Known as one of the most beautiful villages in the world, Hallstatt is located in Upper Austria and welcomes tens of thousands of visitors every day. During peak hours, it can get extremely crowded. If you’re traveling independently, the tips above may come in handy: Tip 1: If you’re traveling from Vienna by train/bus, aside from one direct train, most routes require two to three transfers, and the fare is about 40–50 euros per person. If you’re traveling in a group of three or more, driving may be a good option. Tip 2: To avoid the crowds, consider staying overnight. The village is much quieter in the early morning or at dusk, which makes the experience much better. Hotels in Obertraun, across the lake from Hallstatt, are reasonably priced and also offer parking. Tip 3: Don’t miss Hallstatt’s salt mine attraction! The ticket includes not only admission, but also the cable car up and down the mountain and access to the mountaintop viewing platform. No need to deliberately find the perfect shot; just press the shutter, and the scene is already romantic enough to make you want to look back again and again. 🚶‍♀️ In the winter town, even time slows down Hallstatt is small, and the streets are not crowded. Along the way, the green slopes and deep blue lake create a dreamlike scene. After about 35 minutes, the train arrives at the summit station at an altitude of 1,732 meters. 🚂 What you must do at this moment is to go to the terrace of Austria’s oldest mountain-top hotel, Schafbergspitze, or the café at Himmelspforte mountain lodge, order a cup of coffee or a pastry, and immerse yourself fully in the lake and mountain scenery. With its grand Gothic-style interior, you’ll find yourself thinking, "Ah, this is the true Austrian vibe!" The atmosphere is simply stunning. A Place Frequented by Historical Figures Café Central isn’t just a tourist attraction; it’s also famous for being a favorite spot of historical figures like Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud, and Leon Trotsky. Waiting in Line vs. Online Reservations Given its popularity, the wait time can be quite long. I personally waited over 40 minutes… 😭 Standing outside the café, I was silently pleading, "Please, people ahead of me, leave quickly!" But everyone seemed to want to linger and enjoy the ambiance. Thankfully, you can make online reservations via Google Maps, so if you’re planning a visit, I highly recommend booking in advance! Austrian Breakfast (€14.50) Croissant + Bread + Butter + Raspberry Jam + Tea I ordered the Austrian breakfast, and to my surprise, the raspberry jam was absolutely delicious. When I spread it on the bread, I thought, "Wow, this is sexy food!" The croissant was crispy yet soft, making it a perfect light breakfast. Since I don’t drink coffee, I paired it with orange juice, which turned out to be a great combination. Cake (€6.90) Since I was already there, I decided to try a cake as well. Honestly, it was a bit underwhelming—too sweet for my taste. (Apparently, Café Central is more famous for its coffee and ambiance rather than its desserts.) You usually travel to Vienna a lot〰️ You can go there on a day trip from Vienna☺️ Since it's far, I recommend taking a tour like me if you don't have time, and if you have time, I recommend staying in Halls for one nightㅠ It was such a crazy town that I wanted to stay there for a whole day because it was so pretty. If you don't go, you'll regret it a million times over❗️ 📍Salzburg Salzburg, Mozart's hometown, has the Mirabell Garden and beautiful signs from the movie Sound of Music, and it's fun to look at the pretty signs of the stores just by walking along the luxury street. I went in winter and it was covered in snow, but if you go in other seasons, you can also see the beautiful gardens🫶🏻 📍Hallstatt This place, which was the actual motif of Frozen, is so beautiful that you'd think it would be a fairytale lake town🫧 The road there was pretty, but when I arrived, I kept exclaiming "Wow..." and wandered around🥹 I went on a tour departing from Vienna It took 6 hours round trip, but I never regretted it or had a hard time!
