright and gentle color utopia💛 A small city you can walk across in 30 minutes, it looks quiet and soft on the outside, but its heritage is truly stunning. Ferrari and Lamborghini were born here, and it is also home to a legendary Michelin-starred restaurant that has twice topped the global rankings. 🚞Transportation Guide: Purchase intercity train tickets to Modena at the Bologna train station. 🏘️City Impression | A Morandi-esque Town 🔸Unlike the vast brown buildings of Bologna, Modena's architectural tones are much brighter. 🔸The streets are filled with light yellow and orange-pink walls, accented with creamy white, low-saturation light blue, and pale purple. 🔸When sunlight hits the walls, the soft atmosphere is fully realized, making it very comfortable to stroll through the streets. ⛪Piazza Grande | Encountering a Gradient Sunset 🔸Modena Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most classic examples of medieval Romanesque architecture in Italy. 🔸Dusk is the most beautiful time in the square, as sunlight slowly covers the top of the cathedral, with colors transitioning from warm yellow to orange, and finally fading into a soft pink. 🔸Many people set up stalls in the middle of the square. Sitting in a square cafe for a break is very pleasant. 🍽️Osteria Francescana | Michelin Dinner 🔸Tucked away in a small alley, this restaurant with a low-key entrance has won three Michelin stars, twice taken the title of World's Best Restaurant, and was named "Best of the Best." 🔸The signature dessert, "Oops! I Dropped the Lemon Tart," was inspired by a real-life kitchen mishap. Served on a plate with a cracked design, it is full of character and is the restaurant's iconic dish. ▫️Tips: The restaurant opens reservations every Monday. It is recommended to book online 3 months in advance, as seats are very limited. A small city that has nurtured top-tier supercars and world-class cuisine—the contrast is striking. A short half-day stay, World Heritage twilight, and a feast for the palate—this is the unique romance of Modena.

When we arranged a home swap with a family in Bologna this summer, we didn’t know much about the city. But I’d always wanted to visit Italy, and Bologna is a university city that is well situated between other Italian cities. It was our home base as we explored Florence, Venice, Modena, and Ferrara. We also fell in love with Bologna’s arcades, deep reds, and slow-paced streets, not to mention its incredible public library.

We had a fantastic tour experience away from Florence's city center. Veronica guided us through the hills surrounding Florence in a golf cart, sharing insights about the history of Medici rule, the local architecture, and famous artists like Michelangelo and Donatello. The tour included delightful stops for wine, salami with bread, and a gelato treat. The scenic views of Florence from the hills provided incredible photo opportunities. We’re so happy we chose to do this tour!

My partner and I recently returned from a stay at the guest house "Casa Barabaru" on Thinadhoo Island in the Vaavu Atoll. We’ve visited the Maldives five times before, always opting for resorts with a simple setup and beautiful reefs, as we enjoy snorkeling. This time, we decided to try a guest house and chose Casa Barabaru after reading numerous reviews and contacting its Italian office conveniently located in our city, Modena. We were truly impressed by the quality of the experience. Mongi (the Maldivian owner who lived in Italy), Laura (the administrative manager), and the entire staff spoke Italian and ran the place with a warm, family-style approach, treating guests like friends. The rooms are not luxurious but spacious, cleaned twice daily, and very comfortable. The restaurant, set up directly on the sand, provides a buffet breakfast in the morning, while lunch includes a first course, main course, fruit, and coffee. Dinner, the main meal, usually features starters, a first and second course, fruit, and coffee. Fish is almost always part of the menu, which would be great for seafood lovers. Unfortunately, as I’m not a fan of fish, the chef kindly prepared alternatives for me, even during excursions. On inhabited islands alcohol isn’t served, but there’s plenty of water and Coca-Cola available. We noticed many people walking by stopped to chat upon hearing Italian, and Mongi often offered coffee or dinner to them. Unsurprisingly, some guests from other establishments became regulars at Casa Barabaru, not only for the warm interactions but also for the excursions. Many even inquired about staying there next year. Casa Barabaru has a high number of returning guests, which speaks volumes about its charm. Thinadhoo has several guest houses, though none seem to offer the same friendly, simplistic, and authentic Maldivian atmosphere found at Casa Barabaru. Unfortunately, our vacation didn’t go completely smoothly as both my partner and I were sick with the flu, likely contracted during the flight. Still, despite not being able to join all the planned excursions, we thoroughly enjoyed the stay, thanks to the heartfelt care of the staff. A big thank you to the whole team at Casa Barabaru!

