Narva, Estonia - the European city closest to the Russian border
The Estonian city of Narva - the European city closest to the Russian border. There is usually only one reason to go: the one-month Russian visa expires, and you have to leave the country for a day, then return to Russia to enjoy another 14 days of visa-free travel to continue your unfinished journey (this is because the airfare from St. Petersburg to Belarus is much cheaper than from European cities, so it is worth taking a detour).
Dragging a suitcase that was more tired than me, the streets were sparsely populated. It was rare to see residents, so I just took some photos. It was difficult to find food, but fortunately the Narva Hotel in the city center was easy to find. The Aleksandri Suurkiriku Museum along the way was considered the largest attraction in the area. I walked toward the river and returned to the Youyi Border Bridge that I had passed earlier. On one side was the Narva Museum, and on the other side of the Russian border was the Ivangorod Fortress. Each side had its national flag hanging, fluttering in the air.
Castle Night Magic✨

Standing in front of the Ivangorod Fortress (Russia) while being in Narva (Estonia) is one of the coolest things you can do at the most eastern point of my journey for Christmas!! 🥰❤️ It was so incredibly awesome just simply walking along the river, going up to the Five-Kroon Viewing Platform to see both the Ivangorod Fortress and Narva Castle, and wandering around the beautiful lakeside 🤗😊.
The Christmas market in Narva’s Old Town square glows with hundreds of twinkling lights, where you can sip hot glögg spiced with Estonian vodka while browsing handmade wool mittens and wooden ornaments under a light dusting of snow 🎄☕. Just a short walk away, Narva Castle itself turns into a magical winter fortress, its courtyard hosting carol singers in medieval costumes and a towering Christmas tree that reflects beautifully on the frozen Narva River at night ✨🏰.

Estonia. Narva.
My journey to Narva left me with vivid impressions and a profound sense of the history and beauty of this city. The city amazed me with its unique architecture, blending ancient fortifications with modern buildings. The Narva Castle, a powerful structure from the 18th century, stood out the most, still preserving its majestic atmosphere. Walking through the old town revealed narrow streets, cozy squares, and colorful houses with historic facades. At the center of attention was the Narva Cathedral, whose elegant style and interior decor evoked a sense of spiritual heritage. Equally impressive was the panorama of the Narva River, which added a special charm to the place. The city exudes harmony between historical landmarks and natural beauty. The architecture of Narva captivates with its balance and richness of details, creating a feeling of immersion in the past. Visiting Narva was a true discovery for me: a city with a rich history, picturesque nature, and a unique spirit.
