I went to see the Naruto Strait whirlpools 🌀 This time, I enjoyed a double perspective: from the 'Uzu no Michi' (walking directly above) and from a sightseeing boat (right at sea level) ◎ The conclusion? Both were completely different and absolutely worth it 💯 📍 Uzu no Michi A walkway directly under the Onaruto Bridge, where the floor is made of glass, allowing you to see the swirling whirlpools right below…! The bridge's structure is also stunning, making it a must-visit spot for photography enthusiasts. 📍 Boat (Uzushio-go) The whirlpools seen from right at sea level are overwhelmingly powerful 😳 I recommend going during times when the whirlpools are at their largest! I went to the Naruto City Summer Fireworks Festival held in Naruto, Tokushima Prefecture! It was my first time to go to a fireworks festival held on the riverbed, and I was overwhelmed by how close it was 🤍 It was so big and beautiful ✨ The food stalls were lined up in front of the residential area, giving it a local feel, and there weren't as many people there compared to the city, so I was able to calmly watch the fireworks! 🍹 7,000 fireworks were set off over the course of an hour, and I was able to enjoy them to my heart's content! The first place I visited on my trip to Shikoku was the roadside station Kurukuru Naruto! I had a tuna-filled seafood bowl for lunch, and it was so delicious that my jaw dropped! If you are driving thru the Kobe/ Awaji/ Shikoku area, I would highly recommend making a visit to the Uzunomichi Observatory and Walkway. The observatory is part of the Naruto Bridge connecting the Awaji Island and Tokushima Prefecture in Shikoku. The whirlpool current changes by the hour each day and is the strongest during full moon and new moon. You can go on to the website for the Uzunomichi and it will show the best day and hour for viewing. If you drive, it is best to park at the observatory parking lot which costs ¥500 per day. You can then follow the sign and walk 10 minutes to the bridge observatory entrance to buy tickets . The fee for adult is ¥510, while primary / high school students costs 260/410 yen respectively. We visited on a day of “medium “ tide , but at the best hour, and we thought it was quite amazing already. I was told that the strongest whirlpool is during spring and fall, so best to plan your trip accordingly. This is a must see while traveling in the Kansai region of Japan! The "Naruto Whirlpool" is a whirlpool landscape that appears on the Naruto Strait in Japan. This is the place with the fastest currents in Japan. When the fast current comes into contact with the slower-flowing seawater around it, a whirlpool is easily formed. When the whirlpool is at its largest, its diameter can exceed 20 meters. It is also one of the three largest whirlpools in the world! You can take a sightseeing boat to watch it up close from the sea, or you can look down directly from about 45 meters above it on the "Whirlpool Road". We chose the latter, which seems to give us a clearer view! The best time to view the tides is in spring and autumn, but the time for viewing the tides is different every day. The best viewing period is about 1.5 hours before and after the high and low tides twice a day, when you can see relatively large whirlpools! Although we did not arrive at the best time for viewing, we could not see any big whirlpools, only waves of small whirlpools. After admiring them for a while, we found that the whirlpools were of different sizes and formed very quickly, and then disappeared very quickly. They were particularly obvious when a boat passed by. Highlights: The German House was built as a gesture of goodwill and houses an excellent museum on the lives of the Bando Camp prisoners. It is built on the site of a relocation camp where German prisoners of WWI lived for three years. A variety of models and photographs are on display with descriptions in Japanese, German and English.