Just when you think Italy can’t surprise you anymore… Another camera roll starts filling up. ✨ Milan brings a completely different vibe—fashion streets, elegant cafés, rooftop aperitivos, luxury shopping, and the breathtaking Duomo rising above the city. 🍝 Bologna quietly steals your heart with incredible food, medieval towers, endless porticoes, and some of the most authentic local life in Italy. 🧀 Modena delivers fast cars, slow food, and some of Italy’s greatest culinary treasures—from balsamic vinegar to Parmigiano Reggiano. And naturally… your camera roll starts behaving exactly as expected. 😂 Taking 47 photos of the Duomo from slightly different angles. 😂 Saying you’ll “just browse” in Milan and somehow leaving with shopping bags. 😂 Realizing every restaurant in Bologna serves the best pasta you’ve ever had. 😂 Buying authentic balsamic vinegar in Modena and immediately worrying about luggage weight limits. Northern Italy has a habit of making you extend your trip. And somehow, every meal ends with the sentence: “This might be the best thing I’ve eaten in Italy.” 💬 Which city from Part 3 gets your vote?

Modena is Italy’s Motor Valley heart, an exotic car paradise where every petrolhead’s wildest fantasies collide with tangy balsamic vinegar stalls. Start downtown at Museo Enzo Ferrari, a sleek modern hall stuffed with championship F1 cars and vintage road horses; you’ll catch grown adults whispering to 1950s race machines like old pals. A short drive out hits Maserati’s glass factory, home to curvaceous grand tourers born from the town’s racing bloodline. Day trips unlock even bigger thrills: Ferrari’s Maranello museum, Lamborghini’s flashy Sant’Agata campus (spawned from Ferruccio’s petty grudge against Enzo) and Pagani’s hypercar atelier, where carbon-fibre Huayras get hand-finished like high-fashion couture. Local roads teem with test-driving supercars overtaking slow food delivery vans. The only downside? You’ll blow half your budget on museum tickets and branded merch, then get side-tracked sampling aged vinegar mid-sports-car pilgrimage. Every street reeks of engine oil and Parmigiano-Reggiano, blending fast speed and slow Italian comfort—truly heaven for anyone who geeks out over horsepower, even if your non-car travel buddy rolls their eyes nonstop. #italy #modena #enzo #ferrari #pagani #lamborghini #museum

The city of lords, the treasure town of Lucca The history of Lucca dates back to 180 BC, founded by the Etruscan Etruscans, today Lucca, although just a small city, was once also an independent republic for over five hundred years! As early as the 12th century, Lucca became an autonomous city-state due to the developed silk trade, and established an independent republic in 1314! The Walls of Lucca (Fig. 15). It is the grandest city wall in Italy! Built in the 16th century, it took 150 years to build the city wall is 12 meters high, 4.2 kilometers long, and 10 spade-shaped fortresses. What's more special is that the city wall is full of trees, which is like a forested avenue! The Tower of Guineve (Fig. 1-5). There are actually seven oak trees planted on the 45-meter-high Torre Guinigi tower, and the oak tree represents power, the owner of the tower, Paolo Guinigi, who ruled Lucca for thirty years, it is said that after his death, the leaves on the tree fell off. Climb the Torre Guinigi tower and you can overlook the entire city of Lucca. The layers of red roofs are scattered high and low, and the ancient houses and simple countryside blend into one. It feels like the best state of human civilization and natural heaven and earth! Lucca Cathedral (Figure 6-11). It was built in the 8th century and expanded in the 11th century under the auspices of Bishop Anselmo de Baggio... The exterior facade is typical of Toscana characteristic Romanesque architecture, exquisite lace-like three-story arcade, neat, harmonious and graceful, and a closer look at each column and carefully decorated in color and carving, each one is different! Compared to the "magnificence" of Modena Cathedral and the "sublime" closer to later Gothic, the "elegantness" of Lucca Cathedral is closer to the later Renaissance style! The porch reliefs are also wonderful, with San Martino's life and the zodiac on both sides of the door, and a row of holy apostles on the lintel, the relief on the left door arch is the scene of the birth and crucifixion of Christ... The interior of the church was rebuilt in the 14th-15th centuries, the arcade decoration on the two side corridors has shown a very delicate Gothic style, coupled with the light change of stained glass, gradually become light and transparent The Volto Santo Jesus Crucifixion wood sculpture in the church's collection is from the 8th-9th centuries, said to be the object of pilgrimage, although the posture is a bit stiff, but the face exudes a mysterious sorrow... The fresco on the top of the semicircular arch of the altar is the "Trinity Surrounded by Saints" painted by Giovanni Coli and Filippo Gherardi in 1678, typical of the Renaissance style... There is a beautiful sculpture in the small hall next to it! A marble mausoleum carved by Siena master Jacppo delle Quercia in 1407 for Ilaria del Carretto, wife of Paolo Guinigi, the owner of the tree-planted tower! This beautiful lady was only 24 years old when she died, and the entire sculpture still exudes lifelike skin shine and elegant temperament, it feels like she is just sleeping! Palace of Mansi (Figs. 16-17). A property purchased by the Mansi family in 1616, the luxurious Baroque decor once again proves the former glory of Lucca City... The Palace's most luxurious music hall, the Music Hall, was designed for the wedding of Carlo Mansi and Eleonora Pepoli in 1689. It features wet murals drawn by Gian Gioseffo del Sole... The splendid neoclassical style bedroom was used for weddings that year...
