Constructed in 1851, this lighthouse holds the distinction of being the first built in Portugal. It was initially erected on a 34-meter cylindrical tower, which was later extended by 12 meters in 1922. Due to environmental wear, significant restoration occurred in 1929 to stabilize the oscillating structure. During World War I, it was temporarily deactivated from 1916 to 1919. Visit the beautiful and friendly city of Olhão, where you can find the mix of tradition, character, and modern. Highlights, visit the traditional markets building, fish market and fruit and veg market, worth a visit. The centre has nice typical and flower decorated streets, with traditional and modern shops. The city is full of good restaurants, well decorated, friendly and with a variety of different food offers, you definitely can eat very well in Olhão, seafood is a must. Quick access from Faro airport, about 20 min by car.

A very nice stay at Pure Concept Hotel. Very well located, in the centre, 10 minutes from the water front, and also 10 minutes to the train station. A highlight is the staff, very professional and the most friendly and helpful team. The hotel is simple but very cosy, nicely decorated and comfortable. A lounge area with a bar and swimming pool on the rooftop is great, nice and calm with music, and it is perfect to enjoy the beautiful sea view.

Restaurant Petiscais - Olhão Ambience - very nice, rustic, welcoming Highlights - Food Rating - Very good. Beautiful food, variety of offer and very well done. Friendly and good service. The space was a bit cold, but otherwise, it was top. Totally recommend the Prawn Linguinni with coconut sauce, I will repeat.

Restaurant Há do Amador in Olhão, un excellent typical local restaurant. Excellent food, I had sea bass, it was so tasty, and could not be more fresh. The dessert was also beautiful, a traditional Three flavour tart. It is busy, but the staff is great and totally worth a bit of wait.

I have been many times to this amazing Seafood restaurant in Algarve, Portugal. 🇵🇹 “Restaurante O Horta” is located in Olhão city and it’s very special. The prices are very affordable and the food is incredible tasty. They always use very fresh fish. It’s my number #1 recommendation in Algarve. The service is also very good. Please try their lobster.
